David

I would have never believed that I would come to visit Pyre and Ishohalie only to find the daughter that I had hoped once upon a time to find. So many had told me over and over again that I had to accept that she was dead and I would never find her. Even my sister had been adamant that I accept her loss. Of course, now Pyre felt incredibly bad about the whole thing.

I had told her last night that blaming her solved nothing. I needed to use my energy to get a grip on all of this and get to know my daughter. I knew there was some bad shit that was going on. Isohalie had already told us just a few things that she’d learned from Elizabeth. I wasn’t sure of the whole dynamic, but I knew that the family had come in. They were supposed to be here for a reunion of sorts with Elizabeth, and there had been some questions about false beliefs. Kova had asked me to come, as a dragon I could be of great assistance in helping this whole family.

I, of course, said yes. I mean, if I could help this family, and I could visit with my sister after having been on a dig for so long, it was a win-win for me. I didn't know how drastically this whole trip would be life-altering. Not just for my dragon and me, but for hers and all of her mates and children as well. Now, I was just afraid of what these evil bastards might do in retaliation if they discovered their secrets were out.

Kova spoke up, “I think we need to immediately plan for you all to fly out as quickly as possible. The fuel trucks are already there in the hangar with the plane. I’m going to call down and have them fuel the plane and get it ready for takeoff. How soon do you think you all could be ready to leave?”

Drago looked at his brothers and my daughter, “Well, we are pretty much packed, we didn’t really unpack everything, we’ve been living out of the suitcases so to speak. So, just odds and ends that need to be gathered. Then we can load everyone up in the snowcats and head back to the landing strip for takeoff. It’s a rather long trip, but the plane has a bed we can use for the kids, and we all did okay on the trip here. So, I think that should be the plan. David, do you want to plan to fly out with us now, or come later?”

“Oh, no, I’m coming with you guys now. If you are looking at facing anything any time in the next few days I want to be there to make sure you have all the backup you might need. I also want to be able to see the kids, and I think talking to the other dragon families you have been working with as quickly as possible will be important. I know there’s a family here as well, and we’ll have to bring them up to speed, but we can do that with video conferencing. They will need to be ready for whatever the fallout is from all of this as well.”

“I’m going to send a text message to Mari. I’ll tell her to check her e-mail. Then I’m going to send her a coded message along the same lines as what I spoke to Brand about. She’ll be able to at least if nothing else know that there’s danger and she and her mates need to be ready for anything that might happen. I know they have the village there as well, so they can take care of notifying anyone there they need to.” Elizabeth told her parents.

“That sounds like an excellent plan, honey. How about we all go now and get stuff together as quickly as possible.” Cole said and stood up, and so did everyone else.

Pyre looked at me, “Are you able to just go?”

I nodded, “Since I had just come back from the dig, I was off right now anyway. So, I don’t have any other jobs lined up or anything. This will be a good time to head out, not to mention, I can’t let her go without me. I need to make sure she’s safe and that her kids or I guess my grandkids are all safe. Also, I really, really, need to talk to her and get to know her now. I also think I am going to need to know a whole lot about what’s happened to her.”

She nodded back to me, “Yeah, I guess I didn’t even think about all of that before I asked you that. Of course, you would need to go. I can’t tell you how sorry I am David. I truly thought she was gone and I was helping you by telling you to stop looking.”

I hugged her to me, “I know sis. Nobody could have ever guessed all of this. Don’t worry about all of that, as I told them, let’s concentrate on now, and figure shit out. To worry so much about what’s done and over with is just a waste of energy at this point. I need you to be careful as well. If they know I am helping, they’ll know you are involved somehow. So, I will keep you in the loop so you can know how to stay safe.”

“Okay, let's get to the snowcat so we can head to the house and get your bag. Then you can get back as soon as possible so you can go with them.” I nodded and we headed out the door.

“David, how long do you think it will take you to get back?” I thought about that when Drago asked me.

“Actually I won’t come back here. I will go directly from Pyre’s house to the landing strip in my snow cat. That should save time. So, how about we plan to rendezvous there in about 2 hours. Will that give you guys enough time?”

“Yes, that should be fine. We’ll see you there then.” I nodded and he helped guide Ria out and towards the guest cabin to grab bags and get things ready to leave. This was going to be a very intense trip no doubt I just hoped we got there before anything went down.
