Treasure Of Dragons, Royal Dragons Book 1 Chapter 156

Well, we finally got our land purchased. Oh my fucking god, the amount of paperwork and red tape was unbelievable. It took us more than a year to wade through it all to get it approved and the sale finalized. After that was wading through contractors and seeing which ones might actually fit. Lo and behold some shifters have their own contracting and building business.

We met Holden Baxter while interviewing contractors. The moment he walked in he sniffed the air, and my dragon came forward. He’s a wolf shifter, and his pack is who works the business with him, well not all of them, but a huge number of them work with him. So, now we are going to be working with a pack of wolf shifters to build the training facility. They are actually excited to give their advice about it all as well.

So, with that happening, that’s one more step towards our future. Collette is now in Greece with Alexios and she’s absolutely happy, and every time I talk to her she has a huge smile, so that warms my heart. Eli and Kaskae just found out they are expanding their family, this time it’s only 1 though, not twins, to which Eli says thank god, and I have to laugh. I am very well aware of that whole too many and not enough hands phenomenon.

My kids are growing and thriving here in the Alaskan wilderness. We have to be careful about flying as dragons, but so far we have managed to work that out. Not too many can shift at once, and they fly in different areas. We hope that keeps too many curious people from asking questions. We’ll have to see how long that holds though.

Drago and my other mates have now gone on several “missions” to take care of small cells of the “cult” for lack of a better word. They were successful, only one bullet wound so far, so, that’s good all things considered. I am still researching and determined to find every single one of those mother fuckers.

Brand and Drako thought it was stupid for us to wait until the facility was built before starting our training classes. So, now we have them, David, and all of my mates working with the kids out in our yard to teach a lot of self-defense, weapons, and then we have David mostly teaching about dragon history. I have also been able to get some books that both David and Pyre have suggested, and those also supplement the information.

None of the phoenixes or wyverns chose to stay here after the battle, which I most certainly understand, as their families were back in Greece. They have talked about possibly coming here to help with teaching and training when the facility is built. They are also a huge PR department out there and spreading the word to other types of shifters about what our plans are. So much so that I am already getting messages and questions asking about the facility and when it will be up and running. Currently, those answers are I don’t know. Cinder said we should create a waiting list or a sign-up sheet, and I just laughed. Although he may end up being right.

I continue to work on and they, I must admit, often bend over backwards to work with me, on the relationship between myself and my mates. There are still times when it’s easier than others, but I do find the longer we are together, and the longer they bust their asses to make me happy, the easier it gets.

The village is still there, with the castle up above. That castle is empty now, well, there’s still technically staff. It still technically belongs to the Balaurs, so I guess if the kids wanted it someday, that would be a possibility. Hopefully, by then the idea the village had about the family and dragons in particular will have died out. I don’t ask questions about how they are faring, because I don’t honestly care. I know that Natalia talks to the guys from time to time, so they probably know. I am glad they have never once offered to inform me about absolutely anything to do with the village or anyone in it. They occasionally drop a few words about Natalia, and that’s okay, the kids ask, she’s still their aunt technically.

For the first time yesterday, we had something happen here. Drako found his mate among the wolf pack that is working with us to build the facility. They are very much an all-inclusive pack, so women and men are not separated out for certain jobs, which is good so I don’t have to kick their asses, but a new girl just joined the crew. The second she was close enough to him, his dragon was up and checking her out. She did the same thing with her wolf going nuts. It didn’t take us any time at all to figure it out. Not after having watched this happen with Collette and Alexios.

Her family is coming to dinner tonight so we can all get acquainted. They will be mating immediately from what I understand, and as both are adults, I am happy for them, as long as they are both happy. I have a feeling this will be occurring more and more, now that the kids are reaching adulthood, and more and more other types of shifters come around because of the facility, and just from us reaching out to them. So, this is the next phase of the journey of parenthood. I am a grandmother, which is still really weird to think about. I have no idea what my kids think about having a mom who looks 18, and now a grandmother who looks the same age, I guess maybe to them it’s just all status quo, as they’ve never known any different. It still is weird as fucking hell to me.

I look up from my desk where I’ve been working on schematics and wading through paperwork, when Drago comes in. He walks over to the edge of my desk and leans on it looking down at me and just watching me.

“What’s wrong?” He shakes his head, reaches out, and grabs my hand, pulling me up from my chair.

He positions me between his knees and just looks at me, “What are you working on? You looked so deep in thought when I looked in here, so I wondered.”

“Just thinking about the status of everything and the changes recently and what will probably keep changing.” He nods.

“One thing that never will, we love you. We will always treat you like the treasure you are, love. Just so you know, you are the treasure our dragons claimed, and now we’ll guard you and hold you close, always, as the treasure you are.” I smile as he leans down and seals that promise with a deep kiss.

I think I love the idea of being the treasure of dragons.
