Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 79

Ezra

Silence falls.

The way she looks at me breaks something in me. I see her anger on my behalf, her understanding but at the same time...she looks at me like I'm a stranger.

"I get it." She sniffles, wiping her tears. "He deserved it. B-but...you kept this for years, you tailed my family, you used us..."

"I had to do what I could at the time."

"Exactly. You told me once that I don't know you...and you're right." She swallows. "I-I don't know the man I'm in love with. I don't know your thought process, I don't know you, Ezra...and that sucks."

My throat tightens. "You know me now."

"Did...it's crazy I have to ask this again, but after this revelation... Did you kill Tristan?"

I stiffen. "What?"

"Can you blame me for asking?" She wails. "You killed my dad for abusing your mom, you beat up Tristan for laying his hands on me, but...did you kill him?"

"You know the answer to that question, Wren. I have never lied to you. Yes, I've kept things but I have never fucking lied to you."

She shakes her head. "I can't...I can't do this."

My breath hitches.

"You can't do what?"

"I need some space. I need to wrap my head around everything."

"Are you..." I choke out. "Are you breaking up with me?"

She doesn't answer.

Panic flares up my body, heart thumping. "Wren?"

"No," she finally sighs. "I just...I need some time."

"Okay." I swallow thickly. "Okay, I can give you time."

Her blue eyes peer up at me. "I want to leave."

Everything stops in the moment.

"You...want to leave? To where?"

"To Ray's. I can't be near you right now."

"Wren," I beg. "Please, don't do this."

I take her in my arms, and she hugs me. Her hands clutch my shirt and she sobs. I squeeze her, unwilling to let her go.

She can't leave me.

Fuck, I can't imagine this house without her.

"Ezra." She pulls away. I thumb her tears, cupping her jaw as she speaks. "I need you to do something for me me."

"Anything."

"Tell Ray." I freeze at her words. "Tell Ray you killed his dad. Please, let him hear it from you, I can't...I can't tell him."

"Birdie..."

"Please, Ezra. Please."

A lump lodges itself in my throat, and I mange a weak nod. "Would it...would it make you stay?"

Her eyes soften as she shakes her head. "I'm sorry."

Pinching my eyes shut, I back away. I can't look at her, not when she's about to leave me.

"For what it's worth," I rasp. "I didn't want you to find out this way."

At the clubhouse, I was too busy with Ray and so I got the notification late. By the time I walked into the house, I knew she had seen everything.

The pictures, the notes. I ran into this basement with my heart in my throat. And there she was, tears streaming down her face.

It wrecked me, broke me completely.

"I know," she replies softly.

We stare at ourselves across the room. God, this woman. This woman that has weaved her way into my heart, this woman that can tear me apart in few seconds.

I'm irrevocably in love with her, and if she wants to leave...fuck.

"Would you come back?" I ask.

I probably sound pathetic. But if I was sure dropping to my knees would change her mind, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

"Always," she whispers.

Always. She'll always come back.

"How long...How long would you stay at Ray's?"

She shrugs. "I...I don't know yet."

It could be days. It could be weeks...or months.

Fuck, I messed up. I messed up so bad.

So many times I tried to tell her, but the words never made it past my throat. And now, she's found out.

I hate that she had to find out this way.

Maybe if I told her, she wouldn't be planning to leave.

Jaw tight, I nod. "Okay. Th-that's fine. When are you—"

"Now."

My whole world tilts on its axis. The pain that surges up my chest is enough to have my knees nearly giving out.

And when I agree to it, it hurts even more.

I take a sip of the whiskey I've been nursing for almost an hour now.

Wren's upstairs, packing up. I can't bear to see it. Not when I heard her crying earlier.

Fuck, this hurts. I take another sip, allowing the burn to numb the pain I feel. But it doesn't. Nothing can numb it.

Not when I caused it.

The soft click of wheels sound from the stairs and I'm up immediately, helping her with the luggage. When she sees me though, her eyes well up again.

And it absolutely shatters me.

"Hey, baby," I murmur, skimming her face with my knuckles.

She holds my hand, planting a kiss on it.

My chest tightens, nearly caving in.

"I'll be back," she promises. "Let me just sort through the thoughts in my head."

I nod. "Okay. Can I...can I kiss you?"

Her smile is wobbly.

Because she's on a step higher than me, we're almost the same height, so she traces my brows and my scruff.

"You never have to ask," she murmurs.

And that's all I need to plant my lips against hers. The kiss holds a level of desperation that stuns me. It's slow, but it's fierce.

I feel all her emotions through it, the same way I convey all of mine.

I'm sorry.

I should've said something.

Please, don't go...don't leave me.

I'll miss you... I love you.

When a salty tang hits my tongue, I know that she's crying again, and I pull her to my chest.

"I'm so fucking sorry." I hold her almost as tight as she holds me.

We stand in that hug for god knows how long while I fight the tears that threaten to spill from my eyes.

Wren pulls away with a sniffle. "I think we should leave now."

Her voice is thick, rough.

Gulping, I nod and take her suitcase down the stairs.

Donovan, one of the bikers on shift, takes it from me the minute I step out of the house.

"VP!" He greets. "Everything okay?"

"Yes."

I guide Wren into the car. And when her suitcase is all situated in the trunk, I pull out of the driveway into the slowly darkening night.

Wren fiddles with her phone.

"Hey, Ray." She clears her throat. "I'm coming over for a bit...yes, now..." she glances briefly at me. "Ezra will explain when we get there."

My hands tighten on the steering wheel.
