Chapter 5

As I was coming to from passing out, I heard my father talking.

“What do you mean she’s a Lycan? How is that even possible?” My father asks before looking at my mother. She looks back at him and I see anger in her eyes.

“Don’t you dare look at me that way! I have always been faithful to you. Damnit I was a virgin when we found each other.” Before my father could say anything, my mate spoke again.

“Freya is your daughter. Your mate is telling the truth, also I know that she is your biological daughter. I smelled a part of both of you in her and your son’s scent. That is why instead of coming here and killing all of you, I was able to be calm. The only reason I lost my temper was because that kid was too close to my mate for my wolf and Lycan’s tastes.”

“Your maj...I mean Alex, how long will her first shift last? It has already been hours and she still hasn’t transformed.” I looked up at him wanting to know the answer to that question as well. He keeps rubbing my hair which is helping with the pain, but again a scream escapes me and that makes everyone look at me. My mother is barely containing her tears and my father is worried.

“I’m sorry.” I sob as the tears fall from my eyes.

“Why are you sorry?” My mate looks down into my eyes.

“I’m sorry for causing all of you so much pain and worry. I didn’t mean for this to happen. Is there a way for me to stop this? Is there a way for me to stop myself from becoming a Lycan?” After asking the question, I immediately regretted it because I feel my mate tense and when I look into his eyes there is hurt. “I’m sorry Alex. It is just the pain talking. I just want this to be over.” He looks at me before mind-linking me.

“You’re lying but that’s okay only this once because you’re in pain but understand that you will never do it again.” I blush knowing that he caught me in the lie and put my head down. He cuts the link before I can respond then looks at my parents before speaking again.

“The time can vary, so I am not sure. It took my Beta about nine hours, my Gamma was five and a half hours, my mother and father were the longest at ten hours until I came along.”

“If you don’t mind me asking, how long was your shift?” my father asks. My mate and his Beta exchange glances and then he looks at me and puts a sad smile on his face while he strokes my hair.

“My shift lasted way longer. I rather not say until her shift is over. She doesn’t need the added stress. Right now we are going to need more cool water and pray to the Moon Goddess that hers is not as long as mine.” He looks down at me and smiles and I look away from him. Why won’t he say how long his shift took? This must mean that it was bad. Why am I a Lycan though? Both of my parents are of Alpha blood, but they are both regular wolf shifters. There is no Lycan in either of them, and I would know because I’ve seen them both shift and I’ve smelled them. There is no scent of Lycan on either of them. My mother leaves and returns ten minutes later with water and more clothes to dip in the cool water. She wipes my forehead and cheeks then moves down to my arms and legs. During all the talking and excitement and pain, I am just now realizing that I am naked in the arms of my mate and a slight blush comes over my cheeks.

“Is there any chance of me getting some clothes or something to put over me?” My mate looks down at me and then at his Beta.

“Don’t look at me. You know we have nothing with us. I don’t think you want me to take my pants off to cover her.” He chuckles at my mate. I know he is enjoying teasing him and it makes me giggle. Alex looks down at me and a genuine smile comes on his face. He really is the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen.

“I have a blanket to cover her with for now. Freya you know clothes are not an option at this point, because you’ll just shred them.” I nod in understanding.

“Alex, can you let me go for a little while. I’m starting to feel uncomfortable and itchy again. I need to move out of this position.” Slowly his arms let go of me and I try to sit up and stretch my arms and legs. It feels so good stretching my limbs and I yawn feeling the exhaustion all over my body. When this is over, I am going to need a good, long, hot shower. My muscles ached and so did my head. I may need some headache medicine as well.

“Mama, can you help me stand up please?”

“Of course, darling.” She helps me get up and keeps the blanket secure around my body. I know they are my parents and Alex is my mate, but his David is none of those things. As shifters nudity is a natural thing and we’ve all seen each other naked on some occasion, well all but me since I’ve never shifted, but that still doesn’t mean I want random people seeing me naked.

“Mate and I will shower together. That will be so nice.”

“Yes, showering with our mate will be fun.”

“Gross mom! I don’t want to hear about you and daddy showering together.”

My mom looks at me confused. “Honey, I didn’t say anything about showering with your father. And by the way, nothing is wrong with us showering together. You’ll learn about that soon enough.” She starts to laugh and my father chuckles. My mate looks a little embarrassed and that makes his Beta, and my parents laugh even harder. When the laughter dies down, my mother looks at me and her head cocks to the side.

“What is it mom?” She puts a finger to her lips to get me to be quiet and I wait. A few seconds later a smile comes across her lips and then a look of shock. “Mom, you’re scaring me. What is it?”

“Honey, I was not the one that said anything about showering with her mate. I need you to close your eyes and tune out everything else. Listen carefully.” I look at her confused then just shrug and close my eyes doing as she says.

“Hello Freya. My name is Seraphina. I am your wolf counterpart. I’ve been waiting to meet you.”

“Hello Seraphina. I’ve been waiting to meet you too. Do you know how much longer this shifting will be, because I’m in a lot of pain here.”

“I am sorry Freya, that is my fault. My name is Celestia. I am your Lycan counterpart. You see if it were just Seraphina coming through, you would have been done hours ago. Lycans tend to take more time and thus cause more pain. I will do my best to take some of it from you, but please understand that the pain is needed in order to transform properly otherwise the transformation can kill you.” says Celestia.

“She is right. I will also try to take on some of the pain. Lean on our mate for extra strength. I’m sorry but this will be tiring and very painful even with the pain we take away. Get ready. More pain is about to come.” Seraphina says.

After saying that the pain comes back full force and I scream. Alex holds me tighter, but it hurts more than it helps at this point. I squirm in his arms as the heat spreads through my body. They are all talking to me and trying to give me encouragement but none of it is heard through my screams. I moved out of his arms crawling away from him. Moving hurts, but it is like my body has a mind of its own at the moment. Nothing makes sense. My eyesight gets sharper and clearer and goes from being in color to black and white. My hearing is picking up on every little noise and making my head hurt. The wind feels good as it blows a little stronger now. My nose lifts into the air sniffing and I can tell that a storm is approaching. Great. Now I’ll be wet and in pain.

“Alex.” I pant out his name. He is by my side in an instant. “Alex, I need you t-t-t to tell me how long your shift lasted.” He looks at me with a worried look then starts to say something when another scream rips from my throat.
