We are currently sitting around the big family dining table, and we have just basically spilled a whole heap of shit all over it. The kids are looking at one another, and I am smirking. I knew they knew there was a whole lot more shit going on than we had told them, so most of them are absolutely not surprised.

They won’t know some of this stuff, but they most definitely knew something bad was going down. So, now I look at the guys, who look adequately sheepish at me having called it as far as our kids go. They are all smart cookies, so we won’t be getting much past them.

“Okay, so let’s start by saying, along with this whole heap of bad guy bullcrap, your dads have to confess that we have messed up big time. We believed some things that we have since found out are absolutely not true. We will be going over things and pulling them apart for you and explaining everything we can.”

I nodded, “So, basically welcome to dragon school, everything we have ever taught you is not really true, so now that we are finding out the truth, we’re telling you. Us finding out is the whole reason why there are bad people who are coming after us by the way.”

Nicoletta, my brain child looked at David, “You are our grandfather, you haven’t said it but it’s been implied, and I heard you call mom daughter, so that is something we already know.”

I nodded my head, “Yes, David is my dad, again, a big huge amount of information, so in the interest of not completely overwhelming you or ourselves truthfully, how about we take this in bite-sized pieces.”

They all nodded, “Good, so like we said, we found out that what we had believed about Dragons our whole lives, taught to us by the grandparents you never got to meet, and then we passed it to you. So, since we now know it is wrong, we’re going to tell you the corrections. First, Royal Dragons don’t exist. The truth is dragons are just dragons, the ones who have been classified as Royal Dragons are just exceptionally gifted with abilities, and some people set up this whole thing a long time ago as a way to manipulate dragons, and basically create their own society.”

Again my kids all basically look around at each other not really saying anything, or even looking surprised really. I have to throw my head back and laugh, because they already know some of this stuff, and have figured it out for themselves. Yet, here are their dads just following the sheep believing whatever, and here are their kids, being told one thing, but not just believing it, and finding out the actual truth.

“When we’ve been in school with the other kids there are some of them that can do things too, not just us. Their parents have made them keep it secret thinking you guys would get mad if you found out about it. So, since they can do the things too, and some are even better than what we can do, we didn’t think it worked quite like you told us it was supposed to." Colette told us.

“So, you guys already know what kinds of abilities you all have?” David asked them, grinning.

“A lot of us do, but some we are still figuring out, we have been helping the younger kids when theirs starts giving them fits and stuff. It usually starts happening at school, so we have been around. So, we thought we would help them get it under control, and as you guys never asked, and all we had heard was that they should come later, we just kept it to ourselves.” Drako tells all of us.

I jumped up from the table and went around kissing all of them on the head. This was so incredible that they had been doing this and orchestrating all of this without us. I was upset that they had felt they had to, but they had majorly stepped up to help their siblings, and I was so proud.

“I wish that you had come and talked to us about what was happening. However, aside from that I am so incredibly proud of all of you. You saw a problem, you stepped up to take care of your brothers and sisters, you helped them if they were worried about the secret getting out, and you made sure they were safe. That is truly amazing.”

“Your mom’s right. I’m sorry that you ever felt you couldn’t come to us and talk to us about this. I’m sorry we seemed so rigid in our beliefs and attitudes that you would think we would be upset at something different happening with you guys. Also, we are proud of you as well for helping your family.” Drago looked at all of them.

“I have been working with them a lot in the afternoons after school to help them develop and hone their skills. Especially in the last year.” Brand tells us, and he’s looking at his dads. I know part of that was a dig, telling them he felt he needed to make sure his siblings could defend themselves after what happened with the girls.

David looks at him, “Okay, how about I join you in doing that, and we start working on everyone's skills as a regular thing. No more hiding it, we all work on it out in the open, and we get things squared away. One of my gifts is being able to sense the gifts in others. Now, sometimes there’s one that gets by me, or I have never heard of or seen. I can say it’s there, but I can’t say what it is called or what it exactly does. Your mom is like that.” I looked at him a bit, and I saw Brand just nod, like it was common knowledge.

“We’ll also work on getting things more organized so we are not completely ignorant about what you guys can do and how we might be able to help. Now, on to the rest of what is wrong that we have taught you.” I watched my kids focus on me.
