Apocalypse Queen: My Space, My Rules Chapter 44: Sticking Her Nose Into Everything
Otherwise, those four coal trucks during the day would've caused quite a stir.
Celestine Ridge sat on high ground, about a 15-minute drive from the nearest large supermarket.
That supermarket was on roughly the same elevation as the city center, so if flooding hit, it wouldn't escape either.
Racing against the coming disaster, Mariella was stocking up every second she could.
The money in her account had to be spent. Otherwise, it would be nothing but useless numbers later.
She had Chandler and Number One split up for purchases, while she went back to the appliance section and bought 20 large deep freezers, 20 large refrigeration units, and 20 car refrigerators.
Luckily, the villa was big enough to hold all these massive appliances.
Fresh food needed freezing, while vegetables, fruits, and grains needed refrigeration. And her favorite iced cola and chilled watermelon needed cold storage too.
These appliances were consumables. After the disaster, they probably wouldn't be produced anymore, so she had to stock up.
...
After a full night of effort, the entire team returned with impressive results.
Before the stores closed, every team member had successfully spent their 20 thousand, converting it into food, winter clothing, and daily necessities.
The freezers and refrigerators Mariella ordered wouldn't arrive until the next morning.
Fortunately, the villa still had the 20 large freezers and 20 refrigerators she had previously stockpiled at the club, which could be used for now.
All the newly purchased supplies were sorted into the freezers and refrigerators, labeled, and recorded with inventory counts.
In an apocalyptic world, food was the most important resource. It had to be tracked at all times.
By the time everything was done, it was nearly midnight, and everyone finally went to rest.
...
The next morning, the delivery carts arrived on time with a generous breakfast.
After eating, Mariella told Matthew and Serena to stay home and contacted the mall to rush the delivery.
After agreeing to add 1,000 dollars per unit, the mall finally promised to deliver everything by noon.
As usual, Chandler transferred another 20 thousand to each bodyguard, sending them out again to continue buying food, clothing, and daily necessities.
The bodyguards found the new task refreshing.
Spending 20 grand every day felt incredible.
Every young face was lit with excitement, as if life couldn't get any better.
But the moment they stepped out of the villa, the blast of heat nearly knocked them over.
Why is it getting hotter and hotter? At this rate, will people be roasted alive?
Inside the pickup truck, Mariella spoke through the radio. "Hang in there. Keep the AC on max and don't turn off the engine. There's enough bottled water in every car, and the car fridges have cold drinks. Stay hydrated to prevent heatstroke. Don't park in open areas. Go straight into the underground parking. Move together and finish fast!"
Each vehicle had a radio, managed by one team member.
All three cars responded in unison. "Copy that!"
Despite the brutal heat, they were all strong young men and could handle it.
The drive wasn't far, and they weren't staying outdoors, so it was manageable.
Inside the truck, Mariella received electronic reports from the inspection agencies. The air quality and well water had both passed testing. She finally felt completely at ease.
Chandler had withdrawn a million in cash from the bank and scheduled another million for the next day.
At that moment, Matthew called to say Denton had delivered another batch of emeralds.
Mariella transferred the remaining payment to Denton, then checked her account and saw she had less than a million left.
She went ahead and exchanged it all for gold bars, slipping them into her bag before storing them in her storage space.
"How much do you have left in your account?" Mariella asked.
Chandler checked his phone. "About 237 thousand..."
"I mean your personal savings," Mariella said, giving him a serious look. "No matter how much you've saved, spend all of it today."
Chandler looked at her, his expression complicated. This boss of mine is really sticking her nose into everything.
"I promised my mom I'd buy a house and get married before I turn 30. I can't just blow my marriage fund," he refused flatly.
Mariella clicked her tongue. "You don't even have a girlfriend, and you're already planning marriage? Buying a house now would just be throwing money away. Trust me, spend it while you can."
Chandler still resisted, refusing to touch his savings.
"Fine. Then withdraw it all and keep it on you," Mariella suggested, raising a brow.
Chandler fell silent for a moment before finally nodding reluctantly.
He wasn't one to argue, so he turned and headed toward the bank.
"Wait," Mariella called after him. "Tell everyone else to withdraw their money too. Whatever they can take out, take it all and keep it on them."
