Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 74
Ezra
Their voices carry into the living room.
"What exactly is your problem, Ray? I can't do something nice for EJ? Is that it? Hm?" Wren yells.
"Why are you being defensive?"
"Me?" Wren blurts. "I'm being defensive? If I'm defensive, then you're overbearing as fuck, Ray."
I wince.
This is not what I wanted. It's the first time they're yelling at each other and it pricks at me.
Guilt creeps up my spine. I stare down at my hands, heart pounding because I can't walk in there and stick up for Wren.
Everything will blowout of out proportion.
The cake, drinks and food are still perfectly set on the table, the scent of something floral burns in the air.
God, she threw me a little intimate dinner. And Ray just had to come with me.
"I am looking out for you!" Ray screams.
"No! You're being controlling, trying to dictate every move I should or shouldn't make." Her voice goes quiet. "It's draining."
"Just...just answer me this, is anything going on?"
My heart stops, throat tightening.
"No," Wren whispers.
Fuck, I feel the brokenness in that whisper, I know how badly she wants to tell Ray...but I'm not ready.
I know how Ray is, I know how much he's going to disapprove of this...yet, I need to talk to him first. See if I can change his mind, if I can assure him of how much I love his sister.
Then again, if he refuses, I don't think I can bear it. I wouldn't survive it.
Maybe that's why I'm stalling.
I'm trying to hold on to what Wren and I have, trying to savor it, treasure it for as long as I can before she's ripped from me.
Ray sighs. "Do you promise?"
It goes quiet for bit, then she answers. "Yes."
And that breaks me more.
We're both lying to Ray, breaking promises.
Fuck, I feel awful.
Running a hand through my hair, I push the door open to catch them in a hug.
"I'm sorry," Ray murmurs, his back to me. "I'm only looking out for you. Ezra will not be good for you, Wren."
I flinch.
My jaw tightens, and my heart sinks to my stomach.
Her eyes lift to mine. "W-why?"
"He's done things—we both have—he's got enemies, and they'd come for you to get to him...and me."
Wren's eyes well up slightly.
Pressing my lips together, I quietly head up to my room.
Truth is, Ray's right. Those were the exact reservations I had before Wren and I started seeing each other.
Sinking to my bed with my hands in my hair, I sigh deeply, my eyes squeeze shut.
Wren and I...we're not going to work. Not when Ray is certain I'm not good enough for his little sister.
God, she'd had the night planned out and now it's ruined. My appetite is gone.
Shrugging off my clothes, I turn on the shower the same time my door gently cracks open..
"Hi baby." Wren steps into the room.
I frown. "Where's Ray?"
"He's downstairs—"
"You need to leave, darling. This is risky."
"Quincy called him."
My head shakes. "Go downstairs, Wren."
She only steps in further, lips quivering.
Fuck, she's ruining me. She's ripping me apart with the tear that rolls down her face.
Ray's words ring in my ears, but call me careless because I throw caution to the wind, and give in to my girlfriend who looks like she needs a big hug.
Frankly, I do too.
"Come here." I sigh, spreading my arms.
She walks right in, her soft body presses up against me. I don't realize how much I've missed her today until I hold her tight.
I bet she can feel how hard my heart is thundering, especially knowing Ray's only a few steps away.
"W-we can talk to him, Ezra." Her voice breaks.
Pinching her chin, she looks up at me. I kiss her forehead and her eyes.
"Not yet...please."
"God, Ezra, he's getting even more suspicious, we've been lying to him," she sobs. "I f-feel s-so so hor-horrible."
"Hey, hey...I'll handle it, okay? Give me a little time, please."
"Okay." She sniffles. "I'm sorry though, I wanted tonight to be good for you."
Her bright blue eyes are still glassy, swirling with the love she shows me everyday. I don't know what I did in my past to have this damsel love me, want me...but fuck, if I know, I'll do it again.
Leaning gently, I press my lips against hers. She opens up for me almost immediately. Her lips salty from the tears.
It's a brief kiss, but still, it's filled with a promise of more.
My smile is small, almost bittersweet, as I stare into her eyes again. "You have nothing to apologize for. It's perfect....you're perfect."
Christ, she really is.
Her eyes, her mind, her heart, her smile...they're beautiful, perfect in every way.
Tracing her jaw with my knuckles, I take her in. She's in a little dress that exposes those toned, milky legs that go on for days.
If anyone told me that I'll have this woman, that I'd be head over heels in love with this woman...I'd have given them a good beating for spilling lies.
But here we are—here I am, hopelessly and irrevocably in love with this woman.
"I love you." The words tumble out of my lips effortlessly.
When she smiles, it lights me up. My heart soars, my nerve endings rise to the surface. I'm blown away, recklessly enchanted.
"I love you." A blush coats her cheeks as she tucks a hair behind her ears.
Jesus, she's gorgeous.
"Take a shower," she continues. "Get dressed and come down so I can celebrate you properly. Happy birthday, my love."
She goes to leave, but I tug her back to my chest.
Leaning, my breath ghosts her skin as I roll her earlobe between my lips. "I can't wait to peel this little dress off your body...respectfully, of course."
Her whole body flushes, and she shivers.
Swatting me across the chest, she glares. "Stop it. Ray's downstairs."
"He's a little cockblocker, isn't he?"
A giggle bursts from her throats and she shakes her head at me. "Shower and come down, you big goof."
This time, I don't stop her when she leaves. My eyes follow the sway of her hips until she disappears behind my door.
"God, Ray! You're still talking to Quincy?"
The door clicks shut.
Ray burps loudly, earning a dirty look from Wren.
"None of this was for you, yet you ate the most portion." She scolds.
Ray only grins. "You still got leftovers, pack some up for Quin?"
Wren huffs. "Only because it's Quincy. How's she though?"
He rubs a rough hand down his face, and sighs.
For the first time, I see how haggered he looks...tired.
"It's been a little rough, but she's doing great. We both can't wait for this baby to come, three more months."
"My niece is almost here." Wren smiles, and hands over the packed up food for Quincy.
I give him an encouraging pat on the back. "You've both come this far, already. Everything will be fine."
"Thanks, man."
Ray rises to his feet, and gives me a look. "Walk with me?"
Nodding wordlessly, I follow him out of the house.
We wave in greeting to the men that sit in front of the house, all three have eaten to their heart's content.
Ray takes out his bike from my trunk, and we walk further down the the road, until he stops.
"I think my sister has a crush on you," he blurts out.
I blink. "What?"
"Wren...she has a crush on you, I can tell."
It's more than a crush, but okay.
One of my hands immediately rub at my neck. "Ah, why do you think so?"
"Intuition." He shrugs.
"Okayy..."
"We need to do something about it."
After a beat of silence, I reply. "Like what?"
"But first, I need to ask you one last time, EJ..." my stomach sinks. "I won't ask you again, but...can I trust you with Wren? Can I trust you not to touch my sister?"
I gulp. "Yes, man."
His fingers dig into my shoulder blades as he stares long and hard at me.
"Okay, I believe you. Which is why you're gonna help me."
"Help you?"
"Well, you're helping me help Wren."
I raise a brow. "Huh?"
"We need to get Wren a boyfriend."
My blood runs cold.
What. The. Actual. Fuck!
