Logan’s POV

“Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Dahlia Sterling as she takes the stage for our next performance!” the announcer’s voice boomed across the room.

“Wish me luck, gang!” Lia chimed with a mischievous grin before tossing back another shot and hurrying toward the stage.

“What the hell is she drinking?” I asked my brother through our link, settling back in my seat as her voice—sweet and ethereal—wrapped around the room. No matter how frustrated I was with her right now, that voice never failed to unravel me.

“Not entirely sure. Maybe tequila?” he guessed.

“She’s clearly already halfway to drunk. We need to keep an eye on her.”

“As if I’d ever let her out of my sight in a place like this, whether she’s drunk or not,” I shot back with a scoff.

I knew the kind of men who lurked in this bar. I used to be one of them, once upon a time. But just as I began to spiral in those thoughts, the music started, drawing my focus as Lia’s voice spilled out like honey.

She's just a girl and she's on fire

Hotter than a fantasy...

Damn right she was.

Up on that stage, in that barely-there dress, her body moved with effortless allure while her voice echoed with a passion that would’ve made Alicia Keys herself stop and listen. She wasn’t just singing a song—she was the embodiment of every note, every lyric. A walking, breathing fantasy I could never have dreamed up on my own.

Every man in the bar had his eyes glued to her, practically drooling—and all I could think about was tearing theirs out for daring to look at what belonged to me. But even more than the jealousy, I was drowning in pride. Proud of her beauty, her gift, her fire. Proud that somehow, some way, the Moon Goddess had blessed us with her. And in that moment, I knew with absolute clarity—I didn’t care what choices lay ahead, I would never accept her rejection. I would fight for her until my last breath.

This girl is on fire

This girl is on fire...

She sang with every ounce of her soul, and the crowd rose to their feet, singing along with wild admiration. But Liam and I stayed rooted in place, paralyzed by a shared realization we couldn’t ignore.

“I’m in love with her, Logan,” Liam's voice whispered through the link.

“So am I, brother. So am I,” I replied, the weight of it pressing down on me.

“We’re so screwed.”

My wolf was practically bouncing with joy inside my head, his tail wagging furiously. That damn furball had fallen for our mate the second he saw her. And I’d felt it too—the bond had pulled at me with a force unlike anything I’d known. Still, I hadn’t dared to call it love.

But Lia... She was everything. She’d burrowed into my heart so quickly and completely, the sudden weight of that truth nearly knocked me to my knees. Judging by the distant look on Liam’s face, he was just as undone.

Lia returned to the table to a flurry of excitement. Isolde threw her arms around her, nearly toppling her over.

“That was incredible!” she squealed, and the rest of the group followed suit with hugs and praise.

Even a few strangers stopped by to compliment her. I caught some guys eyeing her, clearly scheming how to approach—but her friends were a tight enough barrier that Liam and I didn’t have to spill any blood. Yet.

Except for Finnian Blackwell. That bastard wasn’t even pretending not to ogle her. His gaze clung to her like a second skin.

How the hell was his Luna okay with that? I felt sorry for the girl.

“I’ve got to pee!” Lia declared, raising her refilled shot glass like a toast, earning laughter from the table.

“Me too!” Isolde echoed.

They clinked their glasses, tossed back their drinks, and disappeared toward the restrooms. I almost followed but forced myself to stay put. She was with her best friend—she’d be fine.

“I think I’ll freshen up too,” Jovie added a moment later.

She leaned over to press a kiss to Finnian’s cheek as she stood, but he barely acknowledged her. It took everything in me not to chase after Lia. If she were marked and truly mine—our Luna—there’d be no leaving her side. What was wrong with this guy?

When the girls came back, Isolde and Jovie were chatting animatedly, but Lia’s face had changed. She looked… off. Tense. Upset.

I was about to pull her aside to check on her when the waitress dropped off another round of shots. Lia swayed a little, but still reached for her glass.

“Maybe take it easy, Angel,” Liam suggested gently. “You’re starting to wobble.”

“I’m fine! I don’t need a babysitter!” she snapped, the fire in her voice unmistakable.

Oh, she was pushing it now. A part of me itched to haul her over my lap for that sass. Liam stiffened beside me, but held his tongue. Patience had always been his strength.

The conversation drifted into childhood stories—some sweet, others chaotic. I listened, fascinated. Lia always struck me as gentle, innocent. But apparently, she had a mischievous streak. It made me smile.

“Remember open mic night at Eclipse?” Nia began, grinning wickedly. “That bitch from Midnight Moon who kept throwing herself at Finnian even though it was obvious he was there with Lia? Lia was so polite all night—until she came back from the bathroom and found the chick draped over Finnian’s chair, rubbing her boobs on his back. He was trying to shake her off, but she wouldn’t budge. Lia just grabbed a fistful of hair and dragged her all the way outside, tossed her onto the sidewalk like trash.”

Laughter exploded around the table.

“She marched her right past the bouncer, who looked like he was about to pee himself. Poor guy probably thought he was next,” Bailey added.

