Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 156
Wren
[Seven Months Later]
A wave of contraction hits me for the third time, and I grip the edge of the island, turning off the gas.
"Mommy?" Hannah prods.
I look up at her, red-faced, and I choke out, "Call daddy."
Her eyes widen and she reaches for my phone, punching Ezra's number and placing it on loudspeaker.
He picks up immediately. "My darling, I was just about to call and ask if you need any—"
"Babe," I grit out.
The line goes quiet for a bit. "Is everything okay?"
"We need to go to the hospital."
"Daddy, mommy's in pain," Hannah adds, her voice breaking.
"I'm on my way. Where's grandma, Hannah?"
"She went to see her friend."
"Okay." He inhales sharply. "I'll be there in less than five minutes, Wren. Do you need me to stay on the line?"
I shake my head, and Hannah speaks for me. "She says 'no'."
"Alright."
The call ends, and so does the contraction. It gives me some breathing room and I manage to scoop out food for Hannah before waddling to the living room and taking a much needed breather.
The breaths come out of me in pants and I rub my belly. "What's going on in there, baby?" I speak to my belly.
Hannah eats slowly, her eyes meeting mine every four seconds, the worry evident in her posture.
So, I offer a smile and blow her a kiss. I see how she breathes out in relief, and focuses entirely on her food.
Time goes by fast without another contraction, and just as I hear Ezra's car pull into the driveway, another wave squeezes my belly.
The door bursts open and Ezra rushes to my side. "Wren..."
I squeeze my eyes shut, hands clenched at my side. "H-hospital, p-please..."
His hands gently tug me up and I manage to reopen my eyes. "Wait, wait, wait..." I hiss. "Let this pass."
"Okay, okay." He lets me go. "Did you call Doctor Lisa?"
I shake my head.
Worry fills his eyes, lips tucked between his teeth as he stares helplessly at me.
"Oh dear, Wren darling." I hear Andrea's voice and she quickly comes into view. "Is everything—"
"I think she's having contractions," Ezra says.
He's been very attentive at the antenatals, never misses an appointment or a session with our OBGYN. He's the sweetest.
"But she's not due. We still have a month and then some."
He nods. "Yes mom. But I'm taking her to the hospital."
"I'm ready." I breathe out as the pain subsides, stretching my hands out. Ezra and Andrea grab onto one and tug me up.
"Hannah, stay with grandma okay? We'll be back soon."
"Okay daddy. Bye mommy."
I manage a wave and a quiet, "I love you.", before walking out of the house with my weight completely on Ezra.
Thankfully, I made an effort to look nice today since I was feeling good. And now, this.
He places me gently in the car, shuts the door and rushes to his own side.
During the ride, I experience two extra contractions which fuels Ezra's speed as he drives us to the hospital.
Immediately we arrive—at the hospital I work at—we call my OBGYN and she ushers us into one of the hospital wards.
Ezra takes a seat, while she gestures for me to undress and lie back on the bed as she draws the curtains across my waist, blocking Ezra's view.
"If it isn't my favourite pregnant nurse, and my very attentive student." Lisa, our doctor, grins at me and Ezra. "Did you time the contractions?" She snaps on some gloves.
My cheeks heat. "No, I forgot."
She snorts.
"Although it feels like the contraction times get shorter and shorter."
"Yea?" She grabs a lube and wiggles it between her gloved fingers. "How's the pain?"
"Intense." My jaw clenches when the pain begins again. "Th-this is another one, oh g-god."
"Breathe, Wren."
I hear a shuffle and Ezra comes into view, kissing my forehead. "Deep breaths baby, let's go."
"In."
I inhale, jaw tight from the pain.
"Out."
I exhale.
"You're doing great, baby."
We do our breathing exercises, something I'd forgotten. Lisa is right, Ezra's her most attentive student.
All the knowledge I learned in nursing school and antenatal appointments just disappears from my brain. And I can only rely on my amazing husband.
We do this until it passes and I can finally feel my toes.
"Good?" Lisa asks, watching with the calm expression on her face.
I nod.
"Alright, please lift the gown." She looks above me. "Mr Jax, please sit back."
"Right, I'm sorry."
And Lisa gets back to work, pushing around in there. It's really awkward and not at all pleasant.
But it doesn't take too long either.
When she's done, she looks at both of us and she delivers the news.
