Falling For The Biker: The Vice President's Girl Chapter 57

Wren

"Oh, honey..." My bottom lip juts out as Hannah sniffles, a tear rolling down her cheeks. "Come here."

She runs into my arms and I pick her up, giving her a long hug.

"I'll come back before you know it," I whisper. "I promise. I'll make sure your daddy brings me back."

"T-tomorrow?"

Ezra gives a subtle shake of his head, but I see how it breaks him. Noah stands beside Beth, not seeming to care either way.

Hannah and Noah are so different. But their difference makes everything better.

When Ezra and I arrived at Beth's late last night, I didn't expect Hannah to be all over me the next morning. We spent the whole day together with Noah chipping in whenever he feels like it.

It was a perfect day, and now we're leaving but Hannah doesn't want me to.

And I don't want to leave her either.

"Look at me," I urge. "How about you and I plan a special hangout few weekends from now. I'll stay the whole weekend with you."

Her big blue eyes widen. "Really?"

"Yes." I look at Ezra who just shrugs. He's no help whatsoever. "And you'll read more stories to me."

Blonde pig tails bob on an enthusiastic nod. "Okay, Aunt Wren."

Ugh! She's adorable.

I give her forehead a small kiss, and when we're done wiping her tears, she slides down my body and hugs her dad goodbye.

"Wow," Ezra mutters as we wave, getting into the car. "She cried for you, but all I get is hug that pretty much says 'bitch, be gone.'"

Laughter spills from my lips. His words take me by utter surprise and I can't help the loud cackle that continues the more the words play in my head.

"You're so silly," I snort.

He glances at me with a grin, and goes back to facing the road.

I turn up the music in the car as we drive, singing at the top of my lungs.

Ezra joins in seconds later, and we're driving down the road, windows up as we scream out the lyrics—well, our own made up lyrics, anyway.

It's at this moment I know that Ezra and I? We're good together.

My brain finally catches up with my heart, and I realise...I might just be in love with him.

Maybe he doesn't love me. Maybe he's on his way there.

But what I do know is that I won't let my heart be broken twice in the space of some months.

Tristan is nothing but a past memory, and I'm not making any negative choices based on the hurt he caused.

But what I do know is that I won't give my heart out entirely to Ezra, unless it's what he wants...and until he's ready for it.

My smile is wide, the air conditioner cooling my skin. And when Ezra winks at me...everything feels right in the world.

We'll go as slow as he wants to. No pressure. But while at it, I'll make sure to have a good time.

"What?!" I frown. "What the hell is the pit?"

Ezra pinches his eyes shut. "Wren, come on. I'm going to be late."

"That's on you. Why do I have to go to Ray's? And why are you going to a pit?"

"The pit," he corrects.

"A pit, the pit, it's the same damn thing."

"You're really gonna have me explain myself to you?" He raises a brow.

I cross my arms, tapping my feet impatiently. "Start talking."

"I could get used to this." He chuckles. "The pit is an underground motorcycle track."

"So you're going racing? But you don't ride."

"I'm not racing. I'm only going there—"

"Why?"

"Fuck me," he snorts. "Ray and I are going there... for business."

That's a whole load of bullshit if I've ever heard one, and he knows that I know.

"It's almost 8 p.m."

"I see that. Wren, please can we just go?"

"Not until you tell me—"

I yelp, my words get cut off when Ezra throws me over his shoulders.

Not this again.

He pats my bum as he strides down the stairs and out of the house while I sag against him, not even bothering to cuss him out.

Of all people my heart chose, it's this annoying, infuriating yet sexy barbarian.

With a sigh, I grip my phone tightly as he strides toward the car.

After we got home, showered together and ate, we slept, until I was rudely woken up.

Actually, he was sweet about it.

But still.

When I'm deposited into the car like a sack of potatoes, I huff. He drops my flip-flops by my feet and gets into the driver's seat.

Then, a long sigh expels from his lungs.

"I'm dropping you off with Quincy because Ray said so," he says.

I shrug, not responding.

That's not what I want to know.

He pulls out of the driveway, another sigh leaving his lips.

"Okay fine," he grumbles. "Ray and I have our eyes on one of the men that set the clubhouse on fire."

I pinch my eyes shut. "Oh god."

"Yea. They have to know they can't do shit like that and go scot-free."

"What are you going to do to him?"

He shrugs. "An eye for an eye."

A horrified look crosses my face, jaw dropping in bewilderment. "You're going to set him on fire?!"

"What? God, no!" He scoffs. "Even though that would be the perfect revenge, but no. Just a little warning."

"What kind of warning?"

"I'm not telling you that, but it involves fire."

My stomach churns. "So you're setting his family on fire."

"Wren," he snorts. "No one will be set on fire, I promise. Just...drop it, okay? Chit-chat with Quincy, do weird girl stuff but please...don't let her give you any silly ideas."

I give him a blank stare. "You're trying to take my mind away from the havoc you and Ray are about to cause."

His lips press together, and I sigh.

My chest tightens with worry, mind spinning with everything that could go wrong.

"Are you-are you going to ride?" I ask.

"No. I'm driving Ray and I there."

"What of your leg? Won't it hurt?"

He looks over at me, brows furrowed and slowly, the car crawls to a stop two houses away from Ray's.

"Hey, sweetheart," he calls softly.

When my eyes meet his, he softens completely, cupping my face.

"I'll be fine, love."

A shaky breath leaves my lips. "I mean, I know. You're like this invincible enforcer, and normally, I wouldn't worry this much but..."

"But things have changed between us. I know, Birdie. Come here."

He hugs me over the console, his fingers brushing my hair gently.

"I'll be back before midnight, okay?" He murmurs in my ear, breath fanning across my earlobe. And he breathes me in.

I close my eyes, his scent wrapped around me. "Be safe out there, babe."

Tilting my chin up, his lips envelope mine in a long, deep kiss. I tug on the hair at his nape, my other hand brushes through his beard.

He groans into my mouth, his heart thumping beneath my palms, almost as fast as mine.

"Trust me, coming home to you is always at the forefront of my mind. I wouldn't let anything happen to me...or you." He gives a firm peck.

My eyes flutter open, and I breathe in relief. "Okay...okay, text me."

He snorts. "Like you'd be able to read it."

"Oh, fuck you."

We burst into laughter while he drives the remaining blocks down to Ray's driveway. My chest expands with relief.

He'll be fine.

As he tries to park, a devious idea pops into my mind and I act on it, sliding my hand up his thighs.

He jerks with a hiss, the horn blaring loudly.

"Jesus, Wren. What are you doing?"
