Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 91

Wren

The walk to the garden feels longer than it should. I trail behind Ezra and his mom—who hasn't said anything to me except for my name.

I don't know what to expect but hey, at least I wasn't asked to leave. Not yet.

"Alright guys," the nurse says. "I'll leave you to it. Let me know when you need me." And she walks away.

Other people scatter around in the garden, some with visitors, others with just their nurses enjoying the serenity of nature.

"Sit, Wren." Andrea pats the bench beside her.

My throat closes and I look at Ezra. He just gives a subtle nod, and I perch on the seat.

"Hi," I say softly, heart beating wildly in my chest.

Does she hate me for what my dad did to her? If she does, is it okay to sit beside her?

A bucket load of thoughts race around in my mind, but I force myself to be optimistic.

Andrea Jax is stunning.

Her hair is raven black, high cheekbones and brown eyes that look like melted chocolate.

She's slender, and tall. Just like Elizabeth Jax.

"By the way you're tensed, it's either you know what your dad did to me, or you're terrified of my mental health condition," she says. "Don't worry, I'm not going to stab you."

I flinch. "N-no. I don't think you're going to-to stab me. I'm sorry if I'm giving that kind of—"

"Relax Wren," she urges. "You're fine."

The lump in my throat rolls down.

Ezra cracks a small smile and shakes his head. "Be gentle with her, mom. She's already nervous."

"She's your girlfriend, isn't she?"

"Yea." He nods. "She's nothing like her father, though."

Andrea scans me from head to toe. "You look nothing like him. Maybe just his pale skin, aside from that you must have taken after your mother."

I shrug. "Maybe."

No one speaks again.

Unfortunately for me, I can't reach for Ezra because his mom is between us. But, when I feel a hand at the back of my shoulders, I breathe.

He gives me a small, encouraging smile.

"What are you thinking, Wren?" Andrea suddenly asks.

I blink.

"W-what? Nothing." My nails pick at each other while Ezra keeps brushing my skin, soothing the nerves in the pit of my tummy.

Andrea slips her hand in mine. It's cold, calloused with raised skin on her palms.

"You seem like a sweet girl," she says. "Ezra has spoken about you. When he visits, when he calls...although, he never told me your name. He always called you, Birdie."

Ezra groans. "Seriously, mom?"

"Hush." She pats his thigh. "I guess he didn't want me to figure it out. The thing is, after what happened with your dad, I made sure to know who he was. Found out he had a family—a wife and two kids..."

My hands tighten in hers, and she lifts her brown eyes to mine.

"I'm not angry at you or your brother, Raymond. My son loves both of you, and I know if he was rolling with the Carlisle kids, then you're good people."

It takes a lot to hide my emotions, but I'm not surprised when my lips quiver. "I'm so sorry about what he did to you. You didn't deserve that."

"Not your fault, dear. He's dead now, and that was the kickstart of my healing journey."

"You're so strong."

She snorts. "Far from it. It's been seven years of struggling, battling my demons. Seven years of nightmares, reminders of that day. But his death brought me peace...I'm not there yet, but I'm getting there. For my kids—and grandkids."

Her eyes glaze over, almost like she's reminiscing about the reunion with her family.

"They can't wait to have you back, Ms Jax."

"Please, call me Andrea." She waves me off. "I hope my kids want me back. Jesus, I've not heard from Beth or Ajax in years."

Tears well up in her eyes. "And I miss them, so so much. I understand why they haven't visited. I can't imagine seeing them the way they saw me. Broken, bloodied and ready to end it all."

"Don't do that," I whisper, voice cracking. "They love you."

"I should've tried harder but god, I didn't want to be in this world anymore. I was ruined, soiled...abused—"

A tear drops from her eyes. It lands on our joined hands with a wet plop.

"Mom," Ezra scolds. "You did what you thought was best at the time. We can't understand the pain and thoughts you went through."

"I was selfish! I was ready to leave you all—my beautiful babies—in this messed up world. I was ready to—"

"But you didn't," I cut in. "You're still here. You're getting better. And trust me, they haven't visited or called, but they're rooting for you. They love you."