"Your baby is coming, Wren. You're already in labour."
[Two Days Later]
Chatters zoom in and out of my ears.
A squeak of a chair.
A murmur here and there.
Footsteps.
Slowly, things start to make sense in my head.
"Still asleep?" Someone whispers.
"Mhm," another answers—sounds like my husband—"she wakes up but not really focused."
"And the baby?"
"Oh, the nurses just latch him onto a nipple, and he sucks." A chuckle follows. "He's fine, we're just waiting for momma to wake up properly."
"He's so adorable." Another voice comes in.
"He's got those Jax curls."
"I'm so surprised you guys came, damn Ray."
My brain catches onto that name.
Ray.
As in Raymond?
It's a struggle to open my eyes, but when I do, I regret it immediately, slamming them shut again.
"Too much light!" Those are the first words out of my mouth.
Immediately, the room is covered in soft darkness. I try again, and I'm grateful for the dark curtains pulled into place.
My bed is crowded, people looking down at me.
And when I see them, my jaw drops.
Ray, Judi, Beth, Quincy, Lizzy, Torch, Ajax, Andrea, Hannah ... Christ, they're all here. With balloons, flowers, gifts.
"Oh my god," I gasp, sitting upright despite the discomfort I still feel. "What? You guys...what?"
I look around for one person I've not seen. "Where's my—"
"Oh my goodness, can I have some room to see my wife?" Ezra grumbles from the back of Ray, his curls being the only thing I see.
There he is.
A wide smile breaks on my face when they part for him. And then, my eyes fill with tears when I take him in.
He's shirtless and holding our baby—who's only in a diaper—to his chest.
He dips down and kisses my forehead, placing our baby on my chest. "Hey there, momma."
"Hi there, dada."
"I'm so proud of you," he murmurs, still leaning over me. "You were so amazing. I know you don't remember much of it yet, but I was there, you were perfect."
My bottom lip juts out, and I look down at my sleeping baby with a full head of dark curls. "We did it."
"No, you did it. My strong, super woman."
I just stare at this wonderful man that I'm so lucky to have, and he kisses me.
"Congratulations, you guys!" Judi grins.
And everyone joins in.
I spot Hannah staring, and I pat the bed. Her eyes light up and she shuffles quickly on it with Ezra's help.
"You're a big sister," I tell her. "Are you excited?"
Her smile widens and she nods rapidly, touching his curls. "Yes, yes I am."
I am too, Hannah darling.
My gaze finds everyone as they talk to me and between themselves.
"You guys know you didn't have to come all the way, right?" I say.
All the chatter stops.
"What?" Ray frowns.
"I mean, we could always do a video call. Flights are expensive."
Judi sighs dramatically. "It's because we love you, dummy."
"Yea." Ray agrees. "All of us here heard about the first loss, we were devastated. Few of us actually witnessed it. Of course, we would fly down here to celebrate the new addition."
"We were there for the grief, and we'll be here for the joy." Quincy pats my leg.
Lizzy nods in agreement.
"You're the best daughter-in-law I could've asked for," Andrea says.
"Enjoy the title for now, Wren," Judi interjects. "Very soon there'll be another Mrs Jax."
Ajax blushes but wraps a possessive hand around her waist. "She's not wrong."
We all laugh at that, everyone hooting and cheering.
Yes, they finally got together after so much unnecessary delay.
And as the nurses come and go, my family stays. Somehow, these people have been there for me through it all, without question.
I don't know who I'd be without this amazing support system.
I listen to their conversations, I join in too. It's laughter, it's stories, it's chaos...the good kind.
Then I find my husband, Ezra Jax, my biggest supporter. He stands beside the bed, making sure my hair is alright, and that I'm properly covered.
All this while engaging in the conversation around us. I don't think he knows he's doing it.
That's how perfect he is.
When he catches my gaze, he smiles, proud...content. "I love you."
"I love you."
"Wait!" Judi exclaims.
And then, the conversation abruptly stops.
Her eyes narrow at us. "What's his name?"
Ezra and I look at each other again, and I give him a nod to go ahead with the name.
"His name is...Hudson. Hudson Jax."
"Hannah, Hayden, and Hudson," Lizzy repeats. "That's amazing."
Torch pats Hudson's back softly as he murmurs...
"Welcome to the world, Huddy."
