Apocalypse Queen: My Space, My Rules Chapter 158: Shadows on the Water
Did Mariella really have some kind of special power?
Harvey had known her for a long time. He thought he understood her well.
If she really had an ability like that, why would she hide it from me?
He wiped the sweat off his forehead but then realized his back was already soaked with cold sweat.
Big Nose had already called Black Bear to report the strange incident with the missing boats.
Black Bear had just fallen asleep and got woken up. He sounded annoyed. "What kind of nonsense are you talking about?"
Big Nose quickly explained everything again, careful with his tone. "All the guys are here. Oh, and Mr. Graham is here too. I'll let him talk to you."
Before Harvey could slip away, Big Nose grabbed him fast and shoved the phone into his hand.
Harvey had no choice but to speak. "What Big Nose said is true. I once rented a yacht, and it disappeared for no reason. The people on board couldn't even explain how they ended up in the water."
Black Bear grew suspicious. "Stay right where you are. I'm going to check it myself."
After Mariella finished taking all the boats and watercraft, she pulled Chandler into her storage space.
While checking everything they had taken tonight, she also watched what was happening outside.
The gang of convicts had already reached the shore. They were arguing about the missing boats.
The soaked men who had crawled out of the water couldn't explain anything. One of the leaders, a buzz-cut guy, kept shining a powerful flashlight over the dark water.
Of course, he found nothing. The one responsible was already hidden inside the storage space.
Then Black Bear arrived. This time, he showed up in a new ride—a luxury armored double-decker RV.
Mariella's eyes lit up. Nice ride!
The RV was about 13 feet tall, 8 feet wide, and nearly 40 feet long. It was basically a moving mansion.
She wanted it.
But there were too many enemies right now. Just her and Chandler couldn't take them on. She had to wait for the right moment.
...
Black Bear asked the same questions again and again. He was still doubtful, but with so many people there, it was hard to believe they were all lying.
After all, none of them trusted each other enough to work together like that.
More than a dozen wooden boats were gone. The supplies on them had vanished too. Even for someone as wealthy as Black Bear, it hurt to lose that much.
He had never been the type to take a loss. And even if he did, he would make someone else pay for it.
Without warning, he grabbed Harvey by the collar and yanked him over.
"My boats don't just disappear for nothing. If we still can't take down No. 98 tonight, you'll make up the loss with your supplies."
Harvey was shocked. He didn't expect Black Bear to turn on him so fast. He wasn't ready.
He tried to brush it off. "We can talk about that. Once we take down No. 98—"
"Stop talking and get to work!" Black Bear snapped. He shoved Harvey hard, almost knocking him to the ground.
Harvey felt both angry and embarrassed, but he didn't dare lose his temper right there.
He knew the brutal convicts all had their guns pointed at him. If Black Bear gave the word, he'd be riddled with bullets in seconds.
"Fine. Let's move," he said, swallowing his anger.
Black Bear kicked Number Four again, right in the rear. He snapped, "And you—if you turn out as useless as the last bodyguard at No. 98, I'll tear you apart and feed you to the gators."
In truth, there weren't many alligators left in the flooded area. Most had already been caught and eaten by starving survivors.
When Black Bear said he'd tear someone apart, he meant it. He never made an empty promise.
Mariella overheard everything through her ability. She focused again, taking a closer look. She couldn't help but laugh under her breath.
Number Four?
Good. Just as she expected.
Inside their storage space, she and Chandler took off their diving gear. Once Black Bear and his group moved out, they stepped back outside.
Earlier, they had climbed onto the shore before slipping into the storage space. So when they came out, their clothes and shoes were still completely dry.
Dressed in black tactical gear, wearing night vision goggles, and holding AK rifles, they quietly followed behind the group.
Black Bear had already climbed into his luxury RV, busy enjoying himself with the women inside.
The RV was bulletproof, which made it hard for Mariella to take him out.
So she shifted her focus to Harvey.
But Harvey was cautious. He stayed in the middle of the group, surrounded by others, and wore a ballistic helmet.
Mariella could tell from the shape under his shirt that he was also wearing a bulletproof vest.
Figures. He was still as careful as ever, scared of dying.
...
Late at night, No. 98 Villa was quiet.
A shadowy figure gently pushed open a bedroom door, stepped out on tiptoe, and made its way downstairs from the second floor.
