Freya’s POV

I leave with Renee and follow her into my mother’s office. I’m wary of her even though Alex said that she was sincere and wasn’t lying to me. It isn’t that I’m worried about her hurting me or anything, but I have limited time with Alex and I’d rather be spending this time with him instead of listening to her explanation for why she’s been a bitch to me and ruined our friendship.

“Okay make this quick Renee, I’d like to spend some time with my mate before he leaves.” She looks a little nervous then straightens her back and holds her head up high. I’m impressed with her sudden boldness.

“Well, I’d like to start by apologizing for my behavior. I was wrong to accuse you of being the reason your brother ordered me to stay away from him, and for the way I treated you afterwards. I’ve never been special. I’m not the daughter of an Alpha, Beta, or even a Gamma. Hell for the longest time I would have settled being the daughter of a Delta. There’s nothing that sets me apart from anyone else. I was always just Freya’s friend and most people didn’t even know my name. Being mated to your brother meant that finally people would see me and respect me as someone other than just Freya’s friend. My personal demons don’t excuse my behavior but I’m just hoping that it’ll help you understand a bit more about me. I’ve always felt invisible, like I was an afterthought. I mean even dumbass Zachariah has a title or importance. It was never about being Luna for me it was always ever only about finally being seen. Now that I have Ethan I’m so happy and I realize that he sees me so I don’t care if nobody else does. If he was stripped of his title right now it wouldn’t matter to me as long as how he feels and sees me remain the same. Am I being clear?” She sighs and takes a deep breath as I watch her for a moment.

“Renee, why didn’t you tell me that was how your felt? As your friend I would have listened to you and tried to help you as best as I could. I loved you like a sister and it hurt me when you said that I’d get my brother to do that to you. I’d never make him abuse his Alpha power like that on anyone. I didn’t even ask him to do that to Zachariah and you know how much of a nuisance he was to me.” We both laugh and shake our heads yes. She has some tears falling from her eyes and I notice that I do also.

“I’m sorry for the part I played in all of this too. What I said about not wishing you on even rogues was out of line. I meant to apologize for that before now.”

She reaches for me and gives me a hug and I hug her back. Never would I have thought that she and I would be able to speak let alone hug but here we are. We talked a bit more and she apologized for the incident with Alex as well. At the mention of his name, I tell her that we should get back so that I could say goodbye. She nods in agreement and we head back to the dining hall.

Upon entering, I see Alex has his fists clenched but he’s talking to my parents. Zachariah is glaring at him from the side and I instantly realize that is the reason for my mate’s posture. Alex turns and I see a smile spread across his face as I can see his body relax. I smile in return but hold up a finger telling him to give me a moment as I walk towards Zach. As I approach him, Zach looks at me with a confused look and I slightly smile at him.

“Zachariah, I’m tired of walking into a room and seeing my mate looking like he is doing everything in his power to not kill you. I’m also tired of walking into a room and seeing you glaring at him. First of all, he is my mate and that is not going to change so get used to it now. Second, he has done nothing for you to not trust him. He told my parents and me everything that happened that night. I can tell when someone is lying and you know that, and he was not lying to us. Now I need this animosity to end or you and I cannot be friends because I will not have my mate be disrespected by anyone. If I wouldn’t let anyone do that to you then I’m definitely not going to allow it with him. Understand?”

“But Freya...” I cut him off.

“Do you understand? Zach there is no room for negotiation here. Please don’t make me cut you out of my life after we finally got to a place where we could be friends.” I looked him in the eyes so he could see how sincere and serious I was being. He shook his head and we hugged before I turned and walked to my mate.

“Now that all of that is done with, how are you?” I watched him relax more the closer I got to him.

“I’m good now that you’re back. How is your situation?” I saw him nod towards Renee who was busy kissing her mate. I’m really happy for her. I smile and turn back towards him.

“Things are great. I think I have my friend back. I understand her better now and we forgave each other. How long do you have before you have to head back?” He started to fidget a bit and looked at my parents before looking back at me. I feel pressure in my head and know that he is trying to mind-link me so I give him access.

“Freya, I kind of had to tell a lie about you needing to go to the palace at the Kings’ request for you to receive punishment. This lie was for Renee’s sake but really, I want you to come with me because I believe you’ll be safer there at least until after your coronation. I don’t want to make the decision for you so I am asking if you’d come back with me? If you don’t want to then I’ll make up something but I’d prefer you came with me. Ethan is staying here with Renee.”

