**Theo's POV**

I nodded, feeling a pang of guilt. "I'm sorry, Fiona. I never wanted to hurt you."

She turned away, her shoulders shaking. "I know, Theo. It's just... I thought maybe, somehow, you would see me differently. I mean after all these years of friendship and all...*

I stepped closer, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I do see you, Fiona. You're important to me. But not in the way you want. You are like my sister... Like my blood, I..."

"Your heart... You... It's Tiana... Right?" She asked with a sniff.

"Even if Tiana wasn't here, it wouldn't make a difference, Fiona," I sighed. "Plus she and I aren't mates or anything. I just don't see you in that light."

She shrugged off my hand, wiping away a tear. "Then why did you come here? If my feelings for you aren't mutual, why?" She demanded, her voice rising an ouch higher. "Why did you tell the guard to leave when I gave instructions not to be disturbed? Why didn't you just walk away?"

"Because I care about you," I said softly. "And I can't stand seeing you like this. You're my best friend, Fiona. That means something to me."

"You should have walked away," Fiona said, swallowing hard. "You shouldn't have come here to see me."

"Like I said, I care about you so best believe I'll show up every single time I am worried about you."

She huffed and then turned to face me, her eyes filled with a mixture of sadness and frustration. "Then what am I supposed to do, Theo? Just pretend I don't feel anything? Go on like before, like I did not just randomly kiss you, confess my feelings and then get rejected?"

"I don't know," I admitted, feeling helpless. "But I don't want to lose you as a friend. Can we work through this?" I asked with a sigh.

She looked down her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know if I can. Theo, this is..."

"Then let us at least try?" I asked. "Act like none of it ever happened? Like things had always remained the same."

"Nothing has been the same since she came here."

"This is not about Tiana," I sighed. "So let's just go back to how we were. Like we were even when Tiana came. Before all of this."

"You abandoned me when she came," Fiona said.

"I didn't... I..." I trailed off, not knowing what else to say.

We stood there in silence for a very long time. Finally, she spoke. "You should go. I need some time to think."

"Fiona," I said, taking a step closer to her.

"I'm serious. I need you to leave."

I nodded slowly, understanding her need for space. "Alright. But please know, I'm here if you need me."

She gave a slight nod, not looking up. "Now please go."

With a heavy heart, I turned and left her room.

As I walked through the dimly lit corridors, I tried to process everything that had happened. Fiona’s confession had turned my world upside down, and I felt stuck, unsure of how to move forward without hurting her more. Lost in my thoughts, I nearly collided with Peter in the hallway. He looked up, concern etched on his face.

"Where are you coming from?" He questioned, assessing my pensive mood.

"Fiona's chambers."

Peter whistled and then grimaced. "How is Fiona feeling? How did it go?"

I sighed, rubbing my temples. "It was rough, Peter. She said she was serious about having feelings for me. I told her I only see her as a friend, but she’s not sure if she can continue the friendship because of her romantic interest in me."

Peter nodded thoughtfully, his brow furrowing. "That’s tough. But it’s good that you were honest with her."

"I feel so confused and stuck," I admitted. "I don’t want Fiona to hate Tiana because my heart is swaying in Tiana’s direction. And she already does."

Peter clapped a reassuring hand on my shoulder. " Theo. She will come around eventually. She’ll get over it. You just have to give her time."

"I hope so," I said, yawning. I was already tired.

"All you can do now is pray to the moon goddess," Peter continued. "Pray that she will grant Fiona a mate who will love her and whom she will love in return. That’s the best outcome for everyone. Then when that happens, she'll forget about all this or maybe the two of you will share a laugh about it. "

I nodded, "You’re right. I’ll pray for that."

Peter smiled, giving my shoulder a final pat. "Get some rest, Theo. You’ve had a long day."

"Thanks, Peter. I will." I waved goodbye to him and made my way to my chambers.

As I lay in bed, I found it hard to sleep. My thoughts kept drifting back to Fiona and Tiana. I prayed silently to the moon goddess like Peter had suggested. I prayed for Fiona to find her true mate and also for the goddess to make Tiana my mate. Eventually, exhaustion took over, and I drifted into a restless sleep.

The next morning, I was jolted awake by a knock on the door. I groggily got out of bed and opened it to find a guard standing there, looking anxious.

"Your father requests your presence immediately, Prince Theo," he said urgently.

I nodded, watching as he walked out. The maids came in shortly and assisted with drawing a bath, taking care of my hair and getting clothes ready.

As I made my way to my father’s chambers, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of foreboding. My father rarely called me so early in the morning unless it was something important. I could only hope there was exciting news to be shared. When I reached his chambers, I found Peter already there, standing at attention.

My father’s stern gaze fell on me as I entered. "You’re late, Theo. This matter is urgent."

"I'm sorry, Father," I said, bowing my head slightly. "What’s the matter?"

He held up a letter. My heart skipped a beat as I froze in place. The seal was from Corvin Soren.
