**Carlos Zea’s POV**

The moment the sparring session ended, I barely had time to catch my breath before a guard approached me. He was a young wolf, one of Alpha Corvin's personal sentries.

"Beta Zea," he said, bowing slightly. "The Alpha requests your presence in the Constellations Room."

I exhaled slowly, rolling my shoulders to loosen them. I should have expected this-Corvin never gave me a task without following up.

"Understood."

I wiped the sweat from my brow with the back of my hand and made my way toward the Alpha's hall.

The Constellations Room was one of the most sacred places in the entire stronghold. Unlike the war rooms filled with maps and strategies, or the council chambers where politics reigned, this room was ancient-mystical, even. It was where the Alpha read the stars, where he sought wisdom beyond what strength and bloodshed could offer.

This was the room that had magic left in them by our ancestors. It was one of the most historical places in our pack that had not been destroyed by the war that almost wiped the Lycans off the earth's surface.

Few were allowed entry. But as Beta, I had been here before.

The room was kind of dark, but in a beautiful way, like when you’re trying to set the mood for a bath after a long day. The walls had these glowing crystals stuck in them, and they gave off this soft, bluish light that made everything feel calm and a little magical. It wasn’t too bright, just enough to see the details around you without hurting your eyes.

The ceiling was the real showstopper, though. It was super high, like a giant dome, and it was covered in this massive painting of the night sky. But it wasn’t just any painting—it looked real. The stars were all in the right places, and they even sparkled a little, like someone had somehow trapped the actual sky up there. If you stared long enough, you could almost swear the stars were moving, like they were alive or something.

The air smelled a little weird, like old books mixed with the sharp smell of metal, but it wasn’t bad. It just added to the vibe, like this place was special, maybe even a little sacred. You couldn’t help but feel like you should whisper, not because you were scared, but because it just felt right like the room deserved that kind of respect.

Alpha Corvin stood at the center, his sharp eyes fixed on the constellations above. His posture was relaxed, but I knew better than to mistake that for ease. Corvin was never truly at rest.

"Alpha," I greeted, bowing my head.

He turned to face me, arms crossed over his chest. "Zea," he acknowledged. "How did she do?"

It didn't take a genius to know who she was.

I hesitated for half a second before answering. "Surprisingly well."

His brow lifted slightly in intrigue.

"She's strong," I continued, shifting my weight. "Not just physically-her instincts are sharp. She doesn't hesitate to fight back, and she learns quickly. Too quickly."

Corvin studied me, his expression unreadable. "Impressive."

I nodded. "She's got potential. If she keeps this up, she could become one of the strongest warriors we've trained."

Silence stretched between us for a beat too long. Then-

"You admire her."

I stiffened slightly. "I respect her ability."

Corvin's expression didn't change, but his golden eyes held something almost amused as he watched me. "That's not what I asked."

I clenched my jaw. "She's a skilled fighter. That's all."

His gaze remained on me, unblinking. It was the kind of look that could pick apart a man's thoughts, and strip him bare without a single word. I didn't like being on the receiving end of it.

Finally, Corvin smirked faintly. "Good."

I exhaled, not realizing I had been holding my breath.

The Alpha turned back to the constellations above. "Tell me, Zea. Do you know which constellation she was born under?"

I frowned. "No."

Corvin lifted a hand, tracing his fingers through the air. As he did, a portion of the constellation map above us shimmered and shifted, focusing on a particular formation of stars.

"This," he said, "is the Hunter's Crown."

I studied it-the stars arranged in a pattern that vaguely resembled a curved diadem.

"It appears only once every few decades," Corvin continued. "And those born beneath it are said to be blessed with dormant power."

I straightened. "Power?"

He nodded. "Something locked deep within them. Something that-if awakened could be... formidable. The kind of power that our ancestors had... Lycan magic of old that has disappeared since a long time ago."

I was quiet for a moment, processing that.

"You think Erika has this?" I asked him.

"I don't think," Corvin corrected. "I know."

The way he said it left no room for doubt.

I shifted slightly. "And you want to use it."

Corvin smiled, though there was no warmth in it. "Wouldn't you?"

I didn't answer.

This was why Corvin had insisted on training her. It wasn't just about making her a capable warrior-it was about unlocking something. Something that could be useful to him.

To the pack.

I didn't know what to think of it.

But I knew one thing-Erika wasn't just a trainee. She wasn't just another fighter in the ranks.

She was something more.

And if Corvin wanted to use her, that meant she needed to be protected.

I might not have been able to change whatever fate Corvin had in mind for her. But I could make sure that when the time came, Erika wouldn't just be another pawn in the Alpha's hands.

She deserved better than that.

And I'd make sure she got it.

Even if I had to carve out a place for her myself.

"It will bring her no harm,' Alpha Corvin said. "She owns the power. She will be made aware of it when the time comes," he said.

"Okay," I replied, not knowing what else to say.

"Carlo Zea," the Alpha turned to me, cocking his brow. "Can you remind me where your loyalty lies?”
