The Lycan King and His Mysterious Luna Chapter 31

After my wonderful shower, I got dressed in jeans and a bright yellow shirt with the picture of a wolf on the front, and my favorite black sneakers before leaving my room in search of the kitchen. I was given a brief world-wind tour when we first arrived because he had urgent matters to attend, but promised that he’d give me a proper tour another time. I felt a bit nervous wandering around the ground floor of the castle as I only knew where the dining room, lounge, sunroom, pool room, and game room were located. This place was like a pack house on steroids. The inside was of course decorated in the royal colors and there were old portraits and Knick knacks decorating the various mantles and tables but at least the furniture looked a bit more modern-day and not as medieval as some of the other stuff. I’d hate to be the one to have to dust or clean this place at all.

Finally, after what seemed like hours of looking, I mind-linked David to ask him where the kitchen was because at this point, I am starving. He told me that he would send someone to me that would show me around. I tell him that I am sitting in the lounge and he says someone will be with me in a minute. Within a few minutes, I am greeted by a young girl about my age with shoulder-length brown hair, green eyes, a slim figure, and olive skin. She’s attractive but seems a bit shy as she gives me a slight bow before straightening and telling me her name is Alice and she’ll be taking me around. I give her a reassuring smile and then follow her to the kitchen. All the workers stop when I enter the kitchen and stare at me. The kitchen is massive and the smells coming from in here are all mouth-watering. As I sniff the air I can smell roasted chicken, pot roast, potatoes, string beans, corn, pies, cakes, and fruits. If I could I would stay in here forever. I don’t realize that my eyes are closed and my stomach has started growling until I hear little giggles from all around the room.

“I think we should get this young lady something to eat.” says the lady I’m guessing is the head cook. “You must be Freya. My name is Emelia. I am the head of this kitchen. Alexander said that you may be stopping by to eat. Normally all meals are eaten in the main dining room but since you’ve been traveling, I think you’re fine eating in here. Don’t want you sitting out there all alone.” She gives me a smile and then orders someone to fix me a plate of food. There’s a table in an adjoining room that looks like it can seat all twelve of the people I saw in the kitchen. I take a seat and a boy with dirty blonde hair and brown eyes comes out to bring my plate and a glass of water. He looks to be about a year or two older than me with an average build. Doesn’t look like he can fight but then again looks can be deceiving. I give him a slight smile and he smiles back before running off back to the kitchen. Alice joins me at the table and watches me as I eat which starts to annoy me so I decide to ask her questions.

“So, Alice, do you like working and living here at the palace?” She looks startled that I am talking to her but soon recovers and answers my question.

“Working here is very good and it pays the bills, but ma’am I do not live here. I have a home in town with my mate. He’s the one that brought you the plate and water.”

“You both seem so shy.”

“No ma’am we are not shy, as a matter of fact we love to talk, but servants don’t usually interact much with the royals or higher ranking Lycans. We only speak to them when they speak to us.” That doesn’t sound right. I couldn’t have heard her correctly. I mean Alex doesn’t seem like a pompous, elitest, asshole. I’m going to get to the bottom of this. I give her a smile.

“Well feel free to talk to me whenever you want. I’m not like that and I give you and your mate complete permission to speak to me before I speak to you whenever you see me.” She smiles and I continue to eat my food.

Once I’m done eating, I thank everyone in the kitchen and tell Emelia that I can’t wait to taste tonight’s dinner and desserts. She smiles and tells me that I’m in for a treat. Alice and I leave the kitchen and I tell her to take me to Alex’s office. Normally I’d be nosey and look around the place myself, but for someone reason it doesn’t feel right to do that without him with me. She leads me down a few halls and I try to remember all the turns we make but then after a while I just give up. It took us about ten minutes to get from the kitchen to his office which was almost practically in another wing. “This place is way too huge.” I mutter as we finally reach a huge oak door with a Lycan embracing a wolf carved into the door and before I can knock the door opens.

David pulls me into the room and he looks frantic. “Freya, I’m so glad you’re here. Maybe you can calm him down because I have tried everything.”

I look to the far corner of the room and there is my mate standing in the middle of a bunch of papers and he looks furious. What could have happened? Slowly I walk over to him and when he turns to look at me, I can see his eyes are golden instead of their beautiful grey color. His wolf is present which is good, because if they both were present then this place would look far worse.

“Honey, you want to maybe take a walk with me and show me around?” His eyes soften at the sound of my voice, but I can tell there is still anger there. “Or better yet, how about you call it quits for the rest of the day? You haven’t had time to rest since we got here and I’m sure you haven’t eaten.” I gently rub his chest and his eyes flicker between gold and grey. The grey finally winds and I know that Alex is back in control.

“Hi Freya.” He smiles at me and I smile back.

“There he is. What has my handsome mate all worked up?” I wrap my arms around his waist and he kisses the top of my head.

“I don’t want to worry you. It could be nothing. Did you eat?”

“Don’t do that.”

“Do what?”

“First of all, I’m your mate and a Lycan, so I know what you’re feeling. Second, I’m not fragile and dainty so cut all the overprotective crap and just tell me what is going on. Remember we are not going to keep things from each other.”

“I forgot how perceptive you are and yes we did agree to not keep things from each other.” He runs his hand over his face and goes to sit on the sofa on the left side of the room and I sit next to him.

“While I was away there were some attacks on neighboring packs that lost some members. Three packs were hit to be exact and a total of 100 members lost. Even one person losing their life is enough but 100 is devastating. The rogues have Lycans with them so that made things worse. I wish I knew who was behind these attacks, because rogues are working together and that does not happen.”

“You will figure it out Alex. There must be some kind of way to find out what we need to know.”

As I leaned into him and he wrapped his arms around me, we heard a commotion outside of his office. I felt him stiffen and before I could ask him what was wrong, the doors burst open and a woman walks in looking pissed. David is behind her in an instant with two guards and I automatically go into defense mode. She must be a threat if David is here with guards, and any threat to my mate will be eliminated. I subtly move and stand in front of Alex with my hands at my sides. My Lycan and wolf are both on high alert ready to shift and attack in necessary. She runs right to Alex and damn near knocks me down when she basically pushes me out of the way. Two arms steady me before I hit the floor and since I don’t feel tingles, I know that it must be David. Turning I see my mate standing there with different emotions playing across his face, but the main emotion is anger. He pushes her to the side and moves out of the way when she reaches for him again.

“Michelle, did I or did I not tell you that you are not to come here unless summoned by me? Are you stupid or just blatantly disregarding my orders?”

“Alex, you don’t understand...”

“You are to address me as Alpha or Your Majesty. I’ve told you about forgetting your place with me.”

“Alpha, will you just listen. The rogues are getting closer. I was in town and some people were talking about their houses being broken into when they aren’t home and even some women have gone missing.”
