As I hummed softly to myself while working, my thoughts wandered—drifting between the whirlwind of the past two weeks and the promise of what tomorrow held. When Mom asked me to help with the preparations, I’d put on a show of reluctance, tossing out a playful complaint or two just to get under her skin. Truth be told, I enjoyed watching my usually composed, Luna-perfect mother unravel just a little. But beneath the teasing, I was more than happy to help. I’d do anything to make tomorrow perfect—for her. For our mate.

The days had been packed—between organizing the ceremony and tying up every loose end at work before leaving town—but those moments were some of the best I’d ever had with her. We were strengthening our bond, step by step, and preparing to begin the next chapter of our lives together. I was beyond excited. I knew my brother felt the same.

The only thing that gnawed at me was the lack of time alone with her. Sure, we still managed to make love every night before exhaustion swallowed us whole—but gone were the spontaneous midday moments, the lazy kisses, the lingering touches that spoke more than words ever could.

Still, I didn’t complain.

A cold shower was suddenly a necessity. I couldn’t afford to be walking around with a hard-on in the middle of all this setup. I looked around to assess how much was left and was pleasantly surprised to see we were nearly finished.

“Hey, Dad!” I called, spotting him near the last table. “Looks like we’re just about done here. Mind if I grab a quick shower and then check in with Mom?”

“Go ahead, son,” he said, then leaned in with a conspiratorial whisper. “Just don’t tell your mom I’m finished out here—I’m sneaking off for a whiskey on the rocks.”

I chuckled. “Don’t worry, Dad. I won’t rat you out.”

With a grin still tugging at my lips, I made my way to my room. The door clicked shut behind me, and I stripped off my sweat-soaked clothes in seconds. I turned the shower to cold and let the water rush over me, trying to cool the heat still lingering beneath my skin.

After rinsing off quickly, I stepped out, grabbed a towel, and began drying my hair, already thinking of ways I might steal Dahlia away for a little one-on-one time.

That’s when I felt it.

The prickling sensation of being watched.

I paused. Tried to shrug it off. I was sure I’d closed the door… but had I locked it?

No scent hit my nose—no sign of another wolf nearby. But the feeling didn’t go away.

Spinning around, my heart kicked up as I realized I wasn’t alone.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” I growled, my voice sharp with fury.

But the words had barely left my mouth when I felt a sting against my leg.
