The Lycan King and His Mysterious Luna Chapter 83
At the palace, everyone was eating and drinking and just having a good time. There was a space carved out for dancing and another area with tables and chairs for people to sit and enjoy the food. Nobody seemed to have a care in the world, but little did they know of the danger that was lurking deep in the woods waiting to pounce at the height of the moon. Their world would be forever changed this night. The people greeted their future Queen as she passed them in the crowd, and she did her best to keep a genuine smile on her face. Her friends and family were all laughing, talking, and having fun, which is what she wanted, but she could not shake the feeling that something bad was going to happen. Her wolf and Lycan stayed on high alert even with all the extra patrols put in place. Freya refused to let her mate be taken from her or have any more people get hurt.
Alexander quickly showered and dressed for the party. He could hear the guests laughing and enjoying themselves downstairs in the courtyard. Unfortunately, he could also feel the anxiety of his mate through their bond. Earlier he told her not to worry and to just try to have fun, but apparently that advice didn’t work. He would be lying if he said that he wasn’t worried about the premonition he had or the situation with Bellevue in general, but he was hoping for at least one night of fun. Once he put on the cologne that she loved on him, he headed out of his bedroom and down to the area where the party was being held. People bowed when he passed them, and he greeted them all.
The party was in full swing, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, but Alex was only worried about one person, and he needed to find her. As he made his way through the crowd, he picked up her scent and started to follow when a sudden pain shot through his body. It didn’t last long and vanished as quickly as it came, but it made him stop in his tracks. “What the hell was that?” he muttered to himself. While in thought, Freya made her way to him after picking up his scent and wrapped her arms around his waist. She felt the pain, but it lasted only a second or two, so she thought nothing of it. “Maybe he bumped into something.” she thought to herself.
They danced and talked to their friends as the night went on and they were all relaxed. Nothing had happened and everyone was having a good time. The patrols checked in with David and Ethan and said that all was quiet. Drinks and amazing food were served, there were games for the children, and there was even a mini fireworks show. At a quarter to midnight, when the moon was scheduled to be at its highest, is when all hell broke loose.
An explosion came from the area near the dance floor and within seconds there were bodies and debris flying everywhere. A huge cloud of black smoke circled the area and the silhouettes of six figures could be seen within the smoky haze. Alex held on tight to Freya as they waited for the smoke to clear. David shouted for everyone to get inside the castle and Ethan called for the army to assemble. The Coven of Light witches that were not injured came forth and stood behind David and Ethan as they flanked Alex and Freya. Alex leaned down and kissed Freya on the lips before whispering in her ear, “Remember what I told you. No matter how hard it may be, you must put me down if it means keeping our people safe.” Tears came to her eyes and she couldn’t speak. She kept shaking her head no and saying that she couldn’t hurt him. He turned his back on the enemy, and grabbed her by the arms tightly, but not tight enough to really hurt her. “Freya, this is not about you or me. Being a ruler means putting our people first, and if that means harming me to do so then you will most certainly do that when the time comes. I could never forgive myself if I hurt these people, and i would never forgive you if you let me. You wouldn’t be able to forgive yourself either if you stood by and did nothing. Under no circumstances are you to let Bellevue take over the kingdom. We don’t have time to keep arguing about this, now promise me you’ll do what is necessary to keep everyone safe.” She looks into his eyes and knows that she should tell him yes, but her heart won’t let her, and tears fall down her face. “Damnit Freya! Do not make me command you. You know I promised to never do that, but I will if you do not promise me right now!” He yells at her and makes her jump. She has never been scared of him, and even at this moment she still isn’t scared.
“I promise that I will do whatever is necessary to keep everyone safe.” When she looks at him, he can feel the anger rolling off of her in waves, but he can tell through the bond that she isn’t angry at him. Her eyes start to turn red at the corners and her powers start to come to the service. The air begins to crackle all around her and electricity shoots through the air. For some reason this ignites his powers, and he feels them moving through his body combining with hers. The electricity mingles in the air, her energy is blue while his is a blinding white, but both are powerful. The people standing behind them back up a bit, and the Coven of Light witches begin chanting a protection spell to keep those inside the castle and surrounding areas safe.
The black smoke had finally cleared and there stood Bellevue, four dark witches, and Tabitha who looked bored. Bellevue is the weakest link out of all of them but taking him out isn’t something that Alex wanted to do, and neither did Freya. They planned on having him stand trial for every crime he has committed and then serve his sentence. He would be dealt with last, so Alex moved his attention to Tabitha, whom he could tell had grown in power but was still not more powerful than he was, then again nobody was except for the Moon Goddess herself. Last but not least were the dark witches and he had faith that the light witches could take care of them. Building a strategy to take them all out took only a matter of seconds as Bellevue stepped forward to speak.
“Give up the kingdom and your title as Lycan King, and I will consider letting your mate live. She can maybe be one of the maids or something useful. Tell me, would that please you to know that she is alive?”
“I’d rather be dead than serve you or anyone that follows you!” Freya yelled at him. The electricity surrounding her crackled more and Alex put his arm around her shoulders pulling her in slightly to calm her.
“I think you heard my mate, besides, what makes you think that we will just hand over our kingdom? And even if we did, do you really think the people would follow you? I mean those that don’t think like you.” said Alex.
“Oh, they won’t have a choice but to follow me just as you don’t have a choice about giving up the kingdom. I will be taking over whether you like it or not tonight. I only asked as a curtesy, since our families have been friends for years.”
Alex laughs without a hint of humor in his voice. “You were never a friend to anyone. You used anyone, including your own daughter, to try to get what you want, and even she stopped listening to you because you're insane. You’re just like Tobias, both of you want something that does not belong to you. Tell me, what right do you think you have to the throne?”
“Anyone has more right to the throne than you and your family. First there was your crazy ancestor and his council doing all kinds of criminal things to the people, and now you with your radical ways. Nobody wants to start seeing everyone as equal. Why would we want to conform to thinking that way when we all know that Lycans are the superior race? Though you and your parents would have us think otherwise and accept mate bonds with them like you did with my daughter and that mongrel Beta.” A loud growl came from Freya and fur started to sprout from her arms.
“I warn you Bellevue, say anything else about wolves or my old pack and you won’t be breathing too much longer. You’re only still breathing because of your ex-mate and daughter so watch what you say.” Her growls were coming out louder and louder, but Alex rubbed her arm to calm down her wolf and Lycan. Seraphina and Celestia were both ready at the surface and so were his wolf and Lycan, Khal and Stryker.
“Little girl I am not afraid of you. Besides, you’re not even a true Lycan. Who ever heard of a dormant Lycan? You and your brother are both freaks of nature. There have been plenty of Lycans that have lost mates, yet their wolf and Lycan remain intact, but your mother lost a psycho mate and her Lycan left her. That should say something about your bloodline. We don’t want a weak Queen leading our people.” The next moment happened so fast that even Alex couldn’t stop her. Freya quickly shifted into her wolf and lunged at Bellevue taking a chunk out of his side. He shifted and went into a defensive stance as his wolf and Lycan started to heal his wound.
The two wolves circled each other, Freya’s huge silver wolf with blue tips growled loudly snapping her jaws at Bellevue. Suddenly rogue Lycans started to emerge from the forest as the patrols ran after them shifting and biting off their heads in midair. Nobody had time to figure out where the rogues came from or how they got in, but the patrols seemed to be taking care of the situation. A second wave started to come in and they were beginning to become overwhelmed when the elite warriors ran into the fight. What was once a beautiful party scene turned into a bloody massacre.
