Treasure Of Dragons, Royal Dragons Book 1 Chapter 110
Ria
“David, before you get into what you are going to say I have a question. You said that Royal Dragons don’t exist, there’s no such thing. When your and my dragon met yesterday, and we felt that connection, afterwards she kept pushing the idea that you were a royal dragon.”
He smiled, “Well, that is actually probably just learned vocabulary. She’s been instructed that male dragons who are dominant and have special abilities are considered royal dragons. So, when she met me and I am a dominant male dragon with special abilities, she automatically cataloged me in the only way she knew how, that I was also a royal dragon.”
I nodded, “Okay, that makes sense. It had just thrown me.”
He nodded, “Okay, this goes back quite a long time ago. My grandfather is the one who had the first experience. He told us about a dragon that he’d met, who was the most evil thing he’d ever encountered. Now, he explained it as this dragon had tried to talk him into forming some kind of separate society, and that they would then take over the humans, and rule over them. My grandfather was appalled, he said no immediately. He thought that would be the end of it.”
David paused for a second, “Now, that wasn’t actually the case. My grandfather talked about this dragon popping up at different times and places still attempting to recruit him and then my grandmother, and later our parents. He would get angrier and angrier that my grandfather refused him. Just to put this into perspective, at that time, my grandfather was probably the oldest dragon alive and he was incredibly powerful. This man was obviously obsessed with trying to get my grandfather to help him.”
“My grandfather later said he began to notice things as he traveled from place to place. Other dragons, some that he had previously met, had started talking about a Royal Dragon, and they were in awe of him, talking about all of these abilities he had and his followers. So my grandfather and then my grandmother began to refute what this other dragon had been telling everyone. He insisted that he was special, that he was supposed to lead all dragons.”
We were all getting fidgety at all of this, “Well, this went on for quite a while. Then right after the Great War, or World War I, some government officials came looking for my grandparents. They talked about a new branch of the government that would be utilizing the dragon's ability to help them police all of the supernatural races. That only the strongest and most powerful dragons were wanted. They became angry when he refused. They came quite a few times to try and recruit him.”
David rubbed his hands over his face and shook his head. “My grandfather began hearing rumors of isolated and segregated groups of dragons. When he started asking some questions, it was explained to him that due to the severe lack of dragon births, and the fact that no females were being born, dragons were obviously being contaminated by interacting with men and other species. So, it had been decided that the dragons for all of their wisdom and strength were the only species possibly superior enough to become the police force for lack of a better word for the supernatural world.”
We were all nervously looking around at each other, getting more and more nervous as this continued, “Since my grandfather had never heard of there being any problems with dragon numbers declining, and he had thought we were all doing just fine, he decided to investigate what was happening.”
David started to fidget quite a bit, “After tracking down so much bullshit, he discovered at the heart of all of it was the dragon who had tried for years to recruit him. He was responsible for men coming to him parading as government officials to try and snare him in secret. Also, that dragon had started to build villages that were only for dragons, no other species was allowed, this perpetuated the idea that other species were to blame for the decline of the dragons, and that rogues were responsible, so they must be hunted and killed. This would allow the atmosphere to clear and the dragons would once again be able to birth more children. My grandfather was so enraged at his deception that he went to find him and confront him.”
“When my grandfather returned from that trip many months later, he was so sad. He said that the world of the dragons had been irreparably altered, and this man was doing unspeakable things in the quest to basically make himself a dragon god or king, or something like that. He was putting chemicals in the water of the villages which made the women sick. Many had died because of it, or they became infertile. He made many of the women mate with him as he said he had superior blood as a Royal Dragon, and he would be able to give them children and save the race of the dragons. He stole children and no one ever knew what became of them, he used this as a sign that our numbers were falling and there were no children. The men he recruited, he twisted them, and then he sent them out to kill anyone who tried to stand up to him. My grandfather wasn’t sure what he could do." You could see how painful this was for David.
“Then the visits started up again with men trying to recruit him. They were like a cult and determined that all dragons had to belong to their group and move to one of the approved villages. Then it was back to saying they were a part of the supernatural division of the FBI or CIA, and that they were recruiting dragons who were royal, and powerful. My grandfather refuted all of their claims and called them liars. He tried to spread the word about these men, and their leader, but it was difficult to say the least.”
“Then one day a whole group came, they ended up killing my grandparents in a rage due to him once again refusing to fall in line with the plans of this leader guy. My dad hunted him down, and he was able to kill him, but he couldn’t take out all of his underlings. So, fearing for our safety, he retreated with us to the Canadian Rockies and made a life for us there. He helped a lot of dragons to get out of that bullshit, or to find out about all the lies. So, that’s how I know that the men you are talking about are not who they seem, and you have been lied to for a long time, apparently your whole entire family had.”
No one could move after all of that. We all just sat, absorbing the nuclear detonation that had blown up in our faces. What were we supposed to do now?
