Rebirth Of The Rejected Luna Chapter 226: Peter And Theo

Tiana's POV

She lay back down and started humming, something eerily familiar. A lullaby my mother used to sing before she died.

The hairs on my arms rose. Had she known my mother? It was impossible. My mother had never left the Moonstone pack, and she had died there as well.

It's just a lullaby, my wolf whispered to me but I ignored it, leaving the infirmary in a daze.

Back in my quarters, I locked the door and sat at my desk, the pendant between my fingers. Theo had been in that kitchen the night I died. He had dropped a talisman likely tied to Corvin or Alpha Roman. And now he was trapped in his own soul.

Someone had done this to him. And if he was being used... What was he being used for now? I stared into the pendant's gem, watching the way it shimmered even in shadow. Was he a weapon? A ticking bomb? Would he be the one to kill me again?

I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Theo's situation was more complicated than I had initially thought. I needed to find out more about what had happened to him and who was behind it.

Training was exhausting as usual but better than before. The soldiers now respected me more than before and had come to the realization that I was worthy enough in skill and thinking. As I sat there, lost in thought, I suddenly remembered a conversation I had with Peter earlier. I had been thinking about him, and now I saw him across the practice field. His shirt was clinging to him with sweat, and his skin gleamed bronze under the late afternoon sun.

He was laughing with one of the guards, his posture relaxed. I almost turned back, but something kept me there. I waited until he was alone, wrapping his hands with linen before I stepped forward.

“We need to talk.”

He blinked and tilted his head at me, a smile still lingering. “About what?”

“Privately.”

He straightened, eyes narrowing slightly before he nodded once. We walked in silence, cutting through the barracks, past the kennels, and into the corridor that led toward the lesser-used side halls of the palace. He opened the door to one of the unused storage rooms and let me step inside first. It smelled like aged wood and dust.

“Talk,” he said, leaning against the door.

I crossed my arms and looked him square in the eye. “I heard that Alpha Theo has gone mad.”

His reaction was smooth, almost too smooth—brows rising in mock surprise. “Mad? What are you talking about? You saw him the other day—he’s perfectly fine.”

I stepped forward. “How about the nights he screams in his sleep?”

Peter’s face didn’t change, but his body stilled.

“Or the days he disappears from public view because he’s hallucinating things no one else can see? Or the moments he lashes out—"

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said, too quickly. “You shouldn’t be saying that, Talia. Not to me. Not to anyone. That’s an insult against the royal family.”

“So it’s true.”

He snapped, “It’s not.”

I stared at him down. “You’re lying.”

“I’m protecting the only person in this palace who doesn’t deserve to be torn apart by court whispers. Theo is our soon-to-be Alpha.”

“And if he’s losing his mind?”

“Then it’s no one’s damn business.”

“You really think that?”

“I think you should shut up about it before someone hears you and decides you’re a threat.”

We stared at each other for a long time, silently but he didn’t say another word. He just turned and left without looking back.

The thought wouldn’t leave me alone. It kept bothering me. By evening, I had made up my mind. I dressed in dark clothes and tied back my hair. I slipped out of my quarters into the royal quarters.

The corridors were quiet now. A few servants were bustling in the distance, but no one noticed me. I walked like I belonged there. That was the trick. As I moved, my mind spun. If Theo was truly losing his mind… Did it mean the sorcery they used on him had gone wrong?

What if it was never supposed to work like this? What if the madness wasn’t a side effect… but the result? And if it had gone wrong… what about Elara and Layla? Were they experiencing the same thing? Was it affecting all of them?

I thought about this for a while. The scullery maid hadn't said anything about them. But what if they were just better at hiding it? Did they even know what was happening to him? Or did Peter only know because he was the Beta?

I walked quietly, trying not to make any noise. I didn’t want anyone to see me. I was trying to figure out what was going on. Was Theo the only one affected, or were there others?

And if they did… were they ignoring it? Covering it up?

The more I thought about it, the more uneasy I became. Something was not right. I could feel it and I was determined to find out what it was.

The royal wing was guarded, but I knew enough about the patrols—when the guards rotated, which halls were checked less frequently, how the main doors to the royal quarters weren’t always locked if the physician was called in. I had lived here before so I knew everything about it.

When I reached the corner leading to the Alpha’s wing, I pressed myself into a column on the wall and observed. The corridor was dim, and relatively quiet except for the hurried footsteps I heard moments later.

The royal physician appeared, gripping Theo by the arm.

Alpha Theo wasn’t walking. He was stumbling. His lips were moving rapidly—muttering something I couldn’t hear. His eyes were wide, and glassy, like they were looking through the walls. His head jerked suddenly to the side as though he heard something no one else could. Then suddenly he screamed. "Tiana, I'm sorry."

I froze.
