To be truthful my brothers and I were all still reeling from the whole blow-up with David from last night. We had known it was coming though. I had actually expected to get my ass handed to me a lot more than what he had done. With our dragons, it’s hard to realize that you deserve the ass beating and to not retaliate or anything, so that can get things fucked up. 

I guess my thing is stepping back and seeing how much of what he said matches right up with what Ria had said for so many years about if you love someone, there’s no one and nothing more important than them. It made me question a lot of things about myself. I had always thought I really loved Ria, and I loved my kids, and the rest of my family. However, was there something wrong with me because I so often put what I considered my duty above them? 

I can’t even really shovel this off on the other families. They weren’t the ones with daughters and a mate. They didn’t have the previous attachment to want to protect a mate more than the village or town they were supposed to be in. I do think about what happened with the Diamanis. When things went down, and it all went to hell, they stayed here with Mari, yeah they went back to check on things and take care of issues at home, but Mari came first, before the town or anything back home, her and her recovery and what she needed took priority over everything else. 

They literally dropped their whole entire lives to come and be here and stay by her side so that they could help her get over what they had done, well not get over, but they could all work through it and try to build a positive and loving relationship out of the shit start. They never pushed a physical relationship with her for almost a year, and truth be told, just because they went home and things were so incredibly better with them, I have no idea if they are still not having a physical relationship, that’s not something that as a father I had thought to ask. 

So, how is it that I used to say we couldn’t hold our dragons back from Ria for very long before we all gave in to whatever physical relationship they wanted? I was having to face some very hard truths about myself, my relationship to my dragon, my relationship to my family, and my connection to the town we were supposed to protect. I was finding there weren't a whole lot of positives when I was dissecting it all. 

I was up in my office today working on some financial reports connected to our businesses, and not in the control room. The 4 of us toggled duties down there with our other business responsibilities. I was busy trying to concentrate on things when Dragori, our head of security, rushed into my office. 

I immediately stood up, “What’s wrong?”

“The Patels have been attacked, We got an emergency message from Todoro, their head of security. We had been sending them information on all of the new shit we had been learning about everything. I had been talking to him about it all. I know Constantine has been sending packets of information to the others as well. Anyway, I got an alert message just a few minutes ago from Todoro, which just stated an attack in progress. I have no idea who, but my guess is that the secret is out that we know what the fuck is truly up with all of this bullshit.” 

“Okay, let's head down to the control room and we’ll see if we can contact them, and we’ll have Constantine pull up some satellite imagery.” I followed him as we rushed down to the underground control room. 

Ash and Cinder looked up when we rushed in, and as soon as they saw our faces, they were on alert, “What’s happening?” Ash asked us both.

“Attack on the Patels. We need to see if we can contact anyone there and Constantine, I need you to pull up satellite imagery, see if we have any visuals about what the fuck is happening.”

“Okay, give me a few minutes to get into the system and pull shit up.” I heard keys clicking away as he did his tech mojo over at his station. 

Cinder had his phone out and was making calls, but it looked like there were no answers. He shook his head at me, hung up, and dialed another number. After several attempts and no answers, we stopped that, and we were all just watching Constantine as he worked his magic to get us the images we needed.

“We might need to get Ria down here. She is such a wiz with all of the computer stuff, she might be able to get into some areas if we need a hacker to pull up info.” Cinder threw that out there.

“That’s a good idea. Hey Dragori, can you go and get Ria and David and ask them to come down here?” He nodded and rushed out of the room. 

About 15 minutes later Dragori, David, and Ria rushed into the room, “Do we know anything yet?” David was the one who asked.

“No, how are you doing over there Costantine?” All of us turned to look at him as he concentrated on the screens in front of him.

“Last firewall and then I’m in. We’re going to need to erase my footprints when we get the fuck out of the satellite system.” I saw Ria nodding, so no doubt she’d help with that.

“Okay, I got it. I am sending the images to the big screen.” I was watching the screen in front of me but I heard a whispered, “Oh fuck” come from him.

As soon as the pictures started displaying there was so much smoke, that it was legitimately hard to make out everything. Not to mention the aerial images were not the best ones to get a lot of detail. What we could actually see as the smoke cleared here and there was devastating. The whole area looked to be completely destroyed. The house I had seen before when we had a meeting with them after the whole shit with the triplets went down and we started working with Ria on what we could and couldn’t do as far as the girls she had given birth to. That had been the extent of the interactions with the Patels, only the recent year of contact. We had only recently started to work them into the whole network of all of us and what we had thought we were doing for the government. They had been included in the alert we had sent out as soon as we got home about the agencies not being legitimate government agencies and for them to investigate the situation for themselves. So, what the fuck had they uncovered that had now triggered an attack?

Ria whispered from close to me, “Time’s Up.”
