Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 67

Wren

"This is Mitch."

A shudder runs down my spine at the very familiar voice that comes through Ray's speaker.

Clay types on the computer in the backseat.

"Keep him talking," he mouths.

"The president of Outlaws, right?" Ray asks.

"Yes."

He gives me a wide eyed look and I shrug. I don't know what he should say, not when Mitch is being very straight forward.

"EJ!" Torch suggests in a whisper. "Ask about EJ."

"Can I help you? You're wasting my time." Mitch's impatient voice comes in again.

Ray frowns, then caves. "Where's EJ?"

"Who the fuck is that?"

"Ezra Jax."

The line goes quiet, there's a shuffle at the end and then he comes back.

"You must be Ray," he drawls. "Your VP is with me."

"Let him go, Mitch."

"Now, why would I do that? You know what? I have an idea..." More shuffle on the line.

A cough comes in. "Go home, Ray."

Ezra.

My heart jumps in my throat, and I bite down on my tongue, controlling the urge to talk to the man that I've come to love.

"Where are you, Ezra?"

"I'm going to be..." Ezra groans, breath heavy. "I'll be fine."

I sniffle, a whimper slipping past my lips.

He inhales sharply. "Is that Wren?"

"Ezra," I sob.

"Fuck, Ray. Why would you take her with you? Both of you need to go back, I will be fine. Trust me."

Mitch's chuckle comes in next. "You know Ezzy, always reckless. He came in here guns blazing, lasers shooting out of his eyes."

"He thought he could take us, but now he's tied to a fucking chair and you're gonna listen as I break every single bone on his body."

Ray's jaw tightens, and Clay gives him a nod.

I look back as he shuts the laptop, scribbles the location on a paper and heads out of the car.

"You're not going to touch even a damn hair on his body, Mitch."

"Too late."

A crack sounds.

"Ezra!" I scream, tears falling down my face.

"Take Wren home, Ray," he wheezes. "This is messed up."

And the line goes dead.

In less than a minute after that, we're zooming down the the highway, Torch and Clay riding in front while other bikers join us out of no where.

"Oh god, Ray, his leg." Nausea rolls in my tummy, bile creeping up my throat but I shove it down.

Ray gives me a look. "It sounded like a punch that broke his nose, Wren. I'm sure his leg is still fine."

God, I hope so. Oh god.

"Wh-where are they?"

"The pit."

I whimper, wiping my tears. My knees bounce uncontrollably, heart pounding in my chest as we speed down the road.

"Stay in the car, Wren."

"No."

I move to go out when he clicks the locks in place. "Certainly you know I'm not letting you go in there with us."

My eyes sting. "Please..."

He frowns. "Why do you care so much? Thought you hated EJ."

I'm speechless, thrown off guard. With all the anxiety and worry eating up at me, I forgot that I need to keep things on the low.

"I don't hate him," I mutter, sniffing. "I've lived with Ezra for three months now Ray, of course I'll care about him. It's not a big deal."

His eyes narrow, and I steel my spine, jaw tight. Though, my pulse quickens, insides twisting.

After a beat, he straightens. "You're still staying inside, Wren. You'll see him when we bring him out."

He slams the door shut, locking it up again and I sit there, pouting, worried. The cold night air seeps in through the slightly wound down windows.

I use the silence to call Judi. She picks up immediately.

"Wren! Have you found him?"

"Yea," I croak, throat tight. "Ray and the guys are going to get him. I'm just waiting...in the car."

"Oh honey, he's going to be fine."

"I...I told him I love him."

The memories shove their way into my mind, bringing tears to my eyes.

She goes quiet for a bit. "Wh-what did he say?"

I shrug, a bitter chuckle ripping from my throat. "He said I shouldn't, and he walked out. I don't...I don't know why I bother."

"You bother becomes you love him. He means a lot to you."

"But what do I mean to him?"

"Someone like him, I think he's got so many walls, Wren. Maybe he needs some time."

"He could've said that. I'm not asking him to love me back, b-but..."

"I know," she sighs. "I understand what you mean. How about you both focus on having him back—in one piece—then you give it another go."

"I don't think I'd do that again."

He interrupted me twice, and when I finally mustered up some needed courage to say it, he just...left.

Choosing to die instead.

My eyes are fixed on the corner the guys disappeared into. No sign of anything or anyone in this race track.

"That's fine too."

We don't say anything for a while, I go to check the time on my phone but refrain when my brain refuses to cooperate.

"What's the time Judi?"

"That'll be 1027 p.m for you."

I frown. It's been almost twenty minutes. No single sound, nothing.

"Okay, thank you—" I catch movement. "Oh god, I think they're here."

"Let me know when—"

Jamming my thumb on the red button, I wince. I didn't mean to hang up like that, but I'll apologize later.

The car beeps and I'm flinging the door open, running towards the guys.

Colour drains from my face as I see Ray and Torch struggle to hold up a very bloody Ezra. Behind them, the guys are dragging someone else.

"Oh my god," I choke out.

Ezra frowns. "You should've stayed at home, Birdie." He coughs, then winces.

All the things I want to say, the hug I want to give him...I can't. My hands itch to fuss over him, to brush the blood from his skin, to check for injuries but...Ray.

And that hurts more than I'd like.

"Y-your legs?" I ask instead, lips quivering.

His gaze softens. "Intact, I promise."

As Ezra is helped into the car, I can't help but flip on the lights and I instantly regret it.

"Ez-Ezra," my voice is broken, eyes welling.

Jesus, he looks battered.

Cheeks scraped and bloody, knuckles busted, lip spilt. Caked blood gathers beneath his nostrils, and I reach out, but stop myself in time.

His lips lift slightly in a somewhat reassuring but crooked grin.

"You should see the other guy."
