Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 134
Ezra
The silence becomes louder, the tension suddenly growing thicker. Ray gives me a long look, brows drawn close together and then he nods once.
"Okay, we can talk in my office," he says, then turns to everyone else. "Thank you all once again, and that would be all."
Music blasts through speakers, MaryAnne begins screaming, and chatters erupt as I walk behind Ray, his massive shoulders not hard to miss as he saunters down the hallway.
Wren catches up to me. "I think I want to be a part of this."
I slip my hands into hers as we enter Ray's office, clicking his door shut.
"Talk to me." Ray sits, elbows on the desk and hands clasped under his chin. "What's going on?"
Swallowing, Wren and I exchange looks and we take our seats.
"You've been an amazing brother, friend and president to me, Ray," I begin, "but I think I'm done with the MC life."
His neck tilts. "Done?"
"Yea. I...uh...I'm leaving."
"Oh. Wow. I don't...are you sure?" He runs a hand through his hair, then blows out a puff of breath. "Shit, that's fine though. At least you'll still be here, helping me sometimes, right?"
Slowly, my head shakes. "No, Ray. I'm leaving...I'm leaving New Orleans."
I see the exact moment it clicks in his head, his eyes widening to saucers.
Wren slips her hand on my thigh, and then she blows my mind with her next words, "We, Ray...we're leaving New Orleans."
My gaze cuts abruptly to Wren the same time Ray shoots to his feet.
"What? B-both of you?" He sputters. "You're both leaving?"
"Ray." Wren sighs. "I know how it looks, but we need a reprieve, we need to be able to grieve without everything reminding us of our loss...we need a change of scenery, environment."
"I know, I get that... but Christ, Wren. I could handle it when it was just you that left, but now? My sister and my best friend?" He paces. "Where are you guys going? When did you plan this? Were you going to tell me?"
"Of course we were," I interject. "I swear to you, Ray, we'd never do anything behind your back again. I actually just talked to Wren about it today, and here we are...we just need to breathe, to exist without the threats, the memories in these walls...these streets."
He stands by the single window, and looks out wordlessly.
Truthfully, I get how he feels. I can assume the thoughts that are going through his head right now. He's probably at war with himself on whether to stop Wren or not, and also how he's going to lead this MC without me.
"You're going to do great, you know?" I say.
He stiffens. "Huh?"
"I meant it when I said you're an amazing president, and it had nothing to do with me."
He snorts and sighs. "I always thought we'd do this together. Best friends leading side by side until we retire together and pass the baton on."
"A lot has happened these past couple of months..."
"Is it because of the way I treated you? Is that why you're leaving? You can be honest with me."
I walk toward him, placing a firm hand on his shoulder. "That's not why, Ray, I swear it. I never wanted to do this life forever which is why I started on my bars...also, you told me once you'd never let Wren date a biker—"
"You're an exception now."
"It still doesn't change the fact that you'd want someone whose life isn't at risk, someone who wouldn't put her life at risk." I sigh. "We're not leaving immediately because things still need to be sorted, but Ray...you know Wren and I need this."
He gives me a smile that doesn't reach his eyes. "That's exactly why I'm struggling, because I know you both deserve some peace." His smile turns wistful when he looks at Wren. "Chirp?"
She joins us, and he ruffles her hair as he stares at both of us. "You both are really doing, huh?"
I don't reply, but Wren nods. "I love him, Ray. I can't imagine myself with anyone else."
"Me too," I rasp. "Wren is everything to me. I don't know what I'd do without her."
He breathes deep. "I know. Where did you say you'll be going?"
"England."
"Jesus, that's miles away!" His brows shoot up. "Why so far?"
I shrug. "The farther the better."
"And how about your siblings, Hannah, and your mom?"
"My mom's been discharged," I say, appreciating the shock yet relief on their faces.
Wren's lips quiver. "Really?"
"Yes, sweetheart."
A week ago, the email came and we processed everything. Then, three days ago, I picked up my mom from the hospital.
I wanted to take Wren, or to call her and tell her about it but I stopped myself. She wasn't ready, and I didn't want her to feel compelled to come with me.
"So where is she?"
"At Beth's," I reply. "She's with the kids and Ajax too. I haven't told them about the plans to leave yet, but I'll definitely be taking my mom and hopefully Hannah with me."
"Hopefully?" Ray asks.
"Yea." I clear my throat. "She's Mitch's niece, so I have to finally take her to meet her real family. We'll see what they say."
"The same Mitch that broke your legs?"
I nod.
"We'll come with you, EJ," he says. "Just let me know when."
"Thank you...Ray."
Then, he holds out a hand and when I shake him, he pulls me in for a hard, yet warm hug.
"I'm going to miss you, man," his voice is thick. "Though you're my best friend, if you hurt my sister..."
"I'll never, Ray," I cut in with a murmur, "never."
Wren is it for me. There's no other one. She's all I see, all I feel, all I breathe. And when we're both healed and ready, I'm going to make her mine in every way.
He pats my back twice. "Good." And he breaks our hug, pulling Wren to himself.
I watch the interaction while my heart pounds in my chest.
Wren's really coming with me.
For a second, I didn't think I could handle leaving without her. I thought she wouldn't want to, but look at us now...see how far we've come.
Wren wraps an arm around my waist and we stare up at Ray.
He shakes his head, and grimaces. "This will definitely take some getting used to."
Wren blushes and drops her hand.
"Damn." Ray holds up the vest again. "Who's gonna get this?"
"Torch," Wren blurts. "He deserves it."
"Hm."
"She's right. He's been amazing, loyal..." I add.
"Yea, and he has a hard on for Liz."
"Wait what?" I snort. "Torch and Lizzy?"
He nods and grabs some things from his desk. "While you both were busy with...you know...I've been observing them. Although, I think Lizzy is either clueless, or isn't interested."
"Yikes, that'll be horrible." Wren winces.
"I don't know." He shrugs. "But I'm done here. Maybe I'll consider Torch as VP, I'll run it by you, EJ."
"I'll be happy to help."
"So I'm guessing Chirp won't be staying at the clubhouse anymore?"
"Yea." Wren nods. "I'll be going home with Ezra."
Ray visibly shudders. "I don't even want to think about that." We all walk toward the door when he speaks again. "I'll take Quincy and the baby home now. Update me on your movements, okay?"
"Sure."
The door shuts behind us. When everyone sees us, they immediately go quiet, but Ray just waves his hand.
"Any information will be passed soon, I need to take my family home."
"Noted, Prez!" Torch replies for all, sitting at the bar where Lizzy's serving other bikers.
Quincy and Wren talk for a few minutes before she follows Ray out of the clubhouse.
I take her hand and pull her up the stairs. "I think we should get you packed up."
"I'm on board." She giggles.
When we reach her door, I spin her around. Her back lands with a soft thud against the wall, her chest rising and falling rapidly.
And I just stare at her.
The arch of her brows, the slope of her nose, her pretty pink lips and her wide bright blue eyes.
She looks happier now, the light has returned to her eyes, and her smile is more sincere.
I've got my Wren back. I know we've still got things to get over, but we will get through them together.
"We're going to England," I whisper, awestruck.
She smiles softly. "We are."
My knuckles drag across her jaw. "I can't believe it." I murmur, taking in a lungful of her scent.
It feels surreal, like a faraway dream come true. Looking at her, I see my whole world in her eyes.
And I know that it's either her or her.
Nothing else, no in between.
"Ray's okay with us now." She wraps her arms around my neck and tugs me. "There's no where else I'd rather be, baby."
"God, I love you." My forehead presses against hers. "So fucking much."
And with that, I slam my lips against hers.
