Logan's POV

I leaned casually against the railing of the pack house’s wide wraparound porch, giving Lia and Liam their moment. Knowing I'd have her all to myself for the next few days had me buzzing with anticipation, and it made me feel generous enough to let them say their goodbyes without interruption.

Through the bond I shared with my twin, I could feel Liam’s anxiety pulsing like a second heartbeat. Even a short separation from our mate was enough to set him—and his wolf—on edge. Still, we’d agreed it made more sense for just one of us to go meet our parents. We couldn’t both leave Lia behind, especially with the surprise we were planning for her. And honestly, something in me needed the first meeting between our parents and our mate to happen here—on our land, in our home. Not in some cold, impersonal airport terminal.

Besides, I knew my mother. She’d want to know Lia’s entire life story—probably from the moment she took her first breath. At least here, she’d have room to breathe. Being stuck in a car for two hours with my mom firing off questions wasn’t something I’d wish on anyone. I knew firsthand—it wasn’t a fun experience.

Liam had Lia wrapped in his arms, locked in a kiss that was anything but innocent, his hands gliding over every inch of her tempting curves. The sight alone had me hardening in my jeans. When the front door creaked open and shut behind me, I quickly adjusted myself and turned, catching Bastian’s scent before I saw him. Lucky for me, he’d walked in—though it wouldn’t be the first time he caught me in such a state.

“Hey, man. Liam heading out?” he asked, nodding toward the driveway where the couple was still tangled up in each other.

“Yeah,” I replied with a chuckle. “Just dragging out the goodbye.”

He smirked. “So, what are you planning to do while you’ve got her all to yourself?”

I arched a brow and wiggled them at him. He laughed, shaking his head.

“Of course that would be your plan,” he said, amused. “But don’t you think she might appreciate a little effort? You know—something more than just a good time between the sheets?”

“You’d be surprised how much effort I put into that,” I shot back with a grin. “But seriously, I do want to take her out. Do something special. I just... none of my ideas seem good enough.”

“Don’t overthink it,” he said, clapping a hand on my shoulder. “She’ll love whatever you come up with just because it’s from you. Trust me—you’ll figure it out.”

But the quiet expression on his face before he turned to leave hit me like a punch to the gut. I’d spent years avoiding the idea of finding my mate, running from it like it was some kind of curse. And now here she was—more perfect than I ever imagined.

Meanwhile, Bastian had been waiting six long years, holding on to the hope that his mate would come. And she still hadn’t. That kind of cruel twist didn’t sit right with me. He deserved this happiness more than I did. He was my best friend, and I saw the pain in his eyes even when he tried to hide it. But what could I do?

“Penny for your thoughts?” Lia’s soft voice snapped me out of my spiral. I wrapped her in my arms the moment she reached me.

“Mmm,” I hummed, breathing her in. “Just thinking about Bastian. He’s down today, but he’ll be okay. What about you? Got plans?”

“I was thinking I’d check in at the clinic. Theron’s swamped today,” she said.

I had to fight back a growl at the sound of his name. Rationally, I knew there was nothing but professionalism between them—but it didn’t stop the jealousy from clawing at me. I’d never been the jealous type before. Never cared enough. But with her... it was different. I forced the feeling down.

“That sounds... nice,” I lied through my teeth. “I’ve got some work to catch up on anyway. Meet you back here for dinner?”

She nodded, and I tilted my head to look into her eyes. I could never look at her long enough. She was just—breathtaking.

“I like that plan,” she said with a bright smile.

“Good.” I kissed the corner of her mouth and reluctantly let her go, watching as she walked away. That damn sway in her hips was going to be the death of me. Shaking off the thoughts racing through my head, I headed to my office. I had contracts piled up that needed my attention—though lately, I hadn’t been able to focus on anything but her.

Being Alpha meant responsibilities I couldn’t keep putting off. Might as well tackle them now.

Two hours later, I gave up. I’d read the same contract three times without absorbing a single word. My mind was elsewhere—completely consumed with planning the perfect date.

I wanted to show her she meant something. That I paid attention to what made her her. I remembered how happy she’d been the day we spent at the lake, the way her face lit up when she talked about its beauty. And then there was that conversation with Elder Keziah—how she said she felt a deep connection to nature.

That was it. The idea came together like puzzle pieces snapping into place. I needed help to pull it off, though. I went looking for Naia immediately.

By the time dinner rolled around, the plan was set. Everything was ready—except the most important part: getting the girl to say yes.

We were seated in the pack house dining hall, which was a far cry from romantic. It was crowded and loud, and with my Beta and Gamma across from us, I wasn’t about to ask her in front of them. If she said no, they’d never let me hear the end of it. Even if she said yes, they’d still find a way to make it awkward as hell.

By the time we reached her door after dinner, my heart was pounding. I barely touched my food, my stomach twisting the whole time. This wasn’t like the other times Liam and I took her out. This was just me. And the idea that she might not want time with just me? It scared the hell out of me. She didn’t know the power she had over me.

And then, we were there. Too fast. Too soon.

“You okay?” she asked, pulling me out of my swirling thoughts.

“Yeah, uh... actually, I wanted to ask you something,” I said, my voice catching.

She gave me a curious look, unsure whether to be concerned.

“I want to take you out tomorrow. Like... on a date,” I said. Then immediately cursed myself—not even a question. My wolf growled at my idiocy. “I mean, could I take you on a date tomorrow?”

“Wow,” she teased. “You looked like that physically hurt to say. Not sure how to feel about that.”

Her face gave nothing away. I thought I’d blown it.

Then she burst into laughter.

“I’d love to go on a date with you!” she said, giggling between breaths.

Her laughter was everything. It lit me up from the inside out.

“You think torturing me is funny?” I grinned, yanking her into my arms and tickling her mercilessly.

She shrieked and laughed and tried to squirm away, but there was joy written all over her face—and knowing I was the reason for it made my heart swell.

Who would’ve thought that hearing my mate laugh could make me this happy? I didn’t recognize the man I’d become in just a few weeks. But truthfully, I liked him better.

“I think it’s hilarious,” she said through fading giggles.

I pulled her in close, my hand on her waist, tilting her face up gently with a finger under her chin.

“Little girls who torture their mates get punished,” I murmured, voice low. “Sounds like you’re asking for a spanking.”

Her sharp inhale gave her away—and the spike in her arousal confirmed it. She wasn’t opposed in the slightest.

My baby girl was everything.

And I couldn’t wait another second to kiss her.
