Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 121

Wren

I move to get up, give him some breathing space, but he latches onto my waist, keeping me in place.

"Don't leave," he croaks.

I shake my head. "I wasn't. I just...you need to process."

He still doesn't let go. "You're pregnant? Are you sure?"

My hands tremble when I take out the doctor's reports from my bag and hand it to him. He scans it, and gulps.

Slowly, he lifts his eyes to mine then to my tummy. And then, he splays his large, tattooed hand across my stomach.

I inhale sharply.

I don't know what's going through his head, or what he's feeling. But since he hasn't thrown me off his lap, it's a good thing right?

Right.

"You're really pregnant." He huffs a laugh, and groans. "Ray is going to kill me this time, fuck!"

"Are you...mad?"

He frowns. "Mad? That you're carrying my child?"

I shrug wordlessly.

He sighs, and cups my jaw, pressing his forehead to mine. "I could never be mad, Wren, never. But do you want to keep it?"

"W-what do you think?"

"I think we should," he replies. "Except you don't want to. But I'm happy about this baby, Wren. Yes, we should've been more careful, and it's definitely not the time, but I was serious about marrying you, settling down with you."

"So..so you want this?" My voice cracks, and I sniffle.

"Of course I want this. Come here."

He pulls me to his chest, and just holds me. I stare down at his hand that rests protectively across my belly.

It's silent for a bit until I finally ask the question that's been bothering me. "Why didn't you call me, Ezra? Or take my calls? Why go through Quincy?"

He tenses. "How'd you find out?"

"It was the only way I could know that you'll be home today."

"I'm sorry," he says. "I couldn't take your calls or call you because I wasn't ready. I knew if I heard your voice, I'd march all the way to Ray's just to see you...I can't do that while I'm still healing from the bruises."

I push a hand under his shirt. "Let me see."

"The swellings have gone down," he whips his shirt off, "but there's still some..."

Welts.

They're a dark shade of purple, covering nearly every inch of his body.

I blink and a tear escapes my watery eyes as I reach up to touch them. On his sides, on his chest..."I'm s-sorry. So, so sorry that Ray did this to you."

He thumbs away my tears, and presses a kiss to my forehead with a small smile. "There's nothing to apologize for."

"Ray is—"

"He had to do what he thought was best."

"You were right to be afraid. I get it now, why you were scared, why you weren't ready to tell him. I d-didn't think he would do such a thing to you."

"There's a reason he's President, sweetheart," he says. "But nothing will change the fact that he loves you and would do anything to protect you, even if it means hurting his best friend."

I sniffle, frowning. "You should be mad at him. Why are you defending him?"

"Because I get it, Wren. I do. And yes, I wouldn't have beaten up my best friend like that, but everyone handles things differently."

He's right. And I hate that he's right.

Everyone processes differently, everyone reacts to things differently. Doesn't mean they're always right, but it's mostly always valid...and maybe a little justified.

A deep breath leaves my lungs. "So, what are we going to do? Do we talk to him now that he's a bit calmer?"

He snorts. "He's not calm, trust me. If he sees me again, he's going to get riled up."

"So what...."

"I have a plan, still sorting things out. But I hope that it works."

My brows lift. "What plans?"

"You know damn well I'm not going to tell you." He laughs.

It cracks a smile across my face. My first genuine smile in days, and god, my heart soars. I'd forgotten how to be happy, what it meant to be happy.

"I had to try," I reply with a giggle.

"When everything is in place, I'll tell you about it."

"Okay."

Our smiles are still in place, firmly planted on our faces. Eyes locked on each other, never wanting to leave.

"I missed you," he breathes, tracing my face with his knuckles. "So fucking much, love."

My smile turns wistful. "Me too. I didn't know what to do with myself."

"I had to stay at Beth's because everything here reminded me of you. Everywhere I looked, I saw your things...and I knew if I stayed here, I'd slowly lose my mind."

"I'm so happy I get to see you, to hold you."

A small smile grazes his lips as he stares at me. "I love you, Wren. You know that, right?"

My head bobs.

"I love you so damn much that sometimes, it hurts to breathe," he continues. "You're everything to me, and I can't do this life without you."

Tracing his beard with my finger, I reply, "I love you too, baby. I need you, everyday, everytime."

"It might take a little time, but I'm going to marry you, and we'll leave New Orleans, start over somewhere with Hannah and the new baby, and my mom."

"Your mom?"

He grins. "Yes. She'll be discharged soon."

"Really?" My eyes widen. "Oh my goodness, I'm so happy for you...and Andrea."

"Beth visited. After you sent those pictures, she realised how much she's missed out. AJ said he'd visit too, when he's got some time on his hands."

"That's so amazing. She's going to love that."

"She will," he agrees. "And I have you to thank for their change of heart. So thank you, sweetheart. Thank you for being the most amazing little human—"

"Hey!" I tug his beard. "I'm not little!"

He chuckles, low. "I actually like that. Do it again, tug my beard again. Maybe I'll put another baby in you."

I gasp, cheeks beating. "Ezra!"

His head falls on my chest, shoulders racking with laughter. "God, I've missed the way you say my name when I'm being—"

"Crass?"

He howls. "Yes, that's the word."

"It's not that funny."

That only makes him laugh harder, and unfortunately, I find myself joining in.

God, I've missed him.

"You've got to finish this up, darling," Ezra says, holding a spoonful of food to my mouth. "You're not just eating for yourself anymore."

My lips twist. "Don't get overbearing now. I'm only two weeks gone."

"That's a pretty long time to me. Now, open up."

After three more feeding sessions, he pours a tall glass of water for me, and makes sure I drink it all.

I do my best.

It's the largest I've eaten, and the most filled up I've been in a long time.

"Come on, let's head up." He takes my hand, and silently, we trudge up the stairs to his room.

My head rests on his chest, listening to the steady thump of his heart while he plays with my hair.

"How long would you be here for?" Ezra asks.

I plant a kiss on his bare chest, and sigh. "I'll be heading back soon. But...I don't want to."

"I don't want you to either," he mumbles. "How did you manage to get here?"

I snort and narrate the story to him. "Quincy helped me. She's the sweetest."

"That's risky. If Ray finds out—"

"He won't."

"Okay, I hope so. My body is already battered enough."

Leaning up, I peer at him. "Thought you were invincible and indestructible."

"Not to Ray's fist. Plus, you know I didn't fight back."

"Oh, my selfless baby," I coo.

He spanks my ass. "Don't tease me."

I laugh. "Or what?"

His eyes glint, and I smack my hand over his mouth. "Don't say you'll put another baby in me, Ezra."

He chuckles, and squeezes my ass. My stomach dips as a gasp falls from my lips.

The air quickly changes between us, charged with the tension that hums between us.

We haven't kissed yet. And I've been thinking about it.

His eyes dip to my lips, and goosebumps scatter across my skin.

"Kiss me," he rasps, licking his lips.

Instinctively, I do the same.

And gently, he guides my head to his and finally, our lips touch. I moan.

It feels like the first time all over again. It feels like...coming home, and my heart warms.

The kiss is slow, unhurried. We take our time exploring, getting to know each other again.

And just when it gently builds up, my phone rings.

Ezra tenses and rips his mouth away, picking up my phone from the stand. "It's Quincy."
