Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 87
Wren
"I think that's a good idea," Ray mumbles through the phone. "The kids will cheer you up, and at least you'll have someone to talk to."
Ezra scowls at that, and I bite my lip to suppress my giggle.
"Yea," I say to Ray. "Just wanted to let you know though."
Since we're leaving for Beth's, I had to let Ray know of our plans.
Thankfully, my overbearing, and overprotective brother approved.
Little miracles.
"Okay. And EJ? He'll stay with you guys, right?"
I nod. "Yes."
"Good. He'll make sure you're all fine. Let him know he can take a biker with you guys if he needs to."
"Got it."
"Alright, Chirp. Later, let me attend to Quincy—babe!"
The call beeps, and Ezra crosses his arms with a glare. "At least you'll have someone to talk to?"
My lips pinch together, laughter bubbling in my chest but I swallow it down.
"I'm sure he didn't mean it that way."
"Trust me, he did." He clicks his tongue. "I'm just a wall of muscle to your brother, sweetheart. Apparently I'm incapable of being a suitable companion to speak to."
I snort, choke on my saliva and burst into loud laughter. His scowl only deepens.
My pink carry-on hangs over his shoulder and it only makes him look ridiculous with that macho scowl and humour in his eyes.
"You're a perfect companion, babe."
His lips pull into a smirk. "Of course I am. But I have to say, I'm especially skilled at speaking between your thighs...if you get my point."
My jaw drops dramatically, eyes nearly popping off my head when his statement clicks.
"Ezra!"
"That's how you scream my name too."
I gasp, reaching to swat him but he jumps out of my reach with a loud laugh.
"Oh my goodness! You're unbelievable!" I screech.
Despite it all, a flush creeps up on my cheeks and neck.
He continues laughing, blowing me a kiss through it all. "You know I'm right though."
"I don't know anything." I huff. "Let's get going."
His phone rings and when he sees the caller ID, his lips twitch.
Jamming his thumb on the speaker, he picks up.
"Hi daddy!"
"Hi Uncle EJ!"
The kids voices filter in, loud and full of energy by this time of the evening.
"Hi guys," he replies with as much enthusiasm. "Aren't you meant to be asleep?"
"We are, buttt..." Hannah drawls. "Are you almost here, yet? With aunt Wrennie?"
He snorts. "No sweetheart. Tell you what, you and Noah should go to bed. When you wake up in the morning, you'll see us."
"But I want to see aunt Wrennie tonight."
"And what about me?"
The line goes quiet for a while.
My eyes widen, and a chuckle spills from my lips.
Immediately, I press a hand to my mouth, stifling the giggles that still make their way out.
Ezra frowns, shaking his head.
"Is that aunt Wrennie?" Hannah asks. "Aunt Wrennie are you coming with daddy?"
"Yes baby. Like your dad said, go to bed. When you wake up you'll see me—" Ezra points to himself, "—us," I laugh.
"Okay. Come soon. Daddy?"
"Yes, love?" His eyes shine.
"I want new bows, dolls and chocolates. Can you get that on your way?"
Ezra huffs. "Okay, sweetie. I don't think I'll find bows tonight, but I'll get you chocolates."
"Me too, Uncle EJ. I want those big guns."
"Got it, Noah."
"Byeeee." They chorus.
Ezra gives me a blank stare. "Your brother sees me as a wall of muscle, and now the kids see me as an ATM machine. How great is that?"
I snort, and run my fingers on his bearded chin.
"If it helps, I see you as the love of my life, my best friend, my partner, and the best communicator of all time—" I wink, "—in every way."
A large smile splits across his face. "I'm glad you're finally on board with that."
I laugh. "Come here, you."
He kisses me softly, his hands on my face even softer.
When we pull away, I'm sucked into the pools of his gray eyes.
"I love you," he murmurs. "And when we get back, we'll tell Ray about us."
My eyes shine. "Really?"
"I swear it."
Wrapping my good arm around him, I hug him as tight as I can with one hand.
"I love you. And no matter what happens, I always will."
"Aunt Wren!!" Hannah's tiny footsteps patter down the stairs.
I rush over. "Careful, sweetie."
Before she can fly into my arms, Ezra snatches her up from the floor.
"Daddy!" She giggles. "Put me down, I want to hug aunt Wren."
"But I want to hug you first." He peppers kisses all over her face, and she laughs, wiggling in his arms.
"Daddy! Stop!" But she doesn't stop laughing.
I watch with a smile on my lips.
Dad looks good on him. It's sexy.
Eventually, he stops and props her on his hips.
"Look at aunt Wren's arm," he says softly, pointing to my injured arm.
Her eyes go round. "Oh my gosh, you're hurt."
Ezra nods. "She is. So you have to be careful so you don't hurt her more, okay? I know you're excited to see her."
"I really am." She wiggles. "Please put me down now."
"Promise to be careful."
She huffs. "I will be careful, daddy."
Ugh! She's so adorable. Her blonde hair is up in a matted mess of bed hair, and she's got sleep lines on her cheeks.
"Still, you have to promise."
Hannah huffs again. "I promise."
Beth laughs from behind us, clicking away at her computer where she's working.
When Ezra puts her down, she walks over to me and I squat again, engulfing her tiny body in a tight hug.
Baby powder. That's how she smells, and it melts my heart.
"Good morning, pretty girl."
She grins. "Good morning, aunt Wren. Did you fall down and hurt your arm?"
"Not exactly—"
"Cannon ball!!!!!"
We hear the second patter of footsteps, and the moment I turn around, my eyes widen.
"Noah, no!" Ezra and Beth scream, rushing forward.
But it's too late.
Noah flies through the air, and I have no choice but to reach up and catch him since I'm closer to the stairs.
An action that shakes my injured arm.
When I catch him though, the pain that shoots up my arm is almost unbearable.
Tears spring to my eyes, heat of flames and a throbbing ache lick at my arm. Blood seeps through the bandage.
"Aunt Wren." Hannah begins to cry.
"Oh my god, Wren!" Beth takes him from me. "Are you okay?"
No.
No, I'm not.
