After hours of being so on edge, the whole group of us was home. The moment Victor opened the door, the look on his face told me something was wrong. 

I saw all of the guys clue in as well, “Welcome home. You have a guest, Senator Mitchell, waiting for you in the family living room.”

We nodded, looking at one another. I saw David's brows ride, perhaps remembering that name from my discussion on the plane. I was torn about having the children in his vicinity, but if Isobel and Monica were with the children, who would be with them?

“Victor, we're going to take the children to the nursery. Could you ask Rebeka to come sit with them for a few moments?” Drago asked as we went to the stairs. 

Rebeka was a younger member of the kitchen staff. Mary was retired now, and we'd ended up hiring several people to take care of the kitchens with such a large family. Victor nodded and hurried to speak to her. We hurried up to the nursery, and I placed a sleeping Hope down in her crib. The other three, the guys took to the toddler room and placed them in front of their toys so they could play. I changed Sarah’s pull-up and got her situated, and took the boys to the potty, so that Rebeka didn’t have to worry about that right now. 

She rushed into the room and she was warily watching me. Rebeka was from town, and she knew that normally I would have issues with anyone from town watching the kids. However, right now, I have to use what tools I have at my disposal. I didn’t want my kids anywhere near Mitchell until we figured shit out. So, if I needed to let her watch my kids for a small amount of time right now, I would bend, and work with it. She seemed to relax as I didn’t seem upset at her presence. 

We left her with them and then the whole group of us went to the family living room and saw Senator Mitchell sitting calmly, waiting for us. The look on his face, although calm, made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Drago went forward to greet him as if nothing was wrong.

“Senator Mitchell, this is a surprise, I wasn’t expecting a visit. Sorry, I wasn’t here to greet you, but we have just returned from a short vacation, so what brings you here today?” I kept my face a practiced blank.

His smile was oily. Now, it could have been the usual Senator bullshit, but it felt like something more sinister to me actually, “Drago, where is your lovely family? I was looking forward to seeing all of your children.”

Drago smiled, “Well, as you can imagine, taking any type of vacation with that many children in tow is rather tedious. So, we try to find time for us to run away together to just have some couple time. Now, with some of our children quite young still, we take them with us, the others however, always like a few days of parental free time. So, they are with their aunt off having their own adventures while we took a few days to decompress. I had let headquarters know that we would be away.” I don’t let on anything, and am so glad he thought about adding Natalia in there. I hadn’t even thought about that, and now I felt like shit that I hadn’t actually. 

“Ah, I see. I’m sorry I didn’t call ahead and find out about all of that. I was in the vicinity on a diplomatic assignment, and thought I would swing by and say hello, and meet with your lovely family again. Well, no worries, I’m on my way back to the States, so I won’t keep you any longer. Be sure to express my gratitude for your house manager and his being so gracious upon my unexpected appearance. I will be contacting you in a few days about a new mission we have for all of you.” He got up and adjusted his suit coat and buttoned it, then he came forward and shook all of our hands, and I fought the urge to wipe my hand on my leg. 

We saw him out and waited. We got a notification from the gate that he was leaving in his car, and the driver and bodyguard were also present, so no one had stayed behind. I hadn’t thought of that either, so I was glad security had, or rather my mate had thought to ask about that. 

I let out a huge breath, “Well, I think that answers at least some of our questions. Now, we need to know where the children actually are. Is Natalia really with them? I feel bad now, I had never even thought to have her go with them or anything.” 

Drago hugs me to him, “Not to worry, and I have no idea if she is with them, I just thought on the spur of the moment that having her with them as their aunt made it sound much more plausible, than saying oh our kids are out running around by themselves or some shit.”

I chuckled a little, both at what he had said, and relief actually, “Well, that was well done. Now, do we know where to look for them?”

Cinder spoke up, “Yes love, Elizabeth said he would take them to the hideout they created in the cave system not too far from here. So, we can go and find them with no problems. We’ll wait for just a bit I would think. I think we should make sure no one circles back around just in case we run out of here with our hair on fire to go and fetch the children, who are supposed to be off having fun with their aunt.” 

I looked back at him as did his brothers, “What?” He looked incredulous that we were looking at him in shock.

“That is a very good idea, Cinder.” I decided just to throw that out there and leave it at that. 

I went back up to the nursery and saw Rebeka down on the floor playing with Dillion, Jeremy, and Sarah. She heard me come in and I could almost see her shrink like I was about to bite her head off. Now, in other circumstances, I actually might have, and I could own that. However, right now that was not my intention.

“Thank you Rebeka, we kind of threw that at you on the spur of the moment, so thanks for helping out.” She looked completely shocked that I had said that, but I left that alone as well. 

She nodded and got up, dusting herself off, and then left to go back to the kitchens. I took her place sitting with my children, watching them play, waiting until it was clear to go and find all of our others.
