Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 8

Wren

Ezra catches my hands before they can push him.

"Don't try it, birdie," he warns.

I yank my hand from him, chest heaving.

Whirling around, I glare at my brother. "Why? Why are both of you so goddamn insensitive!"

"That's not true, Chirp!"

"Hell, we're very sensitive, Wren," Ezra cuts in. "We're so sensitive we want to resurrect your stupid ex, and kill him again for touching you."

Raymond gives a firm nod, agreeing. "He hit you, and he's lucky he didn't die by my hands."

I scoff, shaking my head at the two men who are acting like big babies.

"I loved him," I croak, nose stinging. "I still do. We loved each other. He was everything to me."

Raymond sighs. "Chirp, I love you and I love my girlfriend...but I've never and will never raise a hand on any of you."

"I might not know what love is, but I damn well know what it isn't." Ezra rolls his eyes.

They don't understand. They're so caught up in one hit, they don't know it has never happened before.

Tears well in my eyes. "That was the only time..."

"No, maybe the first time. But if you tolerate it, it'll not be the only time," Ezra interrupts. "Birdie, your brother and I are only looking out for you."

A tear falls, and I swipe it away, lips wobbling.

"Yes, Chirp." Raymond approaches me. "But if you really want to find who killed..."

I nod immediately, sniffling. "I just want to know, that's all. Please, Ray."

He sighs, and I wrap my hands around him, crying into his chest. He pats my back wordlessly.

I don't have to look to know they're both communicating with their eyes until Raymond exhales loudly.

"Fine," he agrees. "But it won't be quick. If you stood at that door for as long as I know you did, you'd know that we're really busy this month."

"I know," I mumble into his chest, wrapping my arms tighter. "Thank you, Ray."

He gives me two more pats on the back, then breaks away from the hug.

I wipe my eyes, feeling much more relieved that my brother agreed to this.

"Do I get a hug too?" Ezra asks, arms spread wide.

Ray and I glare at him in response.

He chuckles. "Damn."

"I'm beginning to think pissing Wren off is your hobby, EJ," Ray mumbles, rounding his desk and taking a seat. "And maybe pissing me off too."

"Not at all," Ezra snorts. "She's just too easy to rile up."

I roll my eyes. "You both are talking about me like I'm not here...stop it."

"Make me, birdie," he taunts, pressing his lips together. His eyes swim with humor.

He's enjoying this, I realize. Like my brother said, pissing me off is his hobby.

"You'd like that wouldn't you?" I mutter dryly. "Tell me, Ezra—" I stop in front of him, eyes raking down his body, "does pissing me off turn you on?"

His eyes darken only briefly, but then he cackles. Laughing like a crazed hyena.

"You? Turning me on?" He continues laughing, going as far as patting his knees like what I said is the most ridiculous thing he has ever heard.

I'm not going to lie, it hurts. It hurts even more than the first time three years ago.

"Are you done?" I cross my arms, teeth grinding on each other but I keep my face blank.

He shakes his head. "Not yet, give me a minute."

Ezra wipes an imaginary tear from his eyes, bursts of chuckles slipping past his lips.

"That's enough, EJ!" Raymond orders, but there's no bite in his words.

In fact, when I look over at him, his eyes are glinting, lips twitching.

My frown deepens. "You think it's funny too."

"What? No!" He tries to be serious, but it fails. A chuckle leaves his lips.

I scoff. "Wow, you're both so mature."

That sends both of them into a fresh fit of chuckles at my expense.

I roll my eyes. I'm done here. I stomp toward the door.

"Chirp!" Raymond calls. "Come on, don't be like that."

I stop, glaring at him. "What's so funny, Raymond. Am I not attractive?"

Ezra's heated stare trails down my body, stopping at my thighs. They trail back up to my chest and then my face.

His tongue swipes his lips, and he pushes his bottom lip into his mouth.

I shudder, throat thickening at the glaring seduction in his eyes. But he ruins the moment by chuckling...again.

"It's not that you're not attractive." Raymond's voice brings me back to the conversation. "You're my little sister, and Ezra sees you as one too."

Supposed big brothers don't look at their sisters the way Ezra just did. Even if he did it to mock me.

"So I can't turn him on?" I snap.

Raymond presses his lips together, successfully containing his laughter this time. "I definitely hope not, Wren. But I'll let him answer the question."

He turns to Ezra. "Can Wren turn you on?"

Ezra's lips twitch slightly, but his eyes...they swirl with something I can't decipher.

"I'm going to stick with the straight answer...no, she can't."

I knew that's what he would say, but... I offer a smile that doesn't reach my eyes. "What's the crooked answer?"

"You can't handle it," he snorts. "You're gonna get mad."

I blink. "Try me."

Ezra squints at me, then shakes his head. "Nah, you can't handle it."

Irritation creeps up my spine, eyes twitching. My hands land on my waist, feet tapping the floor.

"What's the crooked answer, Ezra?"

My patience is wearing thin.

"Well, if you really want to know..." he drawls, crossing his arms.

Tattooed biceps bunch up his shirt, toned thighs spread apart.

Ezra pins me with a stern glare as he speaks. "You can't turn me on, Wren. Not in this lifetime, not in the next, and not even if you were some stranger on the road."

Raymond's jaw drops, but he quickly shuts it.

I will not let him get to me. I will not let his words prick me.

I stiffen, spine straightening and head held high. I take a moment to compose myself, expelling a slow breath through my nose.

A wide smile grazes my lips. "Likewise."

Raymond groans. "You just couldn't help yourself, EJ."

Ezra grins, a proud look in his eyes.

"Ray," I call with the same smile on my face. "I'll be going back to bed. Goodnight."

"Wait!" He says, settling back in his seat. "I need a word with both of you. Sit."

My brows pinch together. "Can't this wait till it's brighter in the day?"

"No, Chirp."

I huff and plop down on one of the seats. Ezra takes the other, and I shuffle away from him.

He moves to shuffle closer when Raymond glares at him. "That's enough for one night, EJ."

We both behave, staring up at Raymond, waiting for whatever information he has for us.

Raymond leans forward. "Since we've all established that you both are not attracted to each other and would never be in this lifetime, or the next, or even if you were strangers on the road..."

Ezra snorts, while my jaw clenches.

"It's safe to appoint EJ as your protector, Wren."

"No, thank you," I spit out before his words even land.

Raymond gives me a look. "I'm not asking. You're back here, and unfortunately things have only gotten worse. If people find out you're my sister, they'll want to use you to hurt me."

"It doesn't matter, Ray. I don't want Ezra."

"Not to be rude, EJ, but your sister is a thorn in my flesh," Ezra adds. "I really don't know."

Raymond stands to his feet, towering over both of us.

"Ezra is the only one I trust around you, Wren," he says to me. "Ezra, you're the only one capable. You're my enforcer, my right hand man, and my VP."

Ezra sighs. "Ray..."

"You know what?" Raymond snaps. "As your president, and as your big brother, Wren... this is an order."

My blood boils, fists clenched, I push off my chair. It tips over, falling loudly.

They both look up at me and I glare at them.

"You both think you can control my life? Newsflash, I won't let you... and that's an order."
