Alex’s POV

I was sitting at the dinner table with Freya’s parents, my beta, gamma, and my Gamma’s mate. I think her name is Renee or something close to that, but honestly, I wasn’t paying much attention. There was something about her that didn’t sit well with me but if he is happy and she doesn’t cause trouble, then I am happy for him. As I wait for my mate to show up for dinner, I smelled her scent upstairs a while ago, I talk to my future in-laws about the issues going on and the fact that we have to do everything we can to keep my mate safe until we can solve the rogue issue.

Finally she comes downstairs and I can hear my wolf and Lycan purr in excitement. We continue talking, but I can smell her scent way before she reaches the dining hall. As she enters, I see Renee’s smile falter a bit and she leaned more into her mate who pulls her in close to his side. Before I can think too much about it, my mate walks next to me and sits down. She looks at her parents who give her a look and she seemed to accept whatever it means before she looks up and Renee is watching her. I take the time to fill her plate with food and then my own before eating. The food here has been absolutely delicious but still not better than my chefs at the palace though there was a lemon cake that was served for lunch that was mouthwatering.

Renee says something to my mate and the response my mate gives has not only me but my Beta about to laugh. Thankfully we both hold it in as I don’t think her parents approved of her remark, but I did. I love that my mate has beauty, brains, and fighting skills. I feel myself being turned on by all of her attributes and it doesn’t help that she has an amazing body. She is toned but not overly muscular, with caramel skin, long curly jet-black hair, juicy kissable lips, a nice ass, beautiful smile, and the most gorgeous green/hazel eyes that sparkle when she smiles.

As I continue to eat and talk with her family, I feel a hand on my arm that I can tell does not belong to my mate by the feeling of disgust that comes over me. Turning my head, I look at the intrusive hand before looking up to meet the eyes of its owner. Renee is looking at me with a smile on her face that doesn’t reach her eyes. My Gamma looks at me and I give him a look that says I have no idea what is going on, and we both look at his mate. She gives him a big smile before turning back to me. Her hand subtly runs up and down my arm. To someone not paying attention it would look like someone lightly patting to get the person’s attention, but I knew better. Lycans senses are much better therefore I perceived what was really happening. She was trying to get a rise out of my mate, but before I could call her on it and put an end to all this, a loud growl erupted from beside me by my mate. Everyone turned and looked in our direction. Shocked looks came upon all their faces as my mate launched herself over the table and tackled Renee to the ground before pinning her there. I saw her claws come out and quickly got out of my seat and rushed over to her right before she could plunge her claws into the girls’ chest. Wrapping my arms around her waist, I picked her up and gave a look to my Gamma that said for him to get his mate under control, before I walked at superhuman speed out of the room and upstairs to my bedroom.

Once I put her down and close and lock the door, she turns to me and starts yelling. I explain to her the situation. If it was any other female, I would not have cared what course of action she took, but being that the female is the mate of my Gamma, I couldn’t let her hurt the stupid girl. Now I have no choice but to let him tell her that Freya is my mate. Unless the girl has rocks for brains, she probably has already put that together. At least she doesn’t know that I am the King. That much I can keep hidden until the Mate Ball. While thinking of the ball I get an idea. I know exactly how I am going to punish Renee for this incident.

I pull Freya onto the bed and get her to lay with me. Thankfully she is calm now and after a while I can hear her breathing become even and when I know she is asleep, I mind-link my Gamma.

“What the hell is wrong with that mate of yours?” I ask him.

“Alex I am as clueless as you are about what happened. She has done nothing but cry the entire time that she has been in my room.”

“This will be the last time anything like this happens. I will not have my mate upset, especially now. She is new to being a Lycan and you know how dangerous that can be to those around her. If I weren’t here that girl would be dead. And don’t misunderstand me Ethan, I care not if that girl lives or dies, but you are like a brother to me and that is the only reason I intervened. I would hate to see what losing your mate would do to you. Get her in line!”
