Treasure Of Dragons, Royal Dragons Book 1 Chapter 154

Drago

The moment Ria’s dragon went airborne we were all right behind her. She emitted that EMP pulse she had and all of the vehicles stopped dead, Men were pouring out of them, but half of their weapons were now smoking and useless. The field was alive with moving bodies of men, some of whom now had more handguns, or other weapons that hadn’t been disabled by the pulse.

I could see that there were mounted grenade launchers and large vehicle-mounted guns. However, as those required mechanical firing, they were now made useless by Ria. So, as men scrambled to try and fire them, they remained silent. I heard men’s voices as they barked orders, or shouted.

Then it was an all-out dive bomb, as there were fire breathers that bathed flames over the entire army that had been sent to destroy us. Cole sprayed vehicles with his acid, and they started to melt, and I could hear men scream below.

I watched Collette’s dragon, do a roll and extend her wings as she did so, and I saw that she cut down men, and tore guns in hands in half with her wings, as they acted like weapons. Her mate, the phoenix, swooped in behind her, wings extended, bathed in flame, and a huge blanket of fire appeared behind him.

I could feel some bullets whiz by my head, but Ria was close enough that she was shielding most of us, but I heard Cinder shriek not too far away from me, and my dragon turned and moved in front of him, as I could smell he was bleeding. So, he’d been hit by bullets, but he was not horribly injured.

I did hear gunfire and several other shrieks as Ria wasn’t able to cover everyone while she was moving and avoiding the guns herself, and she was trying to stick close to the kids, I could tell. She sent a bolt of lightning and one lead jeep blew up completely. The whole area was engulfed in flames between dragons, and phoenixes. I watched as Drako breathed lava bombs rather than fire, and those were hitting various targets. Shards of ice flew in a river from Dragori’s dragon’s mouth.

All in all this battle only took minutes. These men never stood a chance against the level of power my family possessed. I wonder if they had truly known how powerful we were. They had never really met Ria, let alone her dragon. They had no idea about how gifted our children were. So, the idea that a battalion of soldiers, even heavily armed and prepared for war, could really hurt my family was asinine. Of course, they weren't aware of that, until now.

This was a blow to be sure, and this would cause them to rethink ever coming after my family again, which was good. However, this wasn’t all of them. These 300 or so men, in a battalion, did not constitute the whole end of the organization along with all of the dragons and other shifters they had recruited over the years.

How many of those dead men below on the ground had been like my brothers and I? Convinced that we were doing the right thing, and making the world a better place, by hunting down “rogues” who were guilty of harming others? That was a sobering and very sad thought.

Now, they were facing engagements such as this, with no dragon power to back them up. Perhaps they had thought that without us it would be no big deal, and they could continue to be strong even without the dragon families they had believed they controlled. Now, for them, it would become a whole new world without the ability to wield that power, and in fact, be at the mercy of it instead.

We landed, and I saw Ria’s dragon walk into the woods, and a little bit later, she walked out, shifted back to human, and dressed. She walked up to me, and my dragon dipped his head to her. She reached out and touched his snout, and he huffed air blowing back her long hair.

“We need to basically cremate all of this. We have to destroy all of this and I think the best way is with all of the dragon and phoenix fire to work together. Any larger metal Cole can take care of by melting them down.” She was answered with a huge amount of dragon roars.

She put her hands over her ears and laughed at the sound, then she went to the dragons, and everyone else, and was telling huge animals what she wanted them to do, and I had to smile to myself as each and every one of them listened to her.

She had taken care of Cinder after he had finally shifted back. He’d been flying and using his gift to generate rain clouds around the area where the battle had taken place. With so much fire, we’d end up burning down the forest if we weren’t careful. So he used the storms he had the ability to control to drench the ground and trees in rain. I wondered if someone somewhere was watching weather radar and wondering what the absolute fuck was happening.

At the end of the day, it was a very sad sight to be sure. There was a huge patch of scorched earth. There were a few places where metal of one kind or another poked through the carpet of ashes. Cole concentrated on melting those with his acid, and we eventually got rid of them.

The truth was we were standing in a mass grave, this had been a cremation, and we all knew that. Yes, we were defending ourselves and our families. These were still lives that had been lost however, and it was always a mournful occasion when faced with the loss of so much life. So, even though they were technically the enemy, we felt we should be respectful of that loss.

It took hours to get things cleaned up, everyone shifted back, made sure anyone who had been injured was tended to and healed or healing. Ria was once again everywhere and taking care of everyone. She’d fussed over Cinder when he’d shifted, but he was healed from the bullets that had struck his side. So, my family was good, we were all together. I didn't anticipate that we would need to fight this large a scale of battle again, not after this.

Now, I was sure that anytime they came after us, it would be more of a trying to catch one of us alone and unprepared. They would never come at us full scale again, they now knew that was a suicide mission.

Now, we had to train our children and any friends who joined us, to protect themselves, and be prepared, until we were sure the very last of them was eliminated. The war was not completely over yet.