Her lips wobble and she sniffles. "I see why Ezzy loves you. I'm going to get better, and I'm going to get discharged."

"You will." I squeeze her hand gently. "I believe you and I trust you."

"Me too," Ezra adds.

Suddenly, I'm pulled into a hug. Her lean body wraps around mine, her tears hitting my neck.

I rub her back, ignoring the slight pain in my arm from the jostle.

Ezra's soft gaze rests on me. "Thank you," he mouths.

"I love you," I reply.

When Andrea pulls away, she clears her throat and wipes her eyes.

"Jeez, can't believe I cried in front of my son's girlfriend." She lets out a disbelieving laugh. "Can we start over?"

I laugh at that. "Of course, anything you want."

"Hi." She holds a palm out. "I'm Andrea Jax, Ezzy's mom."

"I'm Wren Carlisle," I giggle. "Ezzy's girlfriend–" Ezra rolls his eyes at the nickname. "You are absolutely gorgeous, Andrea."

Her cheeks redden and she looks away, bashful.

"Aren't you a little sweet talker?"

We both erupt into giggles right there and then.

Ezra's smile is wide, his eyes lighting up. He looks content, and all his earlier tension is gone.

He's...happy.

"1,2,3. Smile!"

We all smile, and the nurse clicks the last photo for the day.

Andrea cheers, grinning from ear to ear. The same way I am.

This visit turned out better than I expected. Andrea is not only gorgeous, but she's smart too. We talked a lot, teased Ezra even more.

He didn't like that.

And now, it's time to go.

The nurse walks us all as far as the lobby, and Andrea's smile turns wistful.

"Give me a hug, Wren." She spreads her arms and I walk into them.

"Thank you," she whispers in my ears. "Thank you for making my son happy. For being his safe space, and thank you for loving him."

I squeeze her tighter. "Thank you for raising him to be the man he is. And thank you for getting better for all of us."

She kisses my cheek and pulls away. "Visit again, Wren."

"I promise."

Ezra goes in for his own hug, and soon enough we're both waving to Andrea until we leave the premises itself.

When Ezra pulls out of the hospital, the ride is quiet. Not the awkward kind, but the peaceful kind.

It's comfortable, and so soft. But one thing I notice is that he never takes his hand off my thigh.

After a good enough distance between us and the hospital, Ezra parks at the side of the road and turns to me.

His gray eyes pierce mine with a light intensity that makes my insides all warm, fuzzy and gooey.

A blush creeps up on my cheeks.

Tucking my hair behind my ear, I bite my lip.

"What is it? You're staring."

"You're perfect," he blurts.

"Oh." My cheeks heat up some more.

"Thank you, Wren. Thank you for bringing your light into my mom's life, for encouraging her with your words."

I stroke the back of his hand, the one on my thigh. "I didn't say anything that wasn't true."

"Don't undermine what you did, sweetheart. You gave her more reasons to fight, to be determined. And the idea of taking pictures to show Beth and AJ? Genius."

My smile widens only slightly. "They deserve proof that she's getting better."

"Exactly. I would never have thought of that."

"Well..."

"When I say you're perfect, baby, don't argue."

A loud laugh bursts from my lips. "Okay, sir."

"Good girl."

And he presses his lips to mine. I return the kiss immediately, opening for him. My stomach dips, and my heart expands in my chest.

There's so much room in my heart for all the Jax's. And there's no place I'd rather be.

Ray will just have to accept us because there's no way, no way in hell, that I'm walking away from this man or his amazing family.

His teeth tugs on my bottom lip, and releases with a soft smack.

"We're going on our vacation tomorrow," he announces.

"Tomorrow?"

"Yes. And I have a surprise for you when we get there."

"Where are we going?"

"Minnesota."

My brows raise. "Okayyy, Mr Itinerary."

"What? You're so weird." He laughs.

"What's the surprise then?"

"Hint," he teases. "It's a person."
