Rebirth Of The Rejected Luna Chapter 46: Confronting Fiona’s Feelings.
**Theo's POV**
The rest of the dinner passed in a blur. Amara and Layla filled him in on random things that happened while he was gone. I zoned out, my mind was a place filled with chaotic thoughts. I found myself drawn to Fiona's gaze, severally. She was quieter than usual.
Normally, she and my father engaged in playful banter but today there was none. It was just Layla and Amara doing the talking. I could not help but notice that she barely ate anything as well. And simply pushed her cutlery around her plate and sighed continually.
"Fiona, are you alright?" My father asked after a while. I'm sure he noticed Fiona was not her usual self.
"Of course Alpha," She said with a smile that seemed more like a grimace. "I just feel a little bit sick. I may have to excuse myself earlier than usual."
"Oh my," my father gasped. "Feel free. I'll have the physician come in to check on you."
"That will not be necessary," she said with a gentle smile. She took a bite from her food and wiped her mouth with a napkin and stood up. "I shall see you all later."
"Are you sure you do not want the maids to take some food up for you?" I asked, quite worried. "You have barely eaten anything."
"I am quite alright Theo," she said. I could swear I heard her voice crack. She walked out of the dining room, leaving all of us staring at each other.
"I feel worried for her," Amara mumbled, which I found strange because there had been a lot of tension going on between the two of them as of late.
"I will check on her after dinner," I said.
"You should," Peter said pointedly. He was the only one other than myself and Tiana who could understand the reason for her mood.
I glanced at Tiana who had her eyes focused on her food but I could tell that her eyes were a tad bit sad. I could tell that she felt sorry for Fiona and there seemed to be a subtle hint of guilt in her eyes.
When the meal finally ended, I stood and made my way to Tiana.
"You did well," I told her, "My father seemed to like you."
"Thank you," she replied, her smile faint. "Did he though?" She asked. "He is quite hard to read."
"Trust me, he did." I grinned and held her shoulders. "What are you doing after dinner?"
"Have a long bath and go to sleep," she replied while trying to stifle a yawn.
"Too bad," I sighed. "I'd have loved to go for a walk with you."
"You should check on Fiona," Tiana said, turning to face me— and removing my hands from around her shoulder. "She did not seem too well this evening."
"Well, I—"
"You should not postpone it," she sighed. "Sooner or later you'll have to confront the situation. And she doesn't seem well...you're her best friend. She needs you."
"I'm the one who hurt her... I—"
"Not going to talk to her will hurt her more," Tiana said, swallowing hard. It seemed to me that she seemed hurt as well and I was confused on why. Was she hurt on Fiona's behalf?
"Plus you already told your father and everyone else at dinner you would check on her later," she said. "Later can be now."
"Right," I mumbled, running a hand through my hair. "Well... Goodnight?"
"Goodnight Theo," Sha smiled and turned away.
I took in a deep breath and started up the stairs, then walked down a narrow corridor that led to Fiona's chambers. I took in another breath as I got to the door. There was a guard standing there.
"Lady Fiona would like to not be disturbed," he said with a bow.
I raised my eyebrows at him. He did have some nerve because he definitely knew who he was talking to. Apparently, all the guards and servants seemed to be more afraid of Fiona than they were of me.
"You are aware of who you speak to, are you not?" I asked.
"I am well aware Your Majesty," he replied. "But the lady requested no visitors even if it were the Alpha."
"Move out of the way," I commanded in a cold voice. The guard hesitated and moved away.
I knocked on the door tentatively and there was no answer the first time. "Fiona," I called out, knocking again. There was still no answer but I could hear shuffling about and soon enough the door opened.
She ignored my presence and turned to the guard whose face had turned white. "What did I tell you about visitors?" She snapped.
"My lady, I—" he began to stammer, looking between both of us.
"There's no need for the drama Fiona," I said, gently pushing her into the room. I shut the door behind us quietly.
She huffed and turned, walking towards the queen-sized bed in the centre of the room that was strewn with clothes all over.
"Fiona," I began, unsure how to address the tension between us.
She stopped and looked at me, her eyes filled with a mixture of pain, fear and uncertainty. "Theo."
Her voice was shaky which was a sharp contrast to the tone she had used on the guard earlier. We stared at each other, none of us knowing what to say. Especially me.
I was looking at my best friend as a different version of herself. The air of confidence and boldness she usually had was completely gone. "Fiona, I—"
She walked towards me and placed a finger on my lips to silence me. "Theo, I...I know I surprised you earlier. But I meant what I said. I’ve loved you for a long time. I was waiting for you to see it or maybe show signs like I was trying to... I dropped hints several times but you were blind to them."
I sighed, struggling to find the right words. "Fiona, you’re my best friend. I care about you deeply, but..."
"But you don't feel the same way," she finished for me, her voice breaking slightly.
