Dahlia’s POV

By the time I found my voice again, we were already at the car. Logan handed me over to his brother, who was seated in the back. Liam wasted no time pulling me onto his lap, locking his arms around me in an unyielding grip.

"Argh! Let me go!" I yelled, squirming in vain.

"Not a chance, Angel," Liam growled, flinching as my elbow jabbed his ribs. "You're not thinking clearly right now, and as your mates, it's our job to protect you. Whether you like it or not."

"I don't need a damn babysitter!" I snapped, teeth clenched. "I told you—I’m supposed to go home with Isolde!" My anger was boiling over. I wanted to let Blue out and tear them both apart, but she remained eerily silent, ignoring me.

"The hell you are!" Logan shot back. "I don’t know what’s been going on with you lately, but we’re not letting you go anywhere until we get to the bottom of it. So sit back and get comfortable."

Maybe it was the alcohol, the emotional chaos of the last few days, or just sheer exhaustion from fighting a losing battle—but something inside me cracked. My breath hitched, and then the tears came, hot and uncontrollable.

"Why are you doing this to me?" I sobbed, shoulders shaking. Liam’s arms tightened around me instinctively, holding me close.

"Doing what, Angel?" he asked, genuinely confused. "Trying to protect you?"

"No!" I screamed. "Why are you acting like you care? Like you actually want me? Are you just keeping me around until you’re done playing house and ready to toss me aside? Just admit it if that’s the truth!"

The inside of the car erupted with snarls and low growls. When Logan spoke again, his voice was rough—tainted with the deep, resonant snarl of his wolf.

"You are our mate," he thundered. "Don’t you ever call yourself a side piece. We would never disrespect you like that. And I won’t hear you say it again."

Why did he sound so sincere? Like he truly didn’t understand where I was coming from. The weight of it all became too much to carry. I sighed deeply, defeated.

"You win, okay? You’ve had your fun. I was the naive little girl who just happened to be your mate and fell for your act. I’m sure you got a good laugh out of it. So can we cut the charade now? If you want Rowena, go be with her. Just... leave me alone."

My voice broke, thick with the heartbreak I never wanted to admit existed. I hadn’t meant to fall for them, hadn’t wanted this bond—but I had. And now, I was shattered.

The car jerked sharply and veered to the side of the road. Logan slammed on the brakes and turned around, his expression murderous.

"What the hell are you talking about? Explain. Now," he demanded, his voice nearly a roar. "And I want everything—don’t leave anything out."

"Did something happen that night I brought our parents home?" Liam asked gently, his hand moving in soft, soothing circles on my bare back. Even in the middle of my distress, the sparks made my skin tingle.

"You were fine until you came back from the bathroom at dinner. Then everything changed."

I inhaled shakily, then began recounting every detail of what I’d overheard in that bathroom—each word like a dagger I had to relive. Liam's claws slid out as I spoke, a low growl reverberating in his chest when I reached the part about him supposedly sleeping with Rowena.

Logan watched me through the rearview mirror. His eyes, now the piercing silver of his wolf, never wavered. I couldn't read their fury. Were they angry at Rowena for outing them? Or mad that she'd ruined their cover story?

"Angel… how could you think that of me?" Liam’s voice cracked with disbelief.

"How couldn’t I?" I shot back. "Rowena didn’t even know I was there. She had no reason to lie. I wanted to believe she made it up just to scare me off—but she didn’t even know I was in that bathroom."

Liam didn't reply, but the pain in his eyes didn’t fade.

Logan leaned forward. "I’ve made my share of bad choices, and I’m not trying to excuse them. But Rowena? That’s something else entirely. I’ve never been drawn to her—not even a little. That’s always bothered me. Why would I sleep with someone I had no attraction to? I saw her almost every day at the pack house and never once felt a pull. And I never—never—brought women to my room. That was a hard rule for me. It was always their place or a hotel, never mine—especially not on the Alpha floor."

He paused, eyes narrowing in thought. I let the silence sit for a moment, trying to absorb what he’d said. I still didn’t get it.

"So… what’s your point?" I asked hesitantly. I wasn’t sure I wanted to hear the rest.

"My point is," he said slowly, "one morning I just woke up next to a woman I’d never wanted, in my bed, in my room, claiming we’d had the best night ever. And I couldn’t remember any of it. Not a single thing."

He said it flatly, like it should all make sense now. But it didn’t.

"Are you saying waking up with a random chick wasn’t normal for you?" I asked, voice dripping with sarcasm.

He gave a humorless laugh and kept going. "I think she drugged me. I can’t prove it, but that’s the only thing that makes sense. I never drank enough to black out. And I never let them into my space. Ever."

His voice pleaded with me to believe him. His gaze locked with mine, searching for doubt. I stared back, but for once, I couldn’t find any lies in his eyes.

Then Liam spoke, pulling my attention away.

"I was at the architect’s office that whole afternoon. He and his mate are old friends—they invited me to dinner. I went to the hotel, cleaned up, and went straight to their place. I wasn’t with Rowena. I swear."

His voice was urgent, his eyes full of sincerity. I wanted to resist—but something deep inside me knew they were telling the truth. Maybe it was my gifts. Maybe it was just the mate bond. But I knew they weren’t lying.

"I believe you," I whispered.

Liam exhaled sharply, relief flooding his face.

"Thank the Goddess," he breathed. "I’m so sorry Rowena did that to you. We’d never betray you, Angel. We’ll make sure she never gets the chance to hurt you again. But next time… talk to us first, please. Give us the chance to clear it up before jumping to conclusions."

"I promise," I murmured.

Logan reached over, his tone softer but still firm. "I know it hurt. And I’m not trying to downplay that. But knowing Rowena… I wouldn’t be surprised if she’d been planning this for a while. Probably roped one of her little cronies in to help set it all up."

"Or she was just lying to her friend to impress her," Liam suggested. "She’s always craved attention. Claiming she was with one or both of us would definitely earn her some. Maybe it was just horrible timing that you overheard her."

That idea hadn’t even crossed my mind. I shrugged. Logan scoffed like he wasn’t buying it for a second.

"I’m sorry I didn’t trust you," I said, slumping against the seat. "You’ve never given me a reason not to. I should’ve come to you with what I heard."

Liam pulled me close again, his warmth swallowing me whole. "Of course we forgive you, Angel."

I relaxed into his embrace, my body finally surrendering to exhaustion as he cradled me gently, nose buried in my hair.

"We’ll always forgive you, baby girl," Logan added. And just before I drifted off, I could’ve sworn I heard him mutter, "Doesn’t mean we won’t punish you when you deserve it."
