Apocalypse Queen: My Space, My Rules Chapter 56: Smell of a Jerk
Mariella wasn't taking any chances. She fired a few more shots to make sure he was dead.
She stepped forward and kicked the body hard, letting out a cold snort. "Go on, roll some more. What, do you think you're a crocodile? Keep rolling!"
Once she was certain he was finished, she stored the corpse in her storage space.
She turned and stored the black SUV with the blown tire as well, then took Lucky with her into the storage space.
...
Lucky tore around the storage space like it was a brand new playground, sprinting through the small garden one moment and dashing into the two-story villa the next, sniffing everything in sight, endlessly curious.
Mariella let the dog run wild in its new territory while she crouched down and searched the assassin's body carefully.
She found two more compact pistols, a small grenade, three magazines, and a phone.
Grabbing the assassin's finger, she unlocked the phone with fingerprint recognition just as she expected.
She checked his apps and messages and quickly pieced together his identity.
So he was a well-known name on the world assassin rankings, drawn in by Harvey's ten-million-dollar bounty to come to Liraelith and kill her.
Heh, Harvey really spared no expense trying to get rid of me. Looks like he's completely losing it.
Mariella slipped the phone into her pocket, then searched the black SUV.
From the trunk, she pulled out an AK, a Gatling gun, a sniper rifle, and 200 rounds of each of three different types of ammunition.
No wonder he was a pro hitman. His gear was well-stocked.
Now that she finally had firearms, her confidence grew.
...
After stripping everything of value, Mariella got back into the pickup with Lucky and left the storage space.
She continued driving, but before long, the road ahead was completely submerged.
After confirming all the surveillance in the area had been destroyed, she got out and shot out the streetlights.
She stored the truck, then pulled out a small motorboat and boarded it with Lucky.
The boat had an enclosed cabin that could fit one driver and two passengers. In this kind of storm, it was far more comfortable than an inflatable raft.
Inside the cabin, Mariella started the engine and opened the navigation app on her phone.
Putting on her night vision goggles, she steered toward the Graham Group office tower.
...
The motorboat cut through the rain across the dark water, like it was sailing through an endless ocean. But instead of open sea, it was surrounded by towering buildings, creating a strange, eerie sense of dissonance.
Debris floated everywhere, including the bodies of people and animals.
Mariella pulled the assassin's body from her storage space and tossed it into the water.
There were already countless nameless corpses out there. One more didn't matter.
After about half an hour, the boat reached the Graham Group skyscraper.
The floodwaters had risen to the fifth floor, but a few scattered lights were still visible, likely from security guards and employees trapped inside.
Mariella put on a mask, took out a glass breaker from her storage space, and smashed a window on the fifth floor, letting Lucky jump in first.
The storm masked the noise completely. No one noticed a thing.
She climbed in after him, then turned and stored the motorboat.
Entering through the fifth floor, she moved through the building with ease and quickly found the security control room.
As expected, it was unmanned. She walked in and destroyed the main surveillance system.
Now, she could act without holding back.
...
With Lucky, Mariella took the emergency stairwell up to the 21st floor.
She went to the secretary's office first to grab the key, then smoothly unlocked the CEO's office.
Inside, she didn't bother with a flashlight. With night vision, everything was perfectly clear.
She had Lucky sniff Harvey's chair and the items he frequently used, so he could memorize the scent.
Lucky bared his teeth, letting out a low, angry growl.
Of course, he recognized the scent: the smell of a jerk.
Mariella patted his head. "Find every place that smells like this."
Following the command, Lucky quickly located Harvey's dressing room.
Mariella patted his head again. "Good. Keep going."
Lucky moved to the wardrobe and started scratching at the cabinet door.
Mariella opened it. Inside were several of Harvey's spare outfits.
"Keep looking. Check somewhere else."
But Lucky refused to leave. He squeezed inside the wardrobe and kept clawing at the inner wall.
Mariella sensed something off and knocked lightly against the panel. It was hollow.
Her eyes lit up. She took out a flashlight and examined it carefully, testing each hook one by one.
On the third hook, it finally turned.
As it rotated, the back panel slowly opened, revealing a hidden door embedded in the wall.
Mariella pushed it open and found exactly what she expected. Two hidden rooms.
The outer room held five large safes, most likely filled with gold bars or cash.
