Rebirth Of The Rejected Luna Chapter 74: Can't Break A Mate Bond
**Tiana’s POV**
"I will," I said with a small smile and then she left.
The door creaked open again only a few minutes later, and Fiona’s voice broke through my thoughts. “Still brooding?”
I turned to see her standing there, leaning against the frame, her arms crossed and a playful smirk on her lips.
“Not anymore,” I replied, though my voice lacked conviction. “What brings you back?"
"Nothing really, just bored out of my mind."
"Oh? Well join in and let us be bored together."
"Okay, of course... um, Tiana?"
"I'm not trying to blackmail you but do you know Theo is being forced on dates?"
"Oh?" I asked.
"His father is making him get to know several ladies because he believes Theo may not ever find a mate."
"I didn't know that... That's probably why he's been so busy lately."
"It is," Fiona said. "And it is stressing him out. By accepting Theo you are putting his father off his back and relieving his stress."
"His father would want a noblewoman."
"His father can't break a mate bond between the two of you. If he separates you, he is causing harm to his only son and the soon-to-be Alpha."
"Right?"
"Just think about that. You know I also have to look out for Theo."
"I understand," I smiled at her. I could not really blame her for trying to push my buttons. I had taken the man she loved away from her so she only wanted to see him happy and not moping around because of me.
"You look like you're thinking too much about it..."
"No, no," I said hastily. "But I’ve been thinking…”
“Dangerous habit,” she teased, laying back on the bed.
I couldn’t help but smile at her. For someone I once saw as an unapproachable figure, Fiona had a way of making me feel at ease. “No, seriously,” I said, sitting up straighter. “I was wondering about Amara. How is she doing? I mean, she’s due any day now.”
Fiona smiled. “She’s hanging in there, but I heard Peter say she’s been struggling with the weight of it all. Pregnancy isn’t easy, especially this late.”
I nodded, guilt tugging at me. “I should visit her. It feels wrong not to, especially now.”
“Well, why not now?” Fiona suggested. “I was thinking the same thing. Let’s go check on her.”
I blinked, caught off guard by how quickly she jumped on the idea. But then again, Fiona was always decisive. “Alright,” I agreed, standing up.
The two of us made our way to Amara’s chambers. The hallway felt quieter than usual, and I couldn’t shake the nagging thought that Theo might have mentioned me to Fiona. She hadn’t brought it up, but something about the way she looked at me earlier made me wonder.
When we reached Amara’s door, Fiona knocked lightly before pushing it open. Inside, Amara was leaning on a pile of pillows, with her hand on her protruding stomach and her face glowing despite the exhaustion etched in her features. Peter was seated beside her, massaging her feet.
“Tiana! Fiona!” Amara exclaimed, her face lighting up as she sighted us. “What a surprise. Come in!”
I smiled, stepping inside with Fiona close behind. “We wanted to check on you. How are you feeling?”
“Tired,” she admitted, “but it’s worth it. Peter’s been pampering me endlessly.”
Peter chuckled. “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”
Fiona rolled her eyes playfully. “You’re setting the bar pretty high for the rest of us, Peter.”
The room filled with laughter at his statement for a while.
Amara patted the space beside her, and I sat down carefully. “So,” she began, looking between Fiona and me. “Is this a new alliance I’m seeing? You two have been spending a lot of time together lately.”
Fiona smirked. “Well, let’s just say Tiana’s grown on me.”
I laughed. “I’ll take that as a compliment.”
Amara nodded approvingly. “Good. I think it’s wonderful. The more friends we have in this pack, the better.”
I was kind of glad she was being warm towards Fiona because the last time they spoke, Amara had been mad at Fiona on my behalf.
Then, without warning, Amara gasped, clutching her belly.
“Amara?” Peter’s voice was laced with panic as he leaned closer.
Her eyes widened, and she let out a sharp cry. “My water just broke!”
The room erupted into chaos. Fiona sprang to her feet, barking orders to the nearby guards. Peter helped Amara stand, his face pale but determined.
“Stay calm, Amara,” Fiona said firmly. “We’ll get you to the infirmary.”
I hovered nervously, unsure of what to do but desperate to help. As we hurried down the hall, Amara clung to Peter, her face contorted with pain.
When we reached the infirmary, the healers were already preparing for her arrival. They ushered us inside, and Peter stayed close by her side. Fiona and I stood near the doorway, our eyes glued to the scene unfolding before us.
“It’s a breech birth,” one of the healers announced, her tone calm but serious.
Peter’s face went pale. “What does that mean?”
“It means the baby isn’t in the ideal position for delivery,” the healer explained. “But we’ll do everything we can to ensure both mother and child are safe.”
Amara let out another scream, her grip on Peter’s hand tightening.
I felt my stomach twist as I watched, helpless and overwhelmed. Fiona placed a hand on my shoulder, grounding me.
“She’s strong,” Fiona whispered. “She’ll get through this.”
I nodded, hoping she was right. "I can't imagine how much pain she is feeling now."
"Neither can I," Fiona sighed. "Childbirth is scary," she whispered.
I moved closer to Amara and began to use a hand fan to cool her body a little bit.
"Oh, Goddess!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, forcing out a tough breath. "Peter oh no!"
"You'll be fine my only one," Peter mumbled, kissing her hand which she was squeezing.
