I looked down at my beautiful mate and wanted to claim her right now. However, taking my mate for the first time in a snow cave in the freezing cold was not exactly what I had envisioned. So, I probably should at least get her to the hunting cabin where I could claim her in peace, but also warmth, and with a bed, not here naked on the snow.

“I wish to claim you, but it is cold here, and not the ideal environment. I will shift to my polar bear, and we will go to my hunting cabin. That is actually where I was, and I had gone out hunting as my bear, when the poachers found me and shot me. The wound wasn’t bad, but it bled quite a lot and that is why I was weak when you found me. My bear knew you were his mate and had no fear of you. Did you not fear a large Polar Bear that you helped him into this small cave?”

I watched her blue eyes twinkle in mischief and caught my breath, “No, I will tell you all about it, but like your bear my dragon is anxious, and I’m not sure how long I can keep her from jumping you, so perhaps we should head out.”

I grinned, “Fair enough, we have a very long time to learn everything about one another.”

We dug out the entrance to the cave, and I scented the air. I wouldn't put my mate in danger if the poachers were still around. When the air smelled clean, I closed my eyes and let my bear come forward. I felt the stretching and bending, the popping of bones and joints. It was rather painful, no matter how many times in my life I had done this very thing. It was just part of being a shifter.

Then my bear was on 4 feet and he turned and nuzzled into Eli’s stomach. She laughed with a umph, as he was very big compared to her. No doubt, without her shifter strength, he would have knocked her down at least, if not hurt her. I did sense however that he was being gentle. She nuzzled her face into his fur, hugged his neck, and I heard a low growl that I could tell was her dragon greeting my bear.

We stepped back and turned, looking over our shoulder to make sure she knew to follow us. I saw her swing her pack onto her back and then she nodded to us. I started to move forward but my bear stopped me. He looked at her feet, and I suddenly realized what he was trying to tell me. She had no snowshoes, so she would have trouble keeping up with us.

He turned and looked into her eyes, then he lay down. She looked back and tilted her head, it was like she was listening to something. Then I heard him speak to her, telling her to ride his back. She seemed surprised, and at that moment, I realized she could understand him, if not fully, at least in a way. I was utterly amazed.

“You want me to ride on you? Will I be too heavy?” She looked at our huge back, and he chuffed at her to say she was not too heavy, did she think him weak?

“No, you’re not weak, but I am not familiar with you yet, so I wasn’t sure if you would have trouble carrying 100-plus pounds while running through the snow. However, I will take your word for it.” She chuckled and climbed onto our back.

Having her against me again made me think of taking her now, snow or not, but I explained to our bear that we should treat our mate better, and our mating would be much more satisfactory if we waited just a bit till we got to the cabin. He acknowledged me and then he took off as fast as he could run across the snow. Our feet were wide and made for this terrain so he had no problems with traversing the snow and ice.

I heard her laugh as she gripped the rough at the back of my neck. My bear loved feeling her hands in his fur, and he was extremely happy to be carrying her to our territory. I had much to tell my mate, and it seemed she had much to tell me. There would be plenty of time for it, but I was most curious about how she came to be out here in the wilderness in a snow cave.

However it came to be, I believed the spirits had guided her to this spot. Both to save my bear and me after being shot, until we could fully heal ourselves. Also, it seemed to me that she needed me as well, so the Spirits guided her footsteps, and gave her the knowledge to protect herself from the environment until we could reach her. My people, the IuInuvialuit, or Inuit, believed in the Spirits and their guidance.

We ran the 5 miles rather quickly, and she laughed periodically and it seemed she enjoyed the ride on the back of my bear, and he very much liked having her on his back. I could see this being a thing. No matter how much she might be accepted as a dragon flying in the skies of Romania, around here, she wouldn’t be able to fly through the sky as she was probably used to. Again, another thing we would speak of as we got to know each other. I could feel my bear pushing at me more and more to claim his mate.

When we reached my hunting cabin Eli climbed off my bear. I could see her cheeks were very red, but her beautiful eyes were alight with happiness. She hugged my bear and thanked him for the ride. He licked her cheek, which he had never done to anyone before, and it rather shocked me. She opened the door of the cabin and walked in, and left the door open for me. I changed back to my human form and walked in behind her, shutting out the world as I shut the door behind us.

I didn’t bother with clothes, shifters were rather used to being nude in front of others, and she was my mate. No doubt she would see me this way often. I built up the fire to take the chill off the place, and watched her remove her pack, and then layer by layer remove her winter weather gear. I was impressed with the amount of coverage she had, she had done well for one not born and bred here.

I walked up to her, and she looked up at me with joy in her eyes. I cupped her beautiful face and claimed her lips in a kiss. She was very enthusiastic in her return of my kiss, and we spent several pleasurable moments just learning each other’s mouths.

“I wish to claim you my Eli, would you allow me to make love to my mate?”
