Cecilia hesitated. “A wolf born outside of any pack. No allegiance. No bonds. He was… different. His aura was suffocating, his presence unnatural. He had no scent, no heartbeat that I could hear, yet I knew he was alive. And his eyes…” She trailed off, her voice quieter now. “They were not the eyes of a wolf.”

I swallowed. “What happened?”

She let out a slow breath. “I don’t know. He disappeared. Some say he died. Some say he’s still out there. He's from my generation."

I shivered. “And if he’s still alive?”

Cecilia’s lips curved into something too knowing to be reassuring. “Then we should pray the gods have not yet turned their gaze back to him.”

I let out a breath I hadn’t realized I was holding. My head was spinning, my mind a tangled mess of history and horror.

“So… what do we do?” I asked quietly. “If the First Blood are trying to return, if they’re already here in some form… what happens next?”

Cecilia poked the fire, watching the embers shift. “That depends,” she said. “On who finds them first.”

I frowned. “What do you mean?”

“There are those who would seek to destroy them before they grow too strong. And there are those who would rather serve them.”

I stiffened. “Serve them?”

Cecilia nodded. “There are wolves who believe the gods made a mistake. That the First Blood were never meant to be tamed. That we were never meant to be weakened.”

I felt sick. “So they want them back?”

“Not just back,” she murmured. “They want them to rule.”

A heavy silence stretched between us.

I licked my lips. “Have they… succeeded?”

Cecilia didn’t answer right away. Then, after a long pause, she murmured, “Not yet.”

I stared at her. “But they’re trying.”

She nodded.

A strange tension settled in my chest. “So there’s a war coming.”

Cecilia’s expression didn’t change. “Perhaps,” she said. “Or perhaps, it has already begun.”

A heavy silence settled between us, the only sound the crackling embers of the dying fire.

I exhaled, forcing my voice to stay steady. “You said… some wolves carry more of the First Blood than others.” I met her gaze. “What does that mean?”

“It means there are those among us who are not as distant from the First Blood as we’d like to believe.”

I frowned. “You mean stronger wolves? Like Alphas?”

She let out a quiet breath, almost like a laugh. “Strength is one thing, but no… I speak of something much rarer. A bloodline that was never truly tamed. A bloodline that still carries what we once were.”

A prickle of unease crawled up my spine. “What are you saying?”

Cecilia didn’t answer immediately. She shifted slightly, her eyes locked onto mine. “I’m saying that Corvin is one of them.”

My breath caught. “What?”

She nodded once, her gaze unwavering. “Corvin is a direct descendant of the First Blood.”

A shiver rolled through me. I had suspected Corvin was different—everyone did. He was stronger, faster, and more brutal than any Lycan we had ever known. But a descendant of the First Blood? That was something else entirely.

I forced myself to swallow, my voice barely above a whisper. “You’re sure?”

Cecilia’s eyes darkened. “I have seen enough to know.”

I shook my head, trying to piece it together. “But… how? I thought the First Bloods were wiped out. I thought the gods made sure of it.”

“They tried,” Cecilia murmured. “But blood has a way of surviving.”

I frowned. “So what, his ancestors just… hid? Stayed out of sight for centuries?”

“Perhaps,” she said. “Or perhaps the blood simply faded over time, lying dormant in certain lineages until something—someone—brought it back to the surface.”

I stared at her. “And Corvin is that someone?”

Cecilia nodded slowly. “Yes.”

“But… he’s a Lycan.”

She tilted her head slightly. “Yes. But Lycans themselves were not meant to exist, not truly. They are not wolves like you, nor are they entirely something else. I told you."

I nodded slowly, "They were born from the remnants of the First Blood, shaped into something that could still hold a fraction of that ancient power. They were supposed to be the final evolution—stronger than werewolves, but not as uncontrollable as the First.” I paused to take a breath. “Then what makes Corvin different?”

Cecilia studied me for a long moment before answering. “Because whatever remained of the First Blood in his line, it never truly weakened.”

“Are you saying Corvin is… like them?” I asked, swallowing hard.

“Not entirely,” she admitted. “But close enough.”

“That doesn’t make sense. If he was anything like the First Blood, he wouldn’t be able to control himself. He’d be—”

“A monster?” Cecilia finished for me, arching a brow.

I hesitated. “Yes.”

“And yet, he is not.”

I frowned. “So what does that mean?”

She exhaled, leaning forward slightly. “It means he is different. He has more control than the First Blood, but he is not bound by the same limits as ordinary werewolves because he's a Lycan."

"Oh?"

"He will try to rule over as many packs..."

“And you think that’s why he’s trying to take over so many packs? Because he knows he's a direct descendant?"

“I do not know his full plan, but I know this—he will go to any length to achieve it.”

I shuddered. “Why? What does he want?”

Cecilia sighed. “Power, for one. But I suspect it is more than that.”

I clenched my fists. “More how?”

She was silent for a moment. “The First Blood were not meant to return, Tiana. Their time ended for a reason. If Corvin is seeking to unite the packs, it is not simply to rule.”

A cold and uncomfortable feeling settled in my stomach. “Then what?”

Cecilia’s expression was unreadable. “Perhaps he wishes to restore what was lost.”

I inhaled sharply. “You mean… the First Blood?”

But if he restored them... Could it be that his purpose was to find a way to make them do as he says? So he could be a god?