“Wow, I definitely wasn’t expecting that but I don’t know what to say. I mean of course I want to go with you but leaving my family so quickly is making me nervous. Guess I just had it in my head that our first meeting would be at the Mate Ball so the plans changing are a little overwhelming. Kind of thought I had more time, but I trust you and if you think this is best then I’ll go with you. I mean I was going to be there eventually anyway, right?”

Giving him a smile and a hug, we sit down and have breakfast before I head upstairs to pack a few things. My parents will send the rest of my things later. Once I’m packed, I head downstairs with two suitcases and my cell phone. My mother hugs and kisses me with tears in her eyes, then my father gives me a hug and tells me that he’ll see me at the Mate Ball. My brother pulls me in for a big hug and tells me to call him if I need him. I smile up at him and tell him to do the same. Renee comes up to me next and smiles and hugs me. I’m so glad that we are good again. Zach walks over and looks at Alex before he looks back at me and gives me a hug.

Once all the goodbyes are said, we head outside and I climb into the car while they put the suitcases in the trunk. David got into the driver's seat while Alex got into the backseat with me and we took off down the packhouse driveway. The guards opened the gates and let us out and I wave goodbye to them. They smiled at me and waved back before turning back to their posts and the gates closed behind us.

The trip to the castle took about two and a half to three hours, so we talked a good portion of the trip until I kept getting distracted by the countryside and he gave up on keeping my attention. My stomach started to growl about thirty minutes before we reached the castle and I had to convince them to keep going and I could get something to eat once we arrived.

Thirty minutes later and we pull up to this huge wall with a gate in the middle. The entire wall looks as though it is glistening. I turn to ask Alex why it looks that way and he said that the gate is enchanted to keep people that wish anyone inside the castle harm from being able to enter. The gate itself is also made of pure silver which can make Lycans sick if they touch it but won’t kill us like a regular wolf. There are guards posted in booths at the gate and in towers strategically placed along the walls of the gate that look to surround a good portion of the castle. The gate opens and we proceed through to the other side and the view I’m met with is breathtaking.

There’s an expanse of land that leads to a long bridge and the closer we get to the bridge, I can see that there is water surrounding the castle. At least the water looks to be surrounding the castle. We drive across the cobblestoned bridge and make our way to a circle drive and pull up right in front of these huge oak doors that have a black Lycan carved on the left door and a black wolf on the right. The castle itself looks like something out of a fairy tale. The royal banner hangs on the left and right side of the castle and little flags bearing the colors hang from the top of the towers. The royal banner is yellow and red one with a black Lycan in the middle and one with a black wolf, each with a full moon in the upper left corners with the head of each creature looking up at it as if it is getting ready to howl at the moon.

If you want to get a good picture of what the outside of the castle looks like, I suggest you find a picture of the Bodiam Castle in East Sussex, England only the bridge is much wider and made of cobblestone, though I have no idea how they did that part. Maybe it is enchanted as well. I’ll have to remember to ask Alex later about that and other things about this place. For now, I’d love to get to the kitchen and make myself something to eat. If the outside is this beautiful, then I cannot imagine what the inside will look like. Am I really ready to live in a place this extravagant? Will I fit in with these people?

An hour later I have met more people than I can count and can’t say that I’ll remember their names just yet, but in time I will. Alex had to go to his office to catch up on work and a few other duties that he needs to handle. He told me to just mind-link him or David if anything happened but I told him to quit worrying. He introduced me as a special guest so that is what we are going with until the Mate Ball. I was hoping to be sleeping in his room but he said that would be too much temptation for him, so for now I am sleeping in a guest room on the Beta’s floor. This sucks! I would rather be with my mate, but I’ll wait since it seems so important to him. One more week to go and we can finally complete our bond by mating and marking each other.

I decide to unpack the few things that I brought with me and plugged in my phone to the charger. Then I went into the bathroom for a quick shower and was in awe of how big the bathroom was. There was a claw foot tub big enough to fit four people and a stand-alone shower on the other side of the room that had three shower heads. One was coming down from the ceiling, one was at the back of the shower, and one was at the front of the shower. There was a keypad on the wall before you get into the shower that powers the shower, temperature, and spray.
