Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 69
Wren
"I saw you talking with Ray yesterday," I say. "What about?"
Ezra sighs, fingers stroking my bare back. We've been cuddled up since last night, just relinquishing in each other's skin.
His heart thuds steady in my ears while I brush his naked chest.
"He asked when you started giving a shit about me," he huffs a laugh.
Quickly, I recall Ray asking the same thing to me. I breathe out, eyes fluttering close.
"What did you say?"
He manages a shrug. "That I'm equally confused."
I don't reply, my mind spinning a mile a minute.
"Do you think we should tell him?"
The question comes out quiet, almost inaudible. Ezra tenses, hands tightening around my waist.
"What exactly will we tell him? That we've been sleeping together?"
My stomach sinks. "I...I shouldn't have asked."
"Birdie."
Lifting my eyes, I peer up at him.
"I haven't apologized," he says, "for that night."
The night where he practically told me to shove my love up my ass.
"I'm sorry. You...I want to say you caught me off guard, but not really."
"It's fine," I reply.
There's nothing to really say to that.
"No, it's not. I could give a ton of excuses for why I walked out after you were vulnerable with me, but they're not valid so I'm sorry, darling."
My throat tightens. "Why did you walk out?"
It's quiet for a while until he stares into my eyes, somehow managing to calm my racing heart.
"Because I'm so fucking stupid, and insensitive, birdie. But also because I was terrified."
"Of what?"
"I knew that I was going to meet with Mitch, and I didn't know how it would end. If he'd succeed to burst up my legs some more, or if he'd put a bullet through my chest..." he pauses.
"I dont deserve your love, and I wouldn't want you to love me and then...lose me."
I'm speechless after that, my broken heart somehow fitting together. I understand him now, I do.
Cupping his jaw, I speak. "I'm in love with you, Ezra. Even though you walked out, it doesn't change how I feel."
"I've got skeletons, Birdie. I've done things..."
"I know. And I love you."
His gray eyes search mine, bouncing between them.
"Go on a ride with me," he declares.
My brows furrow. "Not in this state. You're still banged up. Can you even drive?"
"If I can fuck, I can definitely drive." He grins.
"Ezra!"
Covering my hand on his jaw, he smiles. "It's nothing fancy, nothing serious...but go on a ride with me."
After a beat of silence, I tuck my lip between my teeth.
"Okay."
And he kisses me, slow and sweet. I notice he still doesn't say it back, and maybe he doesn't feel the same way...but that's fine.
At least for now.
"This is very spontaneous," I quip, settling into the back of his truck.
Ezra packed up some snacks and blankets, and drove us out to the beach. So here we are, settled in the truck bed, surrounded by snacks and drinks.
"It is." He nods. "Come here."
I shuffle closer, resting my head on his lap while he sifts his hands through my hair. The stars are up in the sky tonight, it's been a while since I saw them.
We're both lost in our thoughts, the evening breeze whistling with the gentle rushing of the water.
"You mentioned you have a younger brother, AJ?" I ask.
He hums in response. "His name is Ajax."
"Like Ajax Jax?"
"Yup." He pops the 'p' with a chuckle. "I know, our parents were odd."
Were.
"What happened to them?"
"My dad died of a heart attack when we were young, and my mom, she's...she's alive."
My brows shoot up. "Your mom's alive? How come you've never said anything?"
"It never came up."
With how tight-lipped his smile is, I know there's more to this story. But I don't push. He's finally telling me about himself, I don't want to jinx it.
"I'd love to meet her." He stiffens. "Some day," I quickly add.
"Maybe," he gruffs out. "Birdie?"
"Hm?"
"I'm not a good man," he says.
My heart races, but he's calm. Too calm. His hands don't stop playing with my hair or feeding me when he remembers.
All I do is pinch my lips shut, and listen.
"I've killed people, beaten people up," he continues. "I'm not proud of it, but with the life I've been handed, it's what I have to do."
"And with those actions, there are consequences. Example, Mitch."
A scowl appears on my face the second I hear that name. He chuckles, fixing my lips into a ridiculous smile.
We laugh but the moment quickly returns to being somber.
"You being in my life, is a threat to me. I can't lose you, Wren. I'd die before anything happened to you, do you understand me?"
I nod. "I know."
Not only has he said it, but he's done it. After all, he walked right into Mitch's lair like the hard-headed man he is.
But that's why I love him. His fearlessness, his audacity.
"Good. Because I love you, Wren."
My heart stops.
"It's still really terrifying, so damn risky because of your brother, but fuck, I love you," he says. "I don't know how you managed to break down my walls in just these few months, but I'm so fucking glad you did."
Tears spring to my eyes.
"Ezra..." my voice is choked, throat tight.
"Christ, I don't deserve your love, Wren. You could have anyone, have you seen yourself?"
Unable to keep laying I still, I sit up, maneuvering until I'm facing him, lips quivering.
"I want you," I whisper. "Just you, Ezra. I didn't expect to fall for you, this annoying biker man, but I did. I love you so much."
His thumb traces my lips.
"My girl," he murmurs. "You're my girl."
A laugh forces its way past my throat. "Aren't you gonna ask me properly?"
"I definitely will. Just wanted to give you a hint so you don't answer wrong when I ask."
"You're crazy." Even as I say that, happy tears roll down my cheeks, my heart soaring to the moon.
He reaches behind him and holds out a velvet box.
"Another gift," I say, not in the least bit surprised.
This man has spoilt me with so much gifts from dresses, to jewelries, to food, and down to my supposed cleaning payment where he upped the pay.
He only smiles. "I've had this for a while now, got it one of the days we went shopping for the baby shower."
The box is popped open. I gasp, pressing a hand to my chest.
Inside is a stunning white-gold ring with floral designs, attached to a silver necklace.
"This is beautiful," I gush.
"I got the necklace as an add-on because I don't want Ray asking you questions, but—" he gives me a boyish smile.
"Will you be my girlfriend, Wren?"
