My Possessive Alpha Twins For Mate Chapter 268

Liam's POV

I sat perched on the edge of the bed, my laptop balanced on my thighs as I tried to drown out the chaos in my head with work emails. Meanwhile, Logan paced the length of the room like a caged animal, mumbling under his breath—no doubt deep in conversation with his wolf. The agitation radiating off him was maddening. It was already hard enough to manage my own emotions, but his restless energy made it nearly unbearable.

After what felt like half an hour of this, I snapped. I was just about to suggest we head back and check on our mate when both of our phones chimed in unison. I reached into my pocket as Logan lunged for his phone on the dresser.

The message on my screen stopped me cold.

"Your parents were really nice, but meeting them made me realize how serious this is getting between us. I need some space to think. Please respect that and don’t come to my room tonight."

“Not a fucking chance!” Fang bellowed from within Logan.

“Logan, stop!” I snapped, standing abruptly. “If you corner her now, when she’s asking for space, you’ll only make things worse. You might even push her away entirely.” I tried to reason with him, but it was like talking to a storm. I'd never seen him this agitated over anything before.

“No, Liam! I spent the whole day with her. She was happy. She was excited to meet our parents. Whatever this is, it came out of nowhere—and we need to fix it. Now!” His desperation was starting to wear on me.

I clenched my jaw. “You know what? Your selfishness is really starting to piss me off,” I said, my voice low and hard. “You think I don’t want to be with her too? You got to spend two full days alone with her while I held everything else together. I’ve been the responsible one while you’ve had your fun—and it’s exhausting. But this—this isn’t about us. It’s about her. And we show her love by respecting her choices, even if they sting.”

“Fuck!” Logan cursed, sinking onto the bed with a defeated sigh. “This sucks. I hate knowing she’s upset. I hate not being near her. Fang is losing it—he’s convinced this is my fault and that Rowena has something to do with it.”

I sat down slowly. “What if she doesn’t?”

He frowned. “What are you talking about? Rowena looked guilty as hell.”

“She always looks guilty,” I said, rolling my eyes. “I just mean—what if this really is about her? What if meeting Mom and Dad made everything too real, too fast? She’s always been hesitant about the mate bond. What if... what if she never wanted more than just some fun with us? What if now that it’s serious, she’s ready to walk away?”

My voice cracked at the end, and I hated how raw that made me feel.

“No,” Logan growled, eyes dark. “She’s ours. And there’s no fucking way I’m letting her go. I don’t care where she runs—I’ll find her. She’s not leaving us. Period.”

I shook my head. Logan was too used to getting his way. But this wasn’t something he could force. And if Lia truly didn’t want us anymore… I wasn’t sure I could survive that.

“I’m going to bed,” I muttered. “We’ll talk to her tomorrow.”

“One night,” he said firmly. “That’s all she gets. I’m not letting her shut us out.”

I gave a curt nod and left the room.

I paused outside her door, listening for any sign she was awake, but the silence was absolute. She was probably already asleep. Ghost had gone silent too, sulking because he couldn’t reach his mate. I doubted I’d get any rest either, but at least I wouldn’t have to hear him whine. I showered quickly and collapsed into bed, silently praying to the Moon Goddess to help us fix whatever this was.

A knock at my door yanked me from a fitful sleep. The clock read 5:00 AM. I hadn’t really slept, but the possibility that Lia had come to find me jolted me wide awake. I jumped out of bed, heart pounding, and hurried to the door—only for the familiar scent to hit me before I even opened it.

I sighed. “It’s five in the morning, Logan. What the hell are you doing?”

He looked as bad as I felt. “Time’s up. I’m done waiting. You can come or not, but I’m going to talk to her.”

“Fine,” I said with a heavy exhale. There’d be no talking him down now. The determined set of his jaw said as much. I threw on my grey sweats and a white t-shirt, then waved him ahead. “Lead the way.”

Logan knocked lightly on Lia’s door. No answer. He reached for the master key, but I checked the knob first. It turned easily.

The room was empty.

Lights off. Bed undisturbed. Logan dashed into the bathroom, but his growl told me everything I needed to know.

“She’s not here!” he shouted, voice echoing off the walls.

Panic hit me like a freight train.

What if she’d left? What if rogues got her? What if she was hurt and alone?

I linked the pack immediately, pushing through my panic as voices responded.

Most replies were negative.

“She didn’t leave the territory,” I finally said, grasping for some thread of comfort. “The border patrol hasn’t seen her. Maybe we’re overreacting. She could be warming up for training.”

“No,” Logan replied, eyes distant. “Nikolai’s already on the field. He said no one’s there. Wait—she’s with Theron. At the clinic. He just linked me.”

Relief surged through me.

We nearly tripped over each other racing to the clinic, shifting into our wolves to run at top speed. We burst through the glass doors and skidded to a halt at the front desk.

“Where is Lia?” Logan barked at the clerk.

The poor girl jumped, fear rolling off her like smoke.

I stepped forward, softening my tone. “What my brother means is, could you please let her know we’re here?”

“Um, she’s not working up here today,” the girl stammered. “It’s Dr. Edgewater’s OR day—she’s assisting him with C-sections all day.”

She pointed to the calendar like she needed proof.

“What floor is the OR?” Logan asked, tightly reining in his temper.

“Second, Alpha,” she whispered.

“Thank you, Tori.” I smiled warmly, catching her name from her badge. “You’ve been very helpful.”

I practically pushed Logan toward the elevator.

But when we reached the OR level, another clerk informed us that Lia and Theron were already in surgery—and we couldn’t go in. “Sterile environment” or whatever the explanation was.

I had to physically hold Logan back from grabbing the guy.

“At least we know she’s safe,” I said, steering him into the hallway. “She didn’t leave. That’s all that matters right now. We can talk tonight.”

“Fine,” he muttered, though his clenched fists told a different story. “But when we do talk, she’s going to learn what happens when she hides from us instead of facing us. I’m spanking that sweet ass of hers next time.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Really?”

He grinned shamelessly. “What? Don’t act like you wouldn’t rather have her over your knee than chasing her around half the pack house.”

He wasn’t wrong.

“You’re disgusting,” I laughed, shaking my head. “Let’s go meet with our dads. Maybe work will help pass the time.”

“Doubt it,” he muttered. “But we can try.”
