Apocalypse Queen: My Space, My Rules Chapter 15: Handle Them
Harvey didn't want to lose face in front of the Shepherds. His proposal to break off the engagement with Mariella was just another attempt to force her into making concessions.
He still believed that everything Mariella was doing was just to get his attention. In his mind, she was simply jealous, trying to compete with Roxanna.
He scoffed, thinking she wasn't even worthy of being jealous over Roxanna.
But he hadn't expected that when he suggested breaking off the engagement, Mariella would respond without hesitation with just one word, "Sure!"
Harvey's face instantly darkened.
Roxanna, still looking weak in bed, asked worriedly, "Is Mariella still mad at you?"
Harvey put away his phone and said casually, "I've already hired private investigators to track her down. Once we have her location, I'll send a few people to grab her. From then on, she'll be your personal blood bank and backup organ supply."
A glint of excitement flashed in Roxanna's watery eyes, but she said, "Isn't that a bit cruel to her?"
"It doesn't matter. I've already broken off the engagement. This is her only use!" Harvey gritted his teeth and spoke with venom.
Kingston, bundled up like a mummy, sat on the nearby couch and finally couldn't hold back. "Mariella is good at fighting. She can take on a mastiff by herself. Harvey, you'll need to send more highly skilled bodyguards to subdue her."
But Harvey didn't take it seriously. "Last time, it was Jennifer messing things up that let her escape. This time, she won't even get a chance to call the police. Let's see what she can do!"
Just then, the private investigator called.
Harvey smirked. "We've got news."
He deliberately put it on speaker.
"Mr. Graham, we've located Mariella. This morning at Celestine Ridge, she fought three criminals single-handedly at the kindergarten, injuring all three. The police even praised her. Among the children she saved was the daughter of your family doctor, Matthew, and they invited her to lunch afterward."
Harvey was stunned. "Fought three by herself?"
Kingston muttered, "I told you she could fight, but you wouldn't believe me."
Harvey scowled and ordered, "Keep a close eye on her. Find out where she's staying tonight!"
Roxanna's eyes flicked as she thought. Once Harvey hung up, she whispered, "Matthew is your family doctor. Mariella saved his daughter. Is she trying to win him over?"
Her words made Harvey immediately wary.
After thinking it over, he decided, "Give Matthew a few days off. Once my people have Mariella under control, I'll decide whether to fire him."
...
After filling her stomach, Mariella went back to the department store to continue her shopping spree.
This time, she bought all kinds of skincare products, such as shampoos, body washes, handmade soaps, facial cleansers, bars of soap, laundry detergents, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and sanitary pads of various brands and types. She also stocked up on serums, lotions, face creams, night creams, hand creams, luxury facial masks, and more.
She bought so much that she tipped the store clerks as usual and had them carry everything to her car.
Closing the windows, she was about to store all the items in her storage space.
Habitually cautious, she glanced in the rearview mirror and caught a fleeting shadow.
With her previous experience of being tracked and ambushed, she immediately suspected what might be happening.
It looked like Harvey hadn't given up. Even after dragging Jennifer into it, he still wouldn't stop.
Mariella sneered and drove out of the underground parking lot.
Sure enough, a van was tailing her.
She pretended not to notice and drove straight to the club.
Once she parked, she called Chandler. "Some thugs are following me—they're up to no good. Get the guys ready. Lock the doors and deal with them."
...
Mariella entered the closed-down club. The shady figures followed her inside. Seeing the deserted interior, they immediately tried to make their move.
But the moment they reached to cover her mouth, a dozen bodyguards burst from all directions and slammed them to the ground, pounding them mercilessly.
The new bodyguards were eager to prove themselves, so they were especially ruthless.
The attackers were beaten badly, crying and screaming for mercy.
Only then did Mariella wave her bodyguards off.
"Who sent you?" she asked.
The beaten men were practically knocked out of their senses. They tried to keep their mouths shut, but then a dog suddenly lunged out, scaring them into screaming.
The vicious dog bared its teeth under the lights, as if ready to rip them apart.
The men immediately caved. "It... it was Mr. Graham! He sent us!"
...
When the police arrived, Donald was with them.
His eyes widened in surprise. "It's you again?!"
Mariella smiled brightly. "Seems like we're destined to keep meeting."
Donald was speechless.
She noted his badge number—653973. Meeting three times in a row was indeed fate.
Chandler provided surveillance footage proving that these men had been following and attempting to kidnap Mariella.
The on-duty officer looked at the dozen-plus bodyguards and asked skeptically, "Who are you all, and what are you doing here?"
