Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 129

Wren

Anger rumbles in my chest. Hot. Fiery.

"You just fucking cut me, Lydia!" I spit. "And for what?"

She pauses, and tilts her neck. "Watch your tone."

"You cut me and I should watch my tone?" I scoff. "If I wasn't tied up right now, god help me, Lydia..."

I feel a tap on my shoulder and I clamp my mouth shut. A light warning from Ajax, probably asking me to tone it down until Ezra and Ray get here.

"No, go on. What would you do?" She taunts, eyes glinting.

My jaw ticks. "Release me and find out."

Reginald barks out a laugh, and Lydia joins in. Somehow, it's a cue for the rest of the men to add their own nervous laughters.

It only riles me up further. All the tears have stopped, in its place is rage.

I struggle against the ropes around my wrist, and when I'm not able to break free, I snarl at all of them.

"AJ, release—" A loud ringtone pierces through the air. It's from Reginald, and he digs it out, brows pinched together.

"Lyd," he calls. "It's Ezra Jax."

Lydia raises a brow at me, and an ear-splitting grin spreads across my face. And then, it's my turn to laugh.

Yes, I'm the only one laughing but I don't give a bloody damn.

I cackle to my hearts content. "He's going to wipe all of you off the face of this earth."

"Pick up the call, Reggie."

He does, and punches the speaker button.

"Reginald, where the fuck is my girlfriend?"

Tears of relief fill my eyes as I hear his voice. Goosebumps spread across my skin, the hairs on my body standing on end.

"Ezra Jax." Lydia takes the phone. "You have my son."

The line goes quiet. "Raymond?"

"No, Tristan."

"Tristan?" He snorts. "Ah, I see where he gets his crazy from. Listen here Lydia, and listen good, if you touch Wren—even a strand of her hair—I will hand you over to a woman more deadly than I. I don't hurt women…but I'd make sure you're dealt with."

"Where's my son?"

"Where's my girlfriend?" He snaps. "I'll give you your son in one piece, if you give me Wren."

Lydia laughs. "You don't have him, do you?"

"Touch Wren and find out."

Before Lydia opens her mouth to retort, I beat her to it.

"Ezra!" I shout, heart thudding in my chest. "Baby, I'm at some ware—"

"Wren—"

The call clicks off and Lydia glares at me. "Donovan, gag her."

My eyes widen, and I shake my head as he stalks closer. "No, no, no…I'll be quiet…I'll be mph—"

Donovan tapes my mouth, while I turn my head this way and that—the only way I can fight this—but it's futile.

I glower at Lydia, and cuss at her in my head. God, I wish all the words I want to say to her are evident in my eyes.

When the sharp zing of a knife being flipped open meets my ears, I still.

She lifts it and the blade glints in the light.

"You think you're all that?" She trails it along the skin of my neck. My mouth does dry. "I've been lenient, forgiving if I say so myself, and here you are, being a nuisance."

The blade presses slightly into my skin, and I hold my breath just as it nicks my throat.

Warm blood trails down the column of my neck, and my eyes sting.

"Prez." Ajax clears his throat, interrupting Lydia.. "I think you should send in a video or picture of Wren tied up, it could prompt the Reapers to confirm or deny they're with Tristan."

She lifts the blade from my skin, and I expel a breath, saying a silent thanks to Ajax.

Jesus Christ, she's crazy.

I swallow the lump in my throat, eyeing her hand still clasped around the handle.

Lydia frowns. "If they have Tristan, they're not going to kill him, at least until they're sure Wren is dead. And my plan is to kill her before they kill us."

"But prez—"

"Oh shut it, AJ. I didn't ask for your fucking input. Even my brother knows to shut it."

He nods stiffly. "Of course."

"And you–" Lydia whirls on me, pointing the knife. "The same way Ezra Jax shipped my brother's bruised and bloodied body to us, is the same way I'll ship yours off to him. Except, it'll be your body parts."

Bile rises to my throat, and I push it down. I want to respond, but I can't. I want to tell her that Ezra and Ray will be here before she can hurt me further.

I want to tell her that she's only at an advantage because I'm tied up.

I want to tell he that the moment I get up from this chair, I will slit her throat.

That thought stops me. I sound like Ezra. The violence, the gore.

And I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing.

"Your boyfriend beat my son and my brother until both were damn near unrecognizable. Your father did his worst with me, and now your boyfriend. You're the perfect bait for my revenge, Wren."

Then she turns to Donovan, and nods. "Do it."

My stomach drops, all the breath leaves my lungs.

'Do what?' I want to scream.

Panic rises in my chest when Donovan takes Reggie's cane, a hard frown on his face.

"This is the same cane Ezra Jax used on my father," he scowls. "I watched him hit my father, and I couldn't do anything because I had to protect my identity. Now, you're going to pay for that, Wren Carlisle."

'Your father shot at me!' Is what I say but my words don't come out. 'He nicked me with a bullet!'

The words come out as 'mphm, mhphm, mph…"

Donovan lifts a brow. "Sorry, I don't speak gibberish." And he raises the cane.

The chair squeaks loudly as I try to move out the way, but it's not possible. And just before the cane comes down on me, a shot rings out.

A moment of silence falls, and everyone's eyes widen as Donovan clutches the hand that holds the cane.

Blood rolls down and seeps through his fingers, the cane drops to the floor.

When I turn to the source of the shot, I see Ajax.

His gun is still pointed at Donovan, his eyes hard and lips pulled into a straight line.

And then, Donovan screams.

That breaks everyone out of the silence.

"What the actual fuck, AJ?" Reginald screams, rushing to his son who's writhing on the floor and holding onto his hand like a lifeline.

The other men point their guns at Ajax and I, and Lydia just blinks.

She steps closer to him, eyes hard. "Can you explain to me what the hell was that?"

Relief at not being caned floods my body, but terror over what would happen to Ajax and I fills me too. Is it time for them to find out that Ajax is Ezra's brother?

Was that the plan with Ezra?

Hell, I'm grateful that he literally just saved my life…but at what cost? His life?

I'd hate myself if he died because of me.

Goddamn, I need this tape out of my mouth!

"No." Ajax shakes his head. "I can't."

"You can't explain?"

Reginald suddenly gets up with a gun pointed at Ajax. "You fucking bastard!" He screams. "You've destroyed his hand!"

"I have," he replies coolly.

No fear, no panic.

In this moment, he looks just like Ezra. The resemblance uncanny, the posture just as firm.

"Oh," Reginald laughs bitterly. "I'm going to destroy you, AJ."

"It's Ajax Jax."

My stomach drops, and everyone else's jaw parts.

What is he doing? Ezra's not here yet.

I try to shake my head at him, but he doesn't look at me.

Lydia tilts her head slowly. "Come again?"

"I'm Ajax Jax," he says. "Ezra Jax is my brother."

Lydia snatches the gun from Reginald. "You bastard!"

She cocks it, and just as she's about to shoot, the door slams open as footsteps rush in.

And when I turn…

I see Ezra.

It all happens in slow motion.

Ezra steps in with a gun in each hand, the others follow behind. Our eyes meet. It's soft, longing…yearning.

I'm too busy staring at him that I see the exact moment his eyes widen.

"Wren!!"

Another shot rings out.
