Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 144
Wren
The move to England was nostalgic.
Ray hasn't stopped calling, Beth and Noah too. It's been almost a week since we got here and Mitch has called just once.
Settling in hasn't been hard, in fact, we settled in pretty early with Hannah and Andrea.
"Wren, honey, you said you're heading out, yes?" Andrea asks as Hannah disposes of the take out trash.
We're yet to go grocery shopping, so we've been unable to cook. Andrea doesn't like that we've been ordering take outs, but we don't have a choice.
I nod. "Yes, yes. My friend's coming in from Windsor."
Judi has been in England for a while, working with her boss. But she'll be heading back to Seattle tomorrow. When I informed her I was here, she screamed in my ear and promised to see me today.
At least Windsor isn't so far from London.
It's been great taking in the wet weather, and the accents. It's so different from New Orleans, and quite peaceful—compared to the MC life we had going on.
"Alright, alright. Judi, you said?"
"Yes."
"Can you call Ezra and ask him to take you grocery shopping after you meet up with your friend?"
I snort, laughing. "Andrea! You really hate take outs? I'd do my best, but you know, Ezra's a little busy overseeing the bar since his manager quit."
"I know. How about you get us something small, nothing crazy. Maybe some pasta, tomato sauce..."
"Okay, okay." I laugh. "I'll see what I can do. You know I'll have to take the tube."
"I don't want you to get missing."
"I've got the gps–"
"You're dyslexic, that's not going to help." She teases. "You know what? I'll send the list to Ezra, he'll pick them up."
I laugh again. "He has no other choice."
She winks. "Exactly."
"You look pretty, aunt Wren." Hannah grins, tugging on the fur coat I have on.
"Thank you, darling. I'll be back soon, okay? Stay with Grandma Andrea."
She nods. "We'll have so much fun."
"Definitely."
And then, my phone rings.
There's only one call I'm expecting and when her voice comes in, a smile breaks out across my face.
"Wren!" Judi squeals when I pick up. "I'm in London, so just get to any cafè and share your location, I'll be with you soon."
"I don't know any of the good ones, but Ezra's mom gave me one address."
"Doesn't matter. If you get into a horrible one, we'll simply leave when I get there. I don't want you to get missing."
This is the second person that thinks I'll go missing, I don't know how to feel about it.
"Well, okay then. I'll do that. See you soon."
"Bye honey."
By the time I drop the call, Andrea and Hannah are already snuggled into the couch, watching a Disney movie.
I lean over the back of the sofa and give both of them an awkward hug. "I'll be leaving now."
"Alright, honey. Take care. And don't forget that address."
The address plays in my my mind again.
"I won't."
"Bye momm—Aunt Wren!" Hannah's eyes go wide and she clamps her hands over her mouth, quickly turning away from me.
I kiss the top of her head, heart pounding. "I love you."
It's not the first time she's making that slip, and some times at night when Ezra and I tuck her into bed, she calls me "mommy".
It never stops making my heart skip, though.
With one last look at both of them ensnared by the TV, I take my leave and call Ezra.
He picks up on the second ring. "Hey baby. How're you?"
"I'm fine. Wanted to tell you that I'm going to meet Judi."
"Shoot! You mentioned that, he sighs. "I was supposed to come pick you up, but it's a little crazy here."
"That's fine. I'll find my way. Also, your mom's going to send you a list—"
He snorts. "She already sent the grocery list. I'll get everything."
"Alright darling. Later then?"
"I'll call you. And keep your location on, please."
"It's already on."
"Be safe, okay? If you need anything, let me know. I've sent some money to you, go crazy with Judi."
My heart melts. "You didn't have to. I already have some money from—"
"I know you do. I just wanted to."
"You know I've been applying to schools here," I remind him. "I can't go crazy with Judi because we need money for tuition when I pass the exams."
He laughs. "We have money, sweetheart. Have fun, and if you choose not to continue with school or even work, we'll still be fine."
I don't say anything. Not immediately. I let his words warm me, soothe me.
And when I can't think of what to say, I say the only thing that matters. "I love you, Ezra."
"I love you, darling. Though, I know you want to finish up university, at least there's some sanity in this country."
"Yea. I can't let all my wound stitching skills and wound cleaning skills go to waste."
"Of course." He chuckles. "My pretty nurse. You're going to do great, okay? And tomorrow, we'll also look for schools for Hannah for the next school year."
I've been worried about the exams, the applications too. Even though Ezra and Andrea helped me read through all the things I typed, I'm still worried that they might spot some errors, that my dyslexia will interfere.
Yes, I added my...learning difference as a disclaimer and I hope they don't mind it.
I breathe, my mood dampened. "Okay."
"Hey, what's that tone?"
"Nothing."
"Wren? Baby?"
"We'll talk when you get back, okay? Focus on work, and stop worrying about me."
His breathing deepens. "I'll always worry about you, sweetheart."
"I've found a cab," I lie. "I'll call you back."
"Oh okay. My regards to Judi."
"Bye."
"Bye, darling."
Lucky for me, I don't have to feel guilty about lying because a cab pulls up immediately and I get in, rattling off the address Andrea drilled into me for a cafe.

"Oof!" The breath leaves me when Judi slams into me in what's supposed to be a hug. I can't have it in me to complain though.
My arms wrap around her as she sways us rapidly. "Wren!! I've missed you so much."
"I've missed you, too!!" I chuckle and hold her slightly away from me and take her in. "Look at you! You're glowing."
"Am I? I'm so drained from working, my new boss is a demon."
I snort, slapping a hand over her mouth. "You can't just say that here, we're in a public place."
"British people don't care, trust me."
"Doesn't matter, Judi." I laugh.
"Oh hush, come on." She hooks her arm through mine and looks around. "Huh, this cafè isn't bad. But there's one with less people."
"Are you sure we can't just manage—"
"We have so much to catch up on with so little time. I need to be able to hear about everything, and if we're going to cry, we need the privacy to do so."
"Of course." I grin. "How dare I not take that into consideration? Gosh, I really missed you."
She plants a big, wet kiss on my cheek. "I missed you more. So many times I wanted to say 'fuck it' and hop on that plane, but...this boss isn't as lenient as Andi."
My smile wavers. "Have you heard from him?"
"Nope!" She pops the 'p' with a laugh that doesn't quite reach her eyes, and I know she's still heart broken. "But that's okay. Now, look, you're gonna make me sad. This is why we need to go to the other cafè."
"Yes ma'am."
She tugs me back out into the cold, wet atmosphere and hails a cab immediately.
"How come your boss let you come around?"
"Ah." She scratches the back of her head, avoiding my eyes.
My eyes narrow. "Judi? What did you do?"
"He thinks I'm on the flight back to Seattle."
"What?"
"It's the weekend, I'll get back to Seattle tomorrow, just in time for Monday." She grins sheepishly. "He's not going to know."
I gasp, eyes wide. "Judi!"
