Rebirth Of The Rejected Luna Chapter 221: No Evidence To Prove Her Innocence
Tiana's POV
Kept her body...
We didn't say anything for a while. The silence between us felt heavy and uncomfortable. It was like a thick fog that we didn't want to go into. The candle on the table was flickering, which made the shadows on the walls move around. I looked at Peter's hands. He was tapping his fingers on the table. It was a slow and steady beat. I could tell he was a little nervous.
I leaned back in my chair and took a deep breath. My mind started thinking about something that had been bothering me. It was something that had happened on the night when everything went wrong. I had a question that I couldn't stop thinking about. I wanted to ask Peter about it. So I said, "Peter, I've been thinking about the poison."
Peter's fingers stopped tapping on the table. He looked at me. His eyes got a little smaller. He seemed curious. He said, "What about it?"
I tilted my head, studying his reaction. “Was it ever investigated?”
Peter's face changed. He looked upset. His jaw got tight, and he didn't say anything for a long time. I started to wonder if I had made a mistake, but I didn't back down. Finally, Peter sighed and rubbed his hand over his face. "We all thought about it," he said. "But it didn't make sense." I leaned forward, putting my elbows on the table. "If Tiana had put poison in the drink, she would have found a way to get rid of it without drinking it herself. She wasn't careless."
Peter looked at me carefully, and I couldn't tell what he was thinking. We sat there in silence for a long time before he finally spoke. "You don't think she did it," he said. I looked right back at him, not backing down. "I just think it doesn't make sense." For a moment, I saw something in Peter's face that I couldn't quite figure out. Was it a doubt? Was he uncomfortable? Or did he maybe even agree with me a little bit?
Peter leaned forward a little, and his voice got softer. This made my skin feel tingle uncomfortably. "Talia..." he said.
"What?" I asked him, looking right into his eyes.
Peter let out a big breath and shook his head. "You always have to keep digging, don't you?"
A smirk tugged at the corner of my lips, though there was no humor in it. “You should know that by now.”
His lips pressed into a thin line, but he didn’t argue. Instead, he looked away, staring at the flickering candle on the table as if it held answers neither of us had.
The wheels were turning in his mind, just as they were in mine.
And if I was right… Then there was more to Tiana’s death. There was more to my death than I ever knew.
Peter hesitated before speaking again. “Theo ordered an investigation, but no one found any proof that she was innocent.” His voice was low, almost reluctant. “The poison was in the king's cup. She drank it. The conclusion was obvious.”
“But someone could have—”
Peter cut me off, his voice sharper now. “I know. And Theo knew too.”
I stilled. “What are you saying?”
His eyes flickered to the door as if checking for eavesdroppers. He lowered his voice. “Theo didn’t want to admit it openly, but he was never fully convinced Tiana poisoned the drink.” He hesitated before adding, “He just… he had no way to prove otherwise.”
A chill ran through me, settling deep in my bones. “Did he have any suspicions?”
Peter hesitated again, the pause thick with unspoken words. Then, finally, he nodded. “Layla and Elara.”
I blinked, taken aback. “Why them?”
“They were the only ones who had access to the drinks before they were served,” he explained. “They both went to see if the maids were doing everything right so the night would be perfect. And they were the ones who put the accusation forward. But of course, they are royalty. They can't be questioned."
My blood ran cold. Layla. Elara.
Peter continued, his voice grim. “Elara swore she didn’t touch the cups and she had no reason to poison the king. Layla… she was strangely defensive when questioned.” He frowned, his brows pulling together like he was replaying the memory in his head. “Theo confronted her about it, but she deflected. Said if she really wanted Tiana dead, she would have chosen a different method. And that she doesn't even remember much from that night. Said her memory was foggy because so much happened. She lost Amara... Yeah."
I wanted to scoff. The same Layla who began to hate Amara because she felt like Amara no longer had her time but was always with her baby.
I tightened my fists, my nails pressing into my palms. "So Theo just forgot about it?" I asked.
Peter spoke quietly, "No, he never forgot. But without proof, what could he do?" I nodded, trying to stay calm while my mind was racing.
Theo suspected Layla and Elara. If they were the ones who poisoned the king's drink and made it look like I did it, and then made me drink it, then this wasn't over yet. Peter sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. "I don't know why you're so curious about this, but whatever you're thinking, be careful."
I forced a small smile, even though my heart was beating fast. "I'm always careful." Peter laughed and shook his head. "That's the biggest lie I've heard all day."
I let out a soft laugh, but inside, I was already thinking of a plan. Layla and Elara thought they had gotten away with it, but they were wrong. I was going to find out the truth, and I was going to make them pay.
Then another thought crossed my mind... Viktor...he had been so adamant about me drinking it as well, to prove my innocence.
Was there a possibility my brother had orchestrated it with them?
