Tiana's POV

His hands were shaking so much that I noticed it right away. He was holding a small glass vial, and I could see his lips moving. It looked like he was talking to himself, but I couldn’t hear anything he said. I was about to say something when someone stepped out from the dark shadows behind him. A hand reached out and gently touched his shoulder. Theo jumped in surprise. His face showed how scared he really was.

Then everything changed again. It was like a flash of light, and suddenly I wasn’t there anymore. I was at a dinner table.

Now Theo was sitting right next to me. We were at the coronation ceremony. People were gathered around, and there was music playing softly in the background.

But just as quickly, it all disappeared. The scene faded away like smoke.

My knees felt weak, and I started to slide off my horse. I almost hit the ground, but Cecilia was right there. She reached out, grabbed my arm, and stopped me from falling.

“You saw something,” she said. Her voice was low and somewhat of a whisper as she stared at me with furrowed eyebrows. "Didn't you?" She asked after a bit of silence.

I nodded slowly, still feeling odd from the sudden flash of memories in my head. “Yes… I think I saw something that belonged to Theo. They didn’t feel like my memories. They felt like his. And then the coronation ceremony... I saw it but then it stopped before I could see more.”

Cecilia didn’t look shocked at all. She just looked tired, like she already knew what was happening. “It’s the talisman,” she said like that explained everything.

After that moment, we didn’t move as fast. We slowed down because we were tired and the area seemed a little bit dangerous. We became more careful with every step. Soon, we came to a frozen stream. The water had turned into ice, but it didn’t look strong. It looked thin and fragile. Our horses stepped onto it, and the ice made loud cracking sounds under their hooves. I didn’t say anything out loud, but I silently asked the moon goddess to keep us safe and make sure the ice didn’t break. In the distance, I heard the sound of an owl. Then everything went quiet again.

Later that day, as the sun began to go down, we arrived at the bottom of a tall cliff. The rocks rose up high into the sky. It looked almost impossible to climb. But there was a small path hidden along the side of the cliff. You wouldn’t see it unless you were looking very closely.

At the top of the path stood an old black gate made of iron. Vines had grown all over it. The vines didn’t look normal. They moved just a little like they were alive.

Cecilia didn’t knock. She walked right up to the gate and placed her hand on the bars.

With a loud creaking sound, the gate slowly opened by itself.

“We’re almost there,” she said. But then she stopped walking and narrowed her eyes. “Wait. Something feels wrong.”

I turned to face her quickly. “What do you mean?”

She looked serious. “The talisman,” she said. “It’s acting strange. I think someone is trying to find it.”

My heart started beating faster. I felt nervous. “What should we do now?”

“We need to hide it,” she said firmly. She opened one of her saddle bags and took out a golden cloth. She whispered something softly, and I couldn’t understand the words. Then she took the talisman from me and wrapped it up carefully in the cloth.

“But why would someone try to track it now?” I asked. “It’s been months since anything happened.”

Cecilia looked at me with calm eyes. “Because someone felt a new connection to it. You saw Theo’s memories, didn’t you?”

I nodded. “Yes, I did.”

“No one has been connected to the talisman for a long time. But your soul is trying to find Theo again. You two belong together. You’re mates. You're holding it so if they used it to mess with his mind and your mind link with him as mate is still there..." She trailed off suggestively.

"We haven't mind linked in a long time," I said. "I think it's gone."

"It's not," she replied. "It's just dormant."

I stared at her, surprised. “Oh…”

She nodded again, slower this time. “The person who has the other half of the talisman must have felt that change. Now they know someone touched this piece. That means they can start tracking it again.”

“It has to be Roman,” I said softly.

She looked straight at me and said, “It has to be.”

After that, we didn’t talk for a long time. The silence between us was heavy. We kept riding through the forest.

After a while, I spoke up. “What’s the name of the person we’re going to see?”

“Aelius,” she replied.

The name echoed in my mind. It sounded familiar, like I’d heard it somewhere before.

“And he’s really that powerful?” I asked.

Cecilia nodded. “Yes. He’s the reason there are memory laws. He’s that strong—and that dangerous.”

I didn’t say anything after that. I just thought about what she said. Hours passed in silence.

When we finally got close to the Vale, the sun was almost gone. The sky was darkening quickly. A thick fog began to spread along the ground. The trees looked like they were full of shadows that moved when you weren’t looking.

I shivered a little. “It feels like something is watching us.”

“That’s because something is,” Cecilia said in a quiet voice.

She touched the pendant around her neck and whispered a few words. A soft light came out of the pendant and spread around us in a glowing circle.

“What did you just do?” I asked.

“It’s a warning spell,” she said. “It tells the Vale we’re not here to be hunted.”

Our horses walked slowly through the trees. The path felt wrong like the forest didn’t want us there. The trees bent in strange ways, almost like they were trying to block us.

Far away, a wolf howled. I tensed up and held my breath. It was definitely a rogue wolf.

“If anything shows itself,” Cecilia said, “don’t run.”
