We had arrived at the house and I was letting the little ones run around in the garden as Isobel and Monica took Hope and Sarah up to the Nursery. I was waiting to once again be able to hug and see all of my kids and know everyone and everything was okay after being so high-strung for so long. 

I saw them coming and smiled. Several of them saw me as well and ran to me, once again several talking all at once. I was so incredibly impressed with how the boys had framed everything and kept it fun so none of them were worried or upset. I looked up when Collette stepped up to me with a huge grin. 

I hugged her, ‘What’s up my beautiful girl?”

“I shifted for the first time a couple of days ago. Man, that really hurts, you should have warned me, but I am so excited, my dragon is so cool, Mom.” I blinked.

Well, now that I thought about it this was yet another of those things the guys had told me that they had probably been told, and now for sure it’s a lie, so I smile, “Oh sweetheart that is so awesome, I am so sorry we missed that. You’ll have to let her out and we’ll go flying with everyone soon.” She was grinning hugely as she hugged me again.

I looked up and the guys all had shocked looks on their faces, and Brand said, “Ah, yeah that happened, I was going to talk to you guys about that. I thought you said the girls wouldn’t be able to shift until after they were mated?”

“What? Was that another of those things that you guys were taught?” David looked at the guys, and they nodded.

“Brand, we’ll talk to you soon, but one of the things that happened while we were there is that we have discovered that a huge amount of the information that your grandparents from your dads, who you never knew, passed down a lot of information, that they were told, that we are discovering is wrong. So, there’s a lot of confusion, and we’re trying to discover what the actual truth is so we can make sure to correct things with you kids.” He looked at me and really examined my face.

He nodded, “Yeah, dad had been saying there was some stuff going on and that you guys would be needed to tell us some stuff, so I guess that was one of those things, the girls can shift like we do, so that’s cool. They'll be happy to know that.” 

I laughed, yeah, it’d always been a source of contention that the girls had to wait to shift and the guys got to shift and fly earlier. So, now there wouldn’t be a thing other than when the dragon was ready. So sometime after 16 usually they would shift, so, now all of them would be on equal footing with shifting. There was going to be so much we had to correct going forward with all of them. This felt a bit daunting, but at least we’d be able to teach them the correct information now. 

I went up to feed Hope, and Sarah was playing and talking to me, so I sat on the floor and interacted with her while feeding Hope. Isobel and Monica had asked a lot of questions. I told them a few things and explained that we were still wading through all of this shit and we would let them know more as we knew more, and they both reluctantly agreed with that. I thanked them both over and over for helping to protect my kids. They both just shook their heads and waved me off. They did talk about Collette’s dragon and how beautiful of a metallic blue color she was. 

So far all of the kids had been one of the shades the guys were, black, red, green, or blue, not one of them was my iridescent pearly white color yet. None of them had the golden yellow color that Natalia’s dragon was, but as she wasn’t related to the guys by blood I wondered if that made a difference. I had never really enquired about the coloring of the dragons. I guess maybe I should actually do that. Brand, Drako, and our Dragoi hadn’t really found out their gifts, but we hadn’t pushed that, they weren’t in a fight. Well, now we would need to adjust that, and perhaps try to find out from their dragons what they could actually do and have them start practicing with their abilities. 

Monica left to go to the kitchen to get things going to feed the younger kids. I went down a bit later and helped corral hungry kids as we got them all fed. Then after all of that, we had a meal with the rest of the family in the regular dining room. So, we were trying to make things seem more normal. Now, it was evening, the babies were asleep, and the younger ones were off to bed. The older kids were mostly all in their rooms with their devices or watching TV together, or reading. 

I was sitting out in the garden loving being here again. Here it was warm so it was a good time to be out here. I was sitting on my normal bench, listening to the fountain, and I heard a call, looked up, and saw an owl. This wasn’t one of my original mated pair of Ural owls. This was a horned owl, my Ural owls having both passed away about a year ago. 

He landed just before me and started to talk to me, “Well, hello, and yes, I have missed you as well. I hope you are doing well. I’m not sure what it is about owls, but apparently, my daughter has owls that very much like her as well. Would you like to come up here on my bench this evening?” 

Before he could I heard a laugh behind me and David came closer, “So, I had heard that you shared that affinity with Elizabeth, or rather Elizabeth got that from you. You actually got that from my mother. We had animals running around all over the place all of the time with her, so this brings back memories.” I smiled at him.

The owl decided to take off after I gave a couple of pets, no doubt due to the stranger here, “So, now, my daughter, I have observed but not said very much, however, now I think we are going to have to talk seriously about your childhood, and I’m afraid quite a bit of your whole life.”
