Treasure Of Dragons, Royal Dragons Book 1 Chapter 60

Drago

I get Ria calmed down and we all sit around the conference table so we can try to sort this out. I was most definitely not expecting to hear what she told us. The idea that Braun isn’t human after all is huge.

“So, if his brother is a Dark Fae, then Braun would be a Dark Fae, so it stands to reason that he found my mother and either came after her on purpose or something. I don’t know. I think from what you had told me that for my parents to actually give birth to me they both had to be dragons correct?” She looks at Ash and me.

“Yes, they weren’t Royal Dragons or we would have known about them, and as I said there are only 5 Royal Dragon families currently. So, they were both dragons. There was already the question as to why your mom and her dragon were content to mate with a non-dragon in the first place. I’m not sure how much he influenced her now that I realize that Braun is Dark Fae.” I watched her face.

“She was always so sad after Dad died. I don’t ever remember her mentioning anything about dragons or mates or any of this shit. So, could something have happened to her dragon that kept it dormant after my dad’s death? Why did her dragon never defend me if it was there?” She looked at us.

“Dark Fae do have some magical abilities, it’s possible that due to the drug use that Braun was perpetuating on your mom, it interfered with her and her dragon. We have wondered about that for a long time, but we’ll never really know the answers to those questions. Now, knowing he is Dark Fae the idea that he specifically went after you is much more probable, even if he did something to block your mom’s dragon, or if her dragon was just so deep or despondent after losing her mate, I don’t know, but we can know now that he specifically went after you as soon as he met you. He would have known what you were. He was already a sick mother fucker, and the idea of getting his hands on you must have made him giddy, the sorry ass bastard.” I was fuming at all of this shit.

“He supposedly died in prison due to being shanked by a fellow inmate. However, now knowing what we know, how probable is it that he orchestrated that? Would that have really killed him? Would the human government allow a Dark Fae to really be imprisoned with humans?” She was rattling off questions so I held up my hand.

“I will definitely be asking some questions, and making some calls. I will also let people know the exact identity of the man we have been searching for. So, we will find out, Ria. If for some reason something fell through the cracks and he’s not dead or where he’s supposed to be, you can know for sure, we will take care of it and him, no matter what.”

She blows out a breath and rubs her hands up and down her face. Then she laughs rather sardonically, “I was supposed to be keeping the stress levels low so as not to kick start the contractions again. I’m okay no pain or anything, but I don’t really think this is a relaxing thing or useful for not getting emotionally upset.” She just shook her head.

“We will keep you informed about everything we find out about the whole damn thing. So don’t worry about being in the dark. I think not knowing would affect you more than actually knowing at this point.” she nodded again.

“I think I’ve had enough cloak and dagger for one day. Maybe I should go back up with the kids and just be normal, well as normal as I get anyway.” she snorted a little at that.

I took her back upstairs and walked her all the way to the nursery. Isobel smiled as soon as she saw her, but then I saw concern show across her face. She’d known immediately just from seeing Ria that something was very wrong.

I head back downstairs to get to work with the other guys, we still need to let Cinder and Cole know what happened today. They were busy taking care of other business interests and things, so they weren’t in the control room with us. Now, they need to know about this whole fucking shit show.

Ria

“Ria are you alright dear?” I see Isobel’s concern written all over her face.

“No, but I’ll tell you in a bit what’s up. Right now, I really need to decompress. I’m worried if I don’t calm down I might start the contractions all over again, and I’d rather not do that whole thing again.”

“Just let me know if you need anything.” She patted my knee as I got down on the floor with the kids. I wouldn’t be able to do this much longer, with twins I was expanding quickly.

Eli came up to me and held out her hand, “Here mama.” I smiled and held out my hand. As she opened hers a small grey mouse landed in my palm. It shocked me at first, but the little guy didn’t look afraid of me, he just looked at me with those little black eyes, and twitching whiskers.

I watched as Elizabeth reached out her tiny 2-year-old hand and started to gently pet him, He didn’t jerk away from her; instead, he seemed to push his tiny head deeper into the light caress. I looked up at Elizabeth and I knew right then. My affinity with animals, which they had told me was a rare dragon power, had been passed down to my daughter.

I smiled at her as I also petted the little mouse, “How about we take him out to the garden and let him run around out there. I would be very sad if someone accidentally stepped on him because he’s so small.”

She solemnly looked up at me and thought, then she nodded, “Isobel I am taking Elizabeth to the garden for a moment, I’ll be right back.” She nodded at me and smiled.

Elizabeth and I walked out to the garden and knelt down on the grass. I held out my hand and she picked up the mouse ever so gently. Then she set him on the ground, patted his little head, and said, “Bye-bye mouse, play later.” He twitched his whiskers and took off under the leaves of a bush.

As we walked back to the nursery I couldn’t help wondering, what would having my power help her do? Could it make a difference when she turned 18? I could only hope it did. I was still fighting though and I wouldn’t stop.

Would I win?
