Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 100

Wren

A loud burp leaves Quincy's mouth as she pats her tummy.

"Good?" I laugh.

"Perfect. Thank you," she says. "It was just what the baby needed."

She relaxes in her seat, breathing through her lips. Her red hair is up in a bun, her skin is glowing but you can't mistake the 'mom' look.

"You look beautiful," I tell her.

She snorts. "I don't feel very beautiful. I feel like a watermelon, all swollen. Everything hurts, and Ray's been so busy with what's happening that I can't even tell him that I'm so tired…" her voice cracks.

I scoot closer. "Hey, you're doing so good, momma."

"I don't feel that way."

"How do you feel? Tell me."

"Like I'm not myself. My body feels different–" a tear falls from her eyes, "–I feel like I'm just existing for this baby, I'm not happy. I mean, I love my baby, and Ray is doing his best and now…I feel like I'm not being appreciative. This is so hard."

The tears fall down in rapid waves, a sad smile on her face and I pull her into a hug. It's awkward because we're both sitting, but it works.

I don't say anything except letting her cry.

Ray and Ezra are around here somewhere in the house, so it's just been Quincy and I.

We stay in the hug for a long time, her tears soaking my shirt until she just breathes, but doesn't let go.

I may not relate to how she's feeling because I've never been pregnant, but I can understand the frustration, mood swings…having a baby is tough.

"I'm here for you, Quin. Anytime, always call," I murmur.

She pulls away, sniffling. "Thank you. I needed that hug."

"Of course."

"I'm sorry though about off loading everything on you—"

"Please don't apologize. You're bringing my niece into this world and that's the most selfless thing anyone can do."

"I love her." She looks down at her belly.

I lean toward it. "Hear that, little niece? Mommy loves you and so does Aunt Wren, so be nice, okay?"

"You're so silly, just like your brother." She laughs, and I grin. "So, where did you and Ezra go? I know damn well you weren't at Beth's for that long," she whispers.

My cheeks heat. "Just a little vacation in Minnesota."

"Really? Tell me—"

"Hey ladies!" Ray and Ezra walk into the dining room. He takes one look at Quincy and frowns, "Were you crying, baby?"

Quincy shrugs, a wobbly smile on her face.

Ray rushes toward her, scanning her from head to toe. "Are you hurt? Do you need us to get to the hospital?"

"No," she answers. "I'm fine, I promise."

Ray lifts a brow at me. "Is she fine, Wren? What happened?"

"Just be around more, okay? She needs you—the baby too."

"Done." He presses a kiss to her forehead. "EJ is back, he can take over for a while. Right?"

Ezra nods. "Sure. I've got you." He turns to Quincy. "You're amazing, Quincy. And you're almost there, few weeks left."

"Can't wait."

"Soon." I pat her thigh and get up.

"Are you ready to go, Birdie?" Ezra asks me, twirling his keys.

I shrug. "Sure."

"So," Ray says suddenly, "–I've been meaning to apologize…to both of you."

"Ezra and I?" My brows furrow.

"Yes. It bothered me the lack of trust and faith I had in both of you, the accusations I kept throwing—"

I stiffen, stomach sinking.

"Until I realised that Ezra cares about you, Wren, the same way I do. He's bull-headed when it comes to doing his tasks and doing it well. So I understand now that his protectiveness was just him doing what I asked him to do, down to beating up Reggie—

"It was when you both left for a breather that I realized just how badly I was riding you both with the accusations and everything. So I am very sorry."

No one speaks. The silence is loud, deafening.

The confession sits on the tip of my lips, and when I look at Ezra—expecting a nod of approval—he shakes Ray's hand and pull him into a bro hug.

"It's fine," he rasps. "I get it. She's your little sister and you were looking out for her."

My heart sinks. This is the perfect opportunity to tell Ray, the perfect timing to lay it all out there.

Quincy is here too, she can help us if things go sideways but Ezra…clearly he's not going to.

When I look at Quincy beside Ray, she shakes her head at me.

I don't know what it means. If it's disappointment or if she means I shouldn't spill yet until Ezra is ready.

But the question is: will he ever be ready?

"Wren?"

The sound of my name pulls me out of my thoughts, and I blink at my brother.

Clearing my throat, I reply. "It's fine…like Ezra said." I avoid Ezra's gaze because if I look at him, I'm going to burst with so much anger.

So, I fake a yawn. "I'm ready to go. Take care Quincy, and bye Ray."

"Aren't you going to hug me too?"

I walk into his arms and he ruffles my hair. "Alright, Chirp. Glad to have you back. I love you."

"Love you too, Ray."

If they notice the sulking in my voice, no one says anything.

We say our goodbyes and soon enough, I'm strapping my seatbelt in Ezra's car.

"Wren—"

"Don't even."

The car ride is agonizing, my throat thick with tears. The moment he parks in the driveway, I'm bolting out of the car and into my room.

Before I can close the door, his foot blocks it.

"Get out, Ezra," I warn. "Leave me the hell alone."

"Can I explain?"

"No!" I shout. "No, you cannot fucking explain, because I understand it clearly!"

"Wren, baby…"

"Just leave."

He doesn't. He stands with his foot stuck between the door, and I know it must hurt with how badly I'm trying to push the door close.

Yet, he doesn't budge.

And I give up, walking away from the door.

"Hear me out, please." He steps into the room, running a hand through his already messy hair. "We haven't said anything to each other since we left Beth's place today. It's killing me, don't shut me out…please."

"Say what you want to say, Ezra."

"Wren…"

"Oh my god!! Would you just fucking speak so I can go to bed?" I scream, tears rolling down my face. "I have tried, Ezra. I have been patient, I have been understanding, I have stayed…but you, what have you done? Promised and failed!"

"Things are tense this period."

"Excuses upon excuses! Tonight was the perfect timing, he gave us an out, a lifeline to confess. But you looked him in the eyes and just kept lying, dragging me into this mess with you!"

"You don't understand—"

"Oh I do," I scoff, harshly wiping my face. "I understand perfectly that you're a coward. That you'd never ever tell Ray, not on your own. The same cowardice you displayed before we got together, is the same cowardice you're displaying now."

His lips tighten. "That's unfair. You're his sister, you're not disposable like I am. I know it looks like I don't want to tell him, but it's not the right time."

I shake my head. "There will be no right time, Ezra. The earlier you know this, the better."

"I know but, this is wrong timing. You have no idea the tension and pressure we're under." He steps closer, lifting my chin to thumb away some tear streaks. "Please, give me some grace, some time."

"I don't have any left to give," I murmur, pushing his hand away as I step back.

His eyes dim, hands falling limply to his side. "I'm sorry. I promise that we'll tell him. I swear it, Wren."

"I'm exhausted." My voice cracks. "I need to sleep."

He takes a deep breath, and swallows. "Smitties MC, they reached out."

I freeze.

"They want you," he whispers. "I don't know why, but they do. Their president specifically asked for you."

My throat dries. "Th-the woman?"

"Yes." He nods. "Ray is trying to strike a deal. We bring you to a mutual venue, while Ray finds out why she wants you. Maybe we can negotiate after."

"Oh god."

"And the anonymous sender," he continues. "I asked what they want, like you advised me to."

My heart pounds in my chest. Ezra, he looks tired, exhausted.

All the lightness and happiness he came with from Minnesota seem to have been snuffed out…in less than forty-eight hours.

"What…" I pause. "What did they say?"
