My Possessive Alpha Twins For Mate Chapter 342
Faelan's POV
A gentle knock at the door, followed by the delicate scent of wildflowers, jolted both me and my wolf from the pit of despair we’d sunk into. I sat slouched over my desk, head buried in my hands, drowning in the ache of what I’d lost.
“Faelan? Can we come in?”
Lia’s voice drifted softly through the room, hesitant and sweet, as her head peeked cautiously around the doorframe.
She looked different today—no, radiant. Her natural beauty had always struck me, but now she was glowing, lit from within by something I could only assume was happiness. A pang of jealousy ripped through me. It was her mates who made her look like that. Not me.
“Of course. Come in,” I managed, forcing the words past the bitterness lodged in my throat. She’d said we, which meant both of her twin Alphas were with her. The last people I wanted in my office.
Everyone knew she’d just come out of heat. It didn’t take a genius to imagine what they’d been doing for the past three days. The thought gutted me. I’d nearly gone feral when they took her from me, and I’d spent every moment since wallowing in that void. But seeing her now, being close enough to smell them clinging to her skin, made the pain unbearable.
“We’re taking Lia home today,” one of them said—the one with the tousled hair and cocky swagger. Logan, I believed. “But we wanted to stop by and thank you before leaving your territory.”
“Thank me?” I asked, masking my confusion with sarcasm. “For what? I did try to steal your mate, remember?”
“For giving her a place when she had nowhere else to go,” Liam spoke then, his tone calmer but no less Alpha. “For keeping her safe. For helping her connect with her wolf. We know it was a risk, letting her unleash that kind of power. We don’t take that lightly.”
I scoffed. “You’ve both seen what she’s capable of. She didn’t need my protection.”
They flinched—both of them. That small reaction brought me a twisted sense of satisfaction.
“It still meant a lot to me,” Lia cut in, her voice soft but firm.
That’s when I realized the whole thing—their little display of gratitude—was for her. Not me. Her mates would rip me apart without a second thought if she allowed it. But she wouldn’t. She never would.
“I’d do anything for you. You know that,” I reminded her, eyes locked on hers. I didn’t care how much that truth irritated her Alphas. If it stung, all the better.
Lia turned, her eyes flicking over her shoulder. “Can we have a moment?”
I watched the tension ripple through her mates. They didn’t want to leave her alone with me, and I couldn’t blame them. Liam was the first to concede, offering a curt nod before stepping into the hall. Logan lingered a second longer, clearly displeased, but followed eventually with a sharp exhale.
“Faelan, I’m so sorry,” Lia said quickly the moment we were alone. “If I did or said anything to lead you on... I never meant to. You were there for me when I had no one, and I never wanted to take advantage of that.”
She looked genuinely pained, and as much as I wanted to wallow in the ache she’d left behind, I couldn’t stand the thought of her blaming herself.
“You didn’t,” I told her. “It was me. I saw what I wanted to see.”
Even now, I still didn’t understand how I’d fallen so fast. So hard. My wolf had never so much as glanced at anyone who wasn’t our mate. Then she’d walked into my life, and suddenly, it was over. One look, and we were lost.
And now, she was walking out of my life for good.
“I hate that I hurt you,” she whispered. “But... do you think we could still be friends?”
“Of course.” The answer came too quickly, too easily. But I meant it. I would take whatever part of her I could have, even if it wasn’t the part I wanted.
Unable to resist, I pulled her into one final hug. Just one. I should’ve known better. Two low, warning growls echoed from the hallway. Apparently, her mates hadn’t gone far. I released her immediately, and she chuckled softly, shaking her head at their overprotectiveness.
What had changed so suddenly? What made her trust them again after months of pain? I didn’t know. But whatever it was, it was her choice. Pushing her wouldn’t bring her back—only drive her further away.
Before leaving, her Alphas extended an invitation to their mating ceremony. A power move, no doubt—just a reminder of who she belonged to. Still, Lia looked at me with hope when they offered, and I couldn’t say no. I’d be there, even if it destroyed me.
Maybe by then, I’d have started to move on.
Maybe.
But before she left, she turned back, her expression troubled. “It’s coming, Faelan. That thing from my dreams. I know it’s real. I can feel it getting closer.”
The fear in her voice settled deep in my bones. After what I’d seen her do, I didn’t doubt her—not for a second. Neither did her mates. We’d all agreed to start digging, to search for any trace of the creature she described. After the ceremony, we’d regroup and share whatever we found.
As her car disappeared down the drive, I stood rooted in place, watching the woman I loved slip away. When I finally turned back toward my office, a single prayer looped through my mind.
Please, Moon Goddess—let me find my mate. Because only she could ever hope to fill the void that Lia Sterling left behind.