I glanced at Jovie—her face flushed, lips pressed in a tight line. No surprise. Her mate had been the center of this memory, and he didn’t even look embarrassed. No, the bastard was watching Lia with a fondness that made my fists clench.

Thankfully, the emcee announced Finnian’s name, cutting the moment short. Wait—he sings?

Please be terrible, I prayed silently. But the second he opened his mouth, I knew I wouldn’t get that lucky.

He was good. Annoyingly good. Worse, he locked eyes with Lia the entire performance like she was the only person in the room. And his song choice?

“Keep On Loving You”

The bastard sang every line like a vow. And Lia… Lia looked like she wanted to disappear under the table.

I wanted to run up there, throw her over my shoulder, and take her far away from this awkward, humiliating moment. But I knew she’d hate that even more.

When the song finally ended, I watched her shoulders drop with relief.

And all I could think was—this girl may be fire, but she was mine. And I’d burn the whole damn world down before I let her go.

As the song went on, I could feel the fury simmering inside Liam growing hotter by the second. While I was too caught up in watching our mate, his eyes were glued to Finnian like he was ready to tear him apart. One half of me wanted to stand back and let him do it. The other half was calculating how to minimize the damage if he did. It took a hell of a lot to get my brother truly riled up—but when he reached that point, it was rarely non-lethal.

“Fuck that,” Liam muttered through clenched teeth.

My eyes widened as he pushed back his chair and stormed toward the stage. I braced myself for impact, fully expecting a brawl to break out. But instead of going for Finnian, Liam marched straight past him. Confused, I tracked his movement as he approached the emcee, leaning in to speak low over the pulse of the crowd. The guy nodded and signaled the DJ, who queued up a new track. Liam stepped toward the mic.

I didn’t even know he could sing.

“There’s only one woman I’d ever give my heart to,” he said, his voice rich and raw through the speakers. “And I hope she knows... it already belongs to her.”

The audience let out a collective “aww” as the opening chords played. But I barely registered them—I was staring at Lia.

Her eyes were locked on Liam’s like the rest of the room had vanished. She looked completely blindsided, frozen in place as he sang. By the time he reached the second verse, I saw a tear trail down her cheek. She wiped it away quickly, but I’d seen it. And I felt it.

A shoulder, a caring voice

To tell you it's okay

Arms meant for holding you

Whenever you're afraid

I've got that and more to spare

Just say the word and I'll be there

He wasn’t just singing. He was making her a promise. That she’d never be alone. That no matter what came, he’d be there—we’d be there.

When the world turns you in circles

And the wind is at your face

When you need somewhere to run to

I know a place

If you want someone who’s willing

To lay down their heart

Someone to dry your tears

I’m here

I volunteer

Every word carried that weight. His eyes pleaded with her to believe him. To see that no matter what Finnian said, he left her. We never would.

The last note hung in the air, and for a few heavy seconds, neither of them moved. They just stared. Lia opened her mouth as if to speak, then hesitated and closed it again. She looked lost in her own war of emotions. I saw the emcee glance at Liam, clearly nervous about getting him off the stage. But instead of pushing it, he awkwardly moved things along.

“And now, give it up for the whole Crystal Moon crew performing September by Earth, Wind & Fire! Let’s see if they can do it justice!” he said with forced enthusiasm.

Our entire table stood up and cheered, trying to lighten the mood, but Lia looked more determined than thrilled as she followed the others to the stage.

She and Silas took the front, clearly the leads, while the rest of their group fanned out behind them. The music kicked in and everyone started dancing with high energy. I’ll give them credit—the stage lit up with their performance. They’d clearly done this before and had a rhythm only tight-knit friends could pull off. The audience was eating it up.

But while the room was bouncing with joy, I was rooted in my seat, seething.

Silas was getting a little too close. Dancing just a little too into it with my girl. And Lia—despite all the shots she’d knocked back—was somehow still swaying those damn hips like she didn’t have a care in the world. I didn’t know how she was even upright at this point. Liam’s knuckles were white where they gripped the edge of the table, and the look on his face? Murderous.

The song finally ended, and the group came together for a loud, laughing group hug. But I caught the wobble in Lia’s step just before she tilted forward. I was already moving toward her, but Silas jumped down first, spinning around just in time to catch her before she fell.

That was the last damn straw.

“Shit, Lia Bee! You alright?” Silas asked, holding her like she was something delicate.

“Lost my balance,” she giggled, slurring the words. “But you caught me.”

“I’ll always catch you,” he said softly, like it meant something more.

The hell you will.

“Give her to me. We’re leaving,” I snapped, yanking her out of his arms before he had the chance to argue. Surprise flickered across his face, but he masked it quickly.

“She was supposed to stay with Isolde tonight,” he said, reaching out.

“She’s coming with us,” I growled, stepping back just enough to make it clear he shouldn’t try again. My patience had snapped.

She wasn’t supposed to come back with us? What the hell was going on? I didn’t know. But what I did know was that she wasn’t leaving my sight again—not until I got some answers.

“Tell Isolde she’s safe,” I added with a low snarl. “And that she’ll be coming home with us.”

Then, without another word, I turned and carried her out into the night.
