“You’re right about that.”

“Wait..didn’t you say that there were two little boys? What happened to the other one?”

“They visited one summer and the boys were battered and bruised and near death according to what my mother told us. They were taken straight to the infirmary and their mother was not in good shape either. I can remember my mother telling us when we were older that her biggest regret is that they did nothing. They are all Lycans of course but wolf shifter laws prohibited us from taking in anyone from another pack without the Alpha of both packs’ permission. As you know, Tobias was not going to give his permission, so if they did leave and stayed in our pack, Tobias had every right to take them back and by force if he so chose. I’m glad the rules have changed, but some packs still deal in the old ways. Red River is one of those packs. Women are to be seen and not heard, including the Luna. They are to produce heirs, cook, clean, and under no circumstances are they allowed to learn to fight. You can find your mate and be with them, but you cannot mark them. They want the women to be able to mate with as many males as possible because that means more babies which means a bigger pack.”

“You have got to be kidding me. They actually operate that way?” The door suddenly opened and in walked Dylan with David right behind him.

“Yes, your majesty, that is exactly how the pack is and also the reason my mate died. The spell that went wrong was to change the minds of those with that caveman and bigoted mentality. As for my brother, he died in that infirmary and my mother was killed shortly after we returned to our pack. I just came in to thank you again for listening to me, your majesty. Now I shall take my leave. Something is brewing and I do not plan on being around when it happens. I’m moving to Italy and might even live among those humans for a while until I find somewhere to live permanently.” After that, he bows to Alex and then turns and walks out of the office. David turns and leaves as well saying that he is going to get what he needs to go and deal with the Red River pack. I knew it would be bad under his leadership, but not that bad.

“He was always a spoiled brat, but I never thought he would do that to his own pack. Something is wrong with him, and I hope David gets there and deals with him severely. I will not tolerate more women and children being abused. Hopefully David doesn’t kill him after what he has been going through dealing with his own mate.”

“Shayla is doing better with therapy and in time so will the others.” I simply nod.

“I’m going to go and finish helping Renee then I’ll be back to shower and change before dinner. I love you.” I kiss his cheek and go to leave, but he pulls me back to him and kisses me passionately. A soft moan leaves my lips as he pulls away.

“I love you too. I’m going to my office to finish some paperwork, and I’m sure there are some documents that David will need me to approve before he leaves. I’ll see you for dinner.”

Renee and I worked so long that we didn’t realize how late it was until Ethan showed up to escort us back to the castle. I figured he came because he was worried about Renee because I know that once Alex starts diving into all the paperwork he has to deal with that he tends to forget about me. I’m not upset about it because honestly, I knew all of this before knowing we were mates. My father and mother dealt with a ton of paperwork, being Alpha and Luna, so I can only imagine that the work he has to do is times a thousand.

We get back to the castle and say our goodbyes once we take the elevator to our respective floors. Normally I would take the stairs, but after the day I’ve had, I decided to use the elevator. Today was made particularly long by all the new people that seemed to keep showing up. I didn’t know there were that many people living outside of the castle walls. Not knowing that kind of information is not making me look well as the future leader of this kingdom. I make a personal note to resume my lessons with Alex’s mom as soon as things settle down a bit more. His mother and father have been wonderful in helping to run the kingdom while we help rebuild the kingdom.

After a shower and a change of clothes, I head out to meet Alex for dinner. When I reach the dining hall, I don’t see him and start to wonder if he ate already and went back to his office. My wolf and Lycan both whimper at that thought. “Girls I don’t think he would do that without telling us. He could just be running late.” I say to them and just decide to proceed to the table. Ethan and Renee and chatting about something and so are Shayla and David, so I stay quiet, so as not to disturb them. I smile watching them, so happy that my best friend found her mate and is happy. She deserves to be happy. I only wish I knew what she was going through back then with her parents.

Deep in thought, I almost missed the heavenly scent of my mate, as he wrapped an arm around my shoulders and kissed my cheek. Automatically I stood up and kissed him deeply almost forgetting for a minute that there were a ton of people in the room with us. I pulled back and a blush came onto my cheeks. “I’m guessing I was missed.” he says to me with a smirk on his face.

“You’re always missed babe. How is the paperwork going? Do you need me to help with anything?” He runs a hand over his face as he sits in his chair and pulls me into his lap.

“The paperwork is going well with father’s help. I’ll be glad once all the request forms and supply papers are all filed so I can just worry about running the packs. I’ll also be glad when we’ve captured Bellevue. This time he will be executed. I messed up being lenient but that won’t happen again.”

In this matter, all I can do is shake my head in agreement. He allowed him to live because of his daughter and ex-mate but kidnapping the witch and escaping only made things worse for him. Even if I wanted to, and I don’t, I know that even I couldn’t change Alex’s mind at this point.
