It had been just over 4 months since I had left home in that plane bound for hell in my opinion. I had done what I needed to do to keep myself safe. What I never in a million years expected was that I would find my mate, a polar bear shifter, named Kaskae. I have fallen so in love with this man it is unbelievable. 

It's not just him though, his mother, Ahnah, and his father, Kova, had welcomed me with open arms, and the rest of the tribe was right behind them. I have started to help a lot with the veterinarian who works with the village animals and even goes to other villages nearby to assist them. With my ability to communicate with animals it helps a lot, and not only do I love the animals, but I love to help. Also, it lets me visit one of my new best friends, Ishohalie, who is the Phoenix shifter who is mated to a dragon shifter here named Pyred. She has been incredibly helpful in piecing together lore and truth from tradition. 

So much of what I was taught, and my brothers and sisters were taught, is just not true. Right now Kaskae and I are with the parents discussing another of those supposed-to-be-impossible things, that has now been proven incorrect. 

“When is your appointment at the clinic?” my mother-in-law for all intents and purposes, though she calls me daughter and I call her mom, asks me.

“Tomorrow morning about 9:30, so we should be able to give you a report right after that.” 

She and my father-in-law, although like his mate, he is just dad and I am just daughter, are smiling huge, and so is Kaskae, I am not far behind them. I am pregnant and we couldn’t be happier, we have a doctor’s appointment to officially confirm the pregnancy, and we are going to have an ultrasound, because we have heard more than one heartbeat. With me being a triplet, the possibility of me having multiples goes up, so we need to check.

I will say that this development has made me think of my mom and my sisters more. There is so much information I need to pass on to them, and I don’t know how to do so, and I have no idea what the repercussions might be. So, I have been dwelling on that a lot.

“I can see you thinking very hard over there, love, and I know you worry about your siblings and your mother, we will address that when the time is right. Let us take care of this one thing, now, and let tomorrow care for itself. Did you call Isho?”

I smiled at my mate and nodded, “She made me promise to call her the second we got home from the clinic.” 

“I am actually surprised she has not threatened to hike to the village and park her ass on the front step of the clinic until you come out.” I laughed, and he pulled me onto his lap from my chair next to him. 

I leaned my head on his shoulder and just absorbed the affection and closeness we shared in these innocent touches. I always wanted to touch him, not always in a sexual way, although that was very much a part of our lives, and an incredibly good one. I just always wanted to reach out and make contact with him in some way, a brush of my fingers, a nuzzle, a hug, a brush against him with my arm, just some way to make contact with him, and he was very much the same way. 

My mate was the son of the chief of this village of Inuit people, and as such, when his father stepped down, he would become the chief, and I would be the chief’s wife. I had thought it might make a difference with me being from another country, and a dragon shifter. However, if there is one thing I have discovered about these people, it is their generous nature and hearts. They are so accepting, and they embraced me with no question when I walked into the village mated to Kaskae. 

“My son is right. Let us see to this matter, and make sure you are healthy, then if we need to, we can talk about contacting your mother soon.” Kova tells me while nuzzling his own mate. Seeing them be affectionate has really pointed out to me how very much my mother is not that way with my fathers. 

“I know, Dad, I think perhaps it is just that I am being hormonal, and it’s making me sentimental.” all 3 of them laugh.

“My love, you are always sentimental, although you do have a fierce tongue when needed, but your heart always bleeds for those who are hurting.” I looked into Kaskae’s beautiful big brown eyes at the love glowing out and I smiled at his accurate description of me. 

It’s the day we find out about our baby. The urine test they did came back positive so fast she couldn’t even put down the stick before it was glaring at her, and they are sending the blood test, but we already know it’s positive. Now, due to my being a triplet, we are about to have our ultrasound, and we shall see what’s up.

I am lying on the exam table, with this stupid crinkly paper sticking to me. I have my shirt hiked up to just under my breasts, and there’s a sheet tucked into my pants that are pulled down around my lower hips. Dr. Nanuq has just squeezed the gel out onto my abdomen, and then she puts the paddle on my skin, flips a switch, and we hear a fast heartbeat. I am only about 4 weeks, and we think I got pregnant those first couple of days we were together in the hunting cabin, so I wasn’t sure if we would be able to see much yet.

Dr. Nanuq’s eyes get a bit bigger, and she smiles, “Well, there are 2 babies here, so not triplets, but twins, congratulations guys. Now, shifter pregnancies usually fall somewhere between 25 and 35 weeks, and it varies by species.”

I nodded my head, “My mom’s always run about 28 to 29 weeks on average, but I don’t know if Kaskae being a polar bear might change that.” 

She nods, “We’ll keep an eye on them and do some measurements in a few weeks. That should give us a better idea of how long they need to cook in there.” We all smile. 

She hands us a picture of our babies, although they basically look like blobs to me right now, but I love it. I can’t wait to show everyone.
