Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 81

Wren

I miss Ezra.

But I'm still upset with him.

On just my second day at Ray's, I'm ready to go home.

Quincy's been our only link for communication via text. Calling Ezra is not an option at all, not when I have a really nosy brother.

And when Ray's not around, he's with Ezra.

It's been horrible.

Exhausting.

Annoying.

"He says; 'why do you have a big brother, babe?'" Quincy reads from my phone. "And why do you have dyslexia? I have to censor my words because of Quincy!"

I laugh at that, a flush creeping up my cheeks.

Ezra has apologized a thousand times, and I can't even be properly mad anymore.

"Ouu, what kind of things does he tell you, Wrennie?" Quincy teases.

"Oh hush." My lip rolls between my teeth, and I huff.

"Tell me one."

"Quincy!" I scold, fighting the thick blush that threatens to spread across my skin.

"Maybe I'll just ask him."

"Nooooo..."

But she's already typing out a text, and when she clicks 'send' the reply comes in immediately.

She reads it and erupts into laughter. "I asked him to tell me some of the censored words. He said, "hell no." And he was quick with it!"

Her loud laughter continues, and I can't help but join in.

"Oh my god." She stills. "I think I peed a little."

That actually does it for me this time. I burst into laughter which only gets harder when I see how much Quincy's trying not to laugh.

Her face is as red as her hair, a hand clutching the under of her protruded belly.

"Stop," she cries, a giggle slipping past but she quickly pinches her lips together. "I've changed my pants so many times because I've been laughing a lot, Wren!"

"I'm sorry that Ray doesn't make you laugh enough." I pat her knee, my chuckles reducing only slightly.

"He does!"

"Not as hard as I do."

"Ew, Wren. I'm dating your brother."

I gasp, eyes popping. "Quincy! I'm talking about laughter, get your mind out of the gutter!"

We pause, eyes widening simultaneously.

"That rhymes!" We chorus.

"Jinx!" Another chorus.

"Double jinx."

"Triple jinx."

"Stop!" She holds a palm out. "I'm hungry."

Of course she is.

I'm sure that I've gained at least an extra hundred pounds in the last two days. Quincy cooks a storm, and eats even more.

"Okay. More rice?"

She shakes her head. "I'd like to order some Italian. Would you like some? And can you help me with Ray's card on the table over there?"

"Sure. Hit up Ezra, ask if he'll be coming here today?"

I head to the dining table when she calls out, "He said 'nah'."

It was only wishful thinking.

"Wrennie," Quincy murmurs when Ray disappears down the hall.

I drop the last plate on the rack. "Mhm?"

"You and Ezra," she says softly.

And I already know what she's about to say.

"From what I've observed, you're texting 'I love you's' now. Tell your brother, Wren."

My throat tightens. "We will. Ezra said we should do it together."

"That's fine, but tell Ray on time. I'll be there if you need me, and if he acts out of character, I'll talk to him," she says. "But tell him on time, Wren. Don't wait until he finds out himself...you know he can."

"I know."

If Ray's suspicion levels rise, he's going to find out. I know my brother, and that's what I keep telling Ezra.

Yet, Ezra's terrified. Reasonable so. My brother can be quite hot-headed and stubborn.

"Alright. Thank you so much for being here, Wren. Didn't know how much I needed female company."

She waddles forward for a really awkward hug, but we make it work.

"Goodnight, Quinny."

"Goodnight Wrennie."

When she's out of sight, a deep sigh cuts through the air. After Reggie is sorted, we'll tell Ray.

We have to.

Turning off all the lights I head into my room and snuggle under the blankets just as my phone rings.

I pick up without looking.

There's heavy breathing on the line, one that sounds familiar.

My heart speeds up. "Ezra?"

"Hey, sweetheart," he breathes.

I throw the blankets over my head, and snuggle deeper.

"Hi."

"Jesus, Wren, I miss you," he rasps. "And I'm so sorry, baby. I'm sorry about the actions I took, please... come home."

I swallow thickly. "I'm sorry too. Give me a week, I'll come back."

"A week?" He croaks. "I...I can't...Everything reminds me of you, and I...god, baby."

"It took a few hours to realize I was a little dramatic," I huff a laugh. "I get why you had to do what you did."

"You were feeling your feelings, love. Nothing dramatic, irrational or overreacting about that. Okay?"

"Okay."

"Do you..." he hesitates, "do you miss me too?"

I snort. "Like that's a question. I miss you so much, baby."

"Will—"

A crash sounds in his background, followed by indecipherable chatter.

I frown. "Everything okay? You sound like you have company."

"Not quite. I'm at—I'm at the clubhouse."

My frown deepens. "Why? Still working? Ray came home hours ago."

The line is quiet for a while before he responds.

"I've been staying here."

"Excuse me?"

He chuckles but it's hollow, dry. "I couldn't stay at home. I wasn't kidding when I said everything reminds me of you."

"Baby..." I pout.

"It's nothing to worry about. When you're ready, we'll go home together."

"But I'll be here for a week."

"It doesn't matter, love. I'll be alright."

"Do you think..." I sigh. "Do you think Ray will take me with him to the clubhouse?"

"Unlikely. Reggie might be visiting soon."

Ah. That explains the additional bikers that surround the house every waking hour.

"That's not comforting," I murmur dryly.

He laughs. "We'll be fine." Then, he breathes, deep and long. "It's so good to hear your voice, Birdie."

My cheeks heat, and I tuck my lip between my teeth.

Fiddling with the blanket, I reply, "It's good to hear your voice too."

It goes quiet again. Almost like we're savoring the moment.

God, I've missed him.

His voice, his lips, his hard body...even the way he teases me.

For a moment, I catch myself thinking... If Ray doesn't approve, is this how it's going to feel?

There's a high chance the pain, longing and yearning will be more than this. And that's scary on its own.

I don't want us to experience that.

"I've been thinking," he finally says.

"Yea?"

"I'd like to take you out...in public."

My breath hitches. "Are you—are you saying we'd tell Ray?"

"No," he blurts. "I mean, not yet. Before we tell him, I'd like to do that. After the Reggie thing, of course."

A pinch forms between my brows. "It's not possible to do that. Someone will see us."

"I know. That's why it won't be here, in New Orleans."

At that, I stiffen, pausing. "What?"

"We can fly out...somewhere close, and just spend the day together."

I don't respond immediately.

"What will we tell Ray?"

"That we're staying with Beth and the kids for a while."

I mull over the idea. It sounds foolproof, and my heart soars.

Although we've added lying to Ray aside from breaking his trust, I can't say no to that.

"That...that sounds perfect, baby," I gush, a wide smile on my face.

I'm giddy.

My mind's already thinking of all the places we could go, all the things we could do. It looks as perfect as it sounds.

"So it's a yes, right?"

"You didn't ask me, you big oof."

His low chuckle comes in. "I didn't, huh? So, where would you like to go?"

Ezra and I talk about different places, things we could do in a day. He even checks the time differences, distance and all the practical things.

As he speaks, his soft voice lulls me to sleep.

I'm snuggled under the covers, talking—no, listening to my boyfriend. It couldn't get better than this.

My eyes flutter shut to the deep timbre of his voice, and the last thing I hear is;

"I hope your brother approves of us, sweetheart."

"He will." I respond.

What I don't know is... Did I respond out loud? Or in my sleep?
